Part 1 initially intended to be colourised. Babelcolour & co couldn't commit so it will almost certainly be in b&w - especially as no mention is made of it being colour ...but I suppose they could have utilised the same chaps who did the Name of the Doctor b&w clip colourising Where on earth has that come from?

The Omnirumor has not been fun for me. It's left me absolutely miserable. At first it was exciting and fun, after all most "rumors" and "ideas" are exciting to flesh out on the community pages. However, this has devolved into a series of illogical facts, hidden secrets, unverifiable sources, and disrespectful accusations across four or five forums.
I am of the ilk that believes "I'll believe it when I see it", but what I do see is a community inflicting pain on itself. And it's taken all the fun of film collecting and restoration away from me.

Oh yeah, I had heard the whole Babelcolour colourizing episode 1 thing and dismissed it as being all based off his lovely work on the cliffhanger.

I thought Babelcolour has refussed to colourize any more episodes? I know Ian Levine mentioned he wanted him to colourize Invasion of the Dino's episode 1 and he said he would not do it. Would make no since to me to colourize an episode that is not supposed to be and leave just one that is in need of a redo?

Actually,I was only querying the use of the term "restored format".

Agree with the majority of what you say there. It hasn't left me miserable or upset, but it certainly has been like a bad smell hanging around fandom for a while now. I suspect, like me, you are thoroughly bored of the whole thing and all of the weirdness that has come crawling out of the woodwork because of it. Roll on November and an end to all of this........

The only problem Greg is that I don't think we'll have any sort of closure or resolution by November.I get the horrible feeling we're going to be arguing into a vacuum for a long time to come, with further subterfuge to really crank up the rumour mill. The end of this particular rumour is still a long way off,if in fact there is an end in sight at all.

Ok ... so what happens should, by some miracle, ALL missing Dr Who episodes were found, either in Sierra Leone or elsewhere ... what would people have to talk about???

A good chunk of the missing 106 were never in Sierra Leone any way. However, under the wild theory that all episodes were returned then likely we would no longer need a Doctor Who forum on this site. Any missing material left for this show (Planet of the Giants, Trailers, etc) could probably fit under one thread in the General section.

Planet of the Giants can't really be classed as missing footage, just the same as the first solid draft of scripts can't be counted as "missing" scripts. Yes technically it's missing, but it wasn't broadcast in that format. The final product is what was broadcast in 1964 and it doesn't contain the "missing footage". Yes it's interesting to see the differences between the two versions, but it's not missing in the same way as "Evil", "Web", or "Macra" is. The production team cut the serial down, a creative decision, a version we "weren't meant to see". I'll bet that there is a lot of out-take and deleted scene footage from various programmes that has never and will never see the light of day but is in archives around the world. That doesn't bother me in the slightest. For the same reasons, I'm not bothered if the extra episode of Planet of Giants doesn't turn up!

It wasn't a first draft of scripts though; the four episodes were completed. Sydney Newman had it cut down after viewing what was going to be the transmission tapes. So in the case of Planet of Giants, it was a 4 part serial ready to go that was cut down afterwards... So yeah, it IS missing footage.

There's been all sorts of unpleasantness over this; and all of it unwarranted. If there really are missing episodes of Dr Who, and lots of other shows, located then irrespective of whatever anyone on a forum says about them it won't make a blind bit of difference. If there are difficulties, it'll have no impact. If they're being held back for a reason, the chat won't matter. At least the posts here tend to be mostly on the sane side! I used to love the GB missing episode thread, and whilst there remain a number of really decent people in there, there now seem to be an increasingly large number of twats in there. Hence me not really posting that often. Heck, if we get back 90+ missing Dr Whos I'll be over the moon, and be incredibly happy; but it's just not worth the hassle.

I think its best just to wait to see what happens in November, im sure if anything has been recovered it will be revealed then. There doesn't seem much point in holding off an announcement till after such a big an event as the 50th. One things for sure, if there haven't been any recoveries then some people are going to end up with egg on their faces
