Just finished first session. According to those on the film it seems that Philip Morris has brought hundreds/thousands of programmes back but nobody knows any details. Will take a long time to sort out/restore. Appears he was given an official letter of credentials by BBC and BFI - who are the archivists for ITV. Looking for anything/everything. I think that adequately explains the source of the omni-rumour. And the delay in announcing what has been recovered (Who and non-Who). As those of us with level heads who are happy to wait and see have said all along, it's going to take time to sort out what's there and what's in usable condition. Just chill - it will happen when things are ready. I think this also proves it's not some big conspiracy to hold stuff back and announce recovered Doctor Who in batches of 2 (the persistent "Marco Polo" and "The Massacre" are next to be announced as found and being released rumour for example). They'll simply be announced as things get confirmed and cleaned up accordingly. There may be more Who, then nothing for a while, simply because other TV cans get looked at first while the rest of the Who stuff (if any) is being looked at. Especially if the haul is being split between the BBC and BFI. That's 2 companies working at different speeds, potentially with announcements overlapping. One thing I THINK we can safely say is Web 3 is not amongst the haul unless it was recovered much later or has been mis-labelled. Doesn't make sense to make 5/6ths available knowing there are 1000s of cans still to check unless you're reasonably sure it's not in any of them. All speculation of course. Just my reading of the situation based on John's confirmation there is a haul containing no-one-knows-what! Perhaps that's why the dvd's delayed till February, to give them time to check?

The fact they're from Zambia is exciting, because as I recall it's one of the few countries to have bought all the Troughton episodes!!! According to Wiped, the first edition anyway, they were sent all but the following: Mission to the Unknown The Daleks' Master Plan The Tenth Planet The Power of the Daleks The Evil of the Daleks Fury from the Deep The Wheel in Space The Invasion. Anything else is possible now..... That must have been confusing - jumping from The Smugglers to The Highlanders Sod's law my most wanted returns (Power, Fury, Masterplan & MTTU) weren't sent there

Not sure that makes sense. If they've checked all the film cans to ensure WoF3 is absent, then that implies they must have ascertained the contents of all the cans!

Well, at least this should hopefully draw a line under the 'how heavy does a storage container weigh?' question that has been haunting this forum for the last few months

Web of Fear was recovered in Nigeria, this is a separate find. That's why some people have just said they think Web is taking so long, to give them time to search through the new find to see if Web is in there.
Restoration will take a while at any rate (as I've been saying pretty much non-stop for weeks now). At least we have a group of people who especially work on Doctor Who so if anything is in the haul it should get sorted out fairly quickly compared to everything else (could still be well over a year if we get a good haul, but I'm not complaining the longer the better).

If Phillip Morris has a list of what's missing he'd have a reasonably good idea of what's in the haul even if no one else does. He was quite clear about searching for it thoroughly but said he couldn't find it. Doesn't mean it hasn't turned up recently of course, and they are still searching as well.

Or indeed that the episode has turned up, but only in this haul (and indeed it may have been the "thorough search" that ultimately led to the discovery of this). Have any dates been given for recoveries?

Dick Fiddy of the BFI has confirmed that over 10,000 film cans have been returned from Zambia ykes! plus these are not 'cultural heritage' items, I guess this means that they are not films that TIE are restoring/stabalising for another broadcaster, but returned British programs As Christopher Eccleston used to say FANTASTIC Theres going to be some real gems in amongst that lot - and not just DW

I'd hope so, it would be a bit odd if they'd found 10,000 film copies of Doctor Who.

Superb news whatever missing material is found. Of course want some Who eps back, but so many gems from BBC and ITV are missing anything that can be restored will be fantastic.

The films were shipped from Zambia but some are possibly from other locations as well.
I would find it very hard to believe if it was announced that no more DW missing episodes were among the 10,000 films returned, mainly because if TV stations kept thousands of other programs, why not keep DW

Just checked the sales in WIPED, most of the 2nd doctor stories were sold to Zambia, but sadly not The Power of The Daleks, Evil of The Daleks, Fury From The Deep and The Invasion I| would not worry too much. not every missing who has come back via morris so there is still a chance for those stories.
