This was probably checked, but did Morris double check for Ice Warriors 2 syndrome? Perhaps Episode 3 is the Episode 1 can? I highly doubt Phil Morris would be silly enough NOT to check that, but I'm curious to know if this WAS checked. I suspect that considering the work it likely took to get here, they're going to check and double check everything they come across. Not just for Who, but anything else of interest. I won't be a situation of 'look for Who, grab what is apparently Who and go'...

There were previews showing Anekke Wills against an animated 'Moon' background for The Moonbase documentary. Safe to say 1 & 3 are being animated. They've come this far and Web is coming out serval months after Enemy. I think it's quite clear what's going to happen... Are you saying there's more then 9 Episodes that where found ? and more are on the way ? No... I'm clearly saying that I expect Web 3 to be animated...

What do you think the chances are of the BBC animating WOF episode 3 for DVD release? I just bought it on itunes, but if they animated the missing one, I most certainly would buy it again. Future animations are up in the air after Moonbase (though a DVD for Underwater Menace has been hinted). I suspect it will happen but we won't see it until late next year at the earliest. This could be an isolated case, but no doubt this occurrence will influence how episode hunters think. I'm sure the phrase no stone left unturned is a good one.

I see what happened now... someone said 9, was overheard as 90... But then it was 11 episodes mentioned earlier, of which 9 were missing. Soooooooo... I heard 17 a few weeks back... The source tied up with Enemy and Web, with one of Web being iffy being mooted back then. The other 7 were Marco. Only one way we'll find out...

Dare I say I'm slightly more looking forward to knowing where the prints came from, rather than seeing them...! Not sure if that's a good sign or not, haha. Obviously want both, and thankfully will get both hopefully in the not too distant future!

Most episodes were recorded and broadcast from 2" Quad tape. These were the master tapes that were wiped. No 60's Who is known to survive on this format, episodes or clips. It's highly unlikely anything survived as all episodes have a wipe date, so we know that hey were wiped. Mind you, things have unexpectedly been found on Quad before, such as most of an episode of Out of the Unknown - 'The Little Black Bag'. But as I say, I don't expect this to be the case. What will most likely have been found are film copies which were sold overseas, which are a generation down from Quad - i.e. poorer quality. So all missing episodes were actually wiped and we're just hoping to find foreign less quality versions. That makes sense. So if an original did turn up then would that give hope to more being found? The Little Black Bag shows it's possible, but the odds are frankly incalculable.

Outpost Skaro article claiming some of material is probably of better quality than that was seen on first broadcast...? 'Some of what is available, I can tell you that the quality is surprisingly good – and possibly better than actually would have been had at the time of broadcast, for the majority of people viewing at home considering the quality of receiver available.' Something knocking around on Quad? That'd be a turn up, heh. Realistically though, wonder what he means... I've seen Quad mentioned before? It's some sort of recording format? And the facts that it's never been quite like this before... The last couple of episodes were announced, with one being shown at MBW that day. It's being made a bigger deal... probably because it is.
That and Frazer's tweet implied a 'story' will be revealed, rather than 'episode(s)'.

It is really very good news all round. I still don't understand why the mods, 1) locked threads, even when BBC News covered the news 2) denied that it was happening. were they no in the loop? You'll have to wait and find out. Take note though, nothing has been said since the BBC covered it. Whatever denials there were in the few days before the announcement, they were about really specific things. I think Paul denied 106 being reported by the Mirror - which quite clearly is not true. Clearly all those usually involved in this knew. Even DWM's editor admitted to knowing and to paraphrase him - that it 'hasn't been any fun'.

I expect DVDs will come. Remember, the idea of just the soundtracks with VAM was put about by Dan Hall.

So happy right now!! Fear I may wake up any moment now. I see the article says "Dozens of early episodes starring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton (pictured, left) are missing". 106 doesn't sound like dozens so is this how many are now left? I assumed the 'dozens' meant 106.

I give this thread another half hour before those 'in the know' who continue to suppress information, for no good reason, shut it down. Paul did say another thread could be opened if there was an announcement... If it's been allowed on BBC News, it's safe to say things aren't going to be so delicate anymore.
