* just a thought, Moderators maybe you can start a new stand alone Manfred Mann Chapter III thread? as it's beginning to deviate away from "Pop Scotch" '70 [/b] cheers William [/quote] New thread for Chapter Three now, William!

An episode breakdown of "Pop Scotch '70" would look like this (the 1970 series was only shown in the Grampian region)..... Show 1 - Grampian Friday 29th May 1970, 6:30-7:00pm Show 2 - Grampian Friday 6th June 1970, 6:30-7:00pm (Trader Horne, Matthews Southern Comfort, Cat Stevens) Show 3 - Grampian Friday 12th June 1970, 7:00-7:30pm (Taste, Blue Mink) Show 4 - Grampian Friday 19th June 1970, 6:30-7:00pm (Renaissance, Toe Fat) Show 5 - Grampian Friday 26th June 1970, 6:30-7:00pm (The Move, Manfred Mann Chapter III) Show 6 - Grampian Friday 3rd July 1970, 6:30-7:00pm Show 7 - Grampian Friday 10th July 1970, 6:30-7:00pm Show 8 - Grampian Friday 17th July 1970, 6:30-7:00pm Acts appearing on unknown 1970 editions - Deep Purple, John Mayall, Pentangle, Chicken Shack, Fotheringay and Alan Price, Canned Heat only a possibility. Given the acts involved, I'd expect these were live performances rather than mimed and I'd guess there was no audience. Edit: Should also add that this series would have gone out in black & white, Grampian didn't make the switch to colour until 1971. Show 1 UPDATE:
Grampian TV: Friday 29th May 1970: 6:30-7:00pm Chicken Shack, John Mayall, Duster Bennett
source: NME p.s. I intend going to the National Library of Scotland again soon to try and find out who were on the editions from the 3rd,10th and 17th July 1970.

i'd love to see pop scotch or any Grampian tv material before I was born in 1974 but it's a shame that they were all missing & everything went out live. I hope they'll show something Grampian-ish at MBW in Edinburgh.

I'm sure they'll show something with a Scottish connection Christian,
(maybe Francie & Josie) who were very funny by the way! or ( The One O'Clock Gang, or The White Heather Club )
But to me, It would be more exciting if they could find some obscure pop show (like Pop Scotch) to show a clip or even stills from.

If I had a magic DVD recorder that could pull in signals from the distant past for one day only, this 1970 series would be near the top of the list for rescuing at least one or two episodes from.

I agree Syd, I would have thought that Grampian TV would have tried to network the programme? if so, would they not have had to (film/copy) some of the episodes? but, as Christian say's, maybe the show was "Live"?

Hi folks Just come across this page. I have an audio tape of a couple of Pop Scotch shows which I taped by microphone from the TV when they were aired. They are the John Mayall / Duster Bennett show, which is complete, and a bit of the Taste show. The shows were recorded in front of a live audience at the Grampian TV studios at Queens Cross in Aberdeen and I'm pretty sure I was at the Taste show. I'm getting the John Mayall one digitised and hope to put it on YouTube soon. Pretty sure the host was Jack McLaughlin.
The shows created quite a stir in Aberdeen at the time - I remember we couldn't really believe that the mighty John Mayall had actually been in Aberdeen!
Cheers Bryan

Cheers Bryan Hi Bryan, This is fantastic news!I hope all goes well with you getting the audio tapes digitised and onto Youtube.I started this thread as I was looking through an old issue of the NME from 1970 and was delighted to see that there was actually a programme such as this featuring the likes of John Mayall,Taste,Deep Purple,The Move etc which was'nt based in London. It's brilliant to hear that you were actually in the audience! any more memories that you have would be greatly appreciated.I know it was a long time ago but do you happen to remember if any of the Aberdeen tabloids of the time had any articles about the show? I go to the National Library in Edinburgh every week to look through the likes of The Daily Record and Edinburgh Evening News from the 1970's, that's how I managed to get some of the info on this thread, but there are still some blanks to fill in maybe? I'm going back next week; I'll look through issues of the Aberdeen Evening Express from 1970 and see if there are any articles on the show? By the way,do you happen to know if "Pop Scotch" was broadcast on Grampian TV only? or do you think STV would have broadcast it? Sorry for so many questions I'm just delighted to hear such good news cheers William
