Dear William
Thank you for providing such great insights into your archive!
If you have time to check, I would be interested to know what has been published about The Doors in your magazines. As I don't have a listing of potential references, I can not narrow it down to specific magazines. I can only provide a timeline of when The Doors were active: earyl/mid 1966 to mid 1971, then Morrison died.
Thank you! Alfredo

Doors UPDATE number 1
Hi Alfredo,
Thanks for your question
I have checked every issue of the NME for 1967 and 1968 and there's not a lot about the Doors regarding being on either British or US/Foreign TV shows...
(but there are a few general interviews) let me know if you want me to upload them on this forum? at the moment I'll just let you know what they contain
Article 1) Is from the NME 2/9/67 This article is within the long established (America Calling) article section of the NME and is just an introduction about The Doors to a UK audience along with a similar intro about Jefferson Airplane, it is an interesting article, but no TV content mentioned.
Article 2) NME 27/4/68 again the (America Calling) section, it's about their 'Unknown Soldier' promo film being brutal and a lot of people not showing it, apart from some 'Underground' places where they perform.
Article 3) NME 13/7/68 small bit of info that The Doors would be on BBC 1's "How It Is" on Friday 19th July
Article 4) NME 20/7/68 the (America Calling) section again to say The Doors are now a big draw and can command $12,500 a night and how good a performer Jim Morrison is!
Article 4) NME 17/8/68 small article to say The Doors are arriving in London early September and they would be starring in the well known Granada-TV special
Article 5) NME 14/9/68 The Doors are featured in the very long running 'New to the Charts' featurette, this gives you an intro to the band as individuals
Article 5) NME 14/9/68 Report on their London debut gig along with Jefferson Airplane
Article 6) NME 21/9/68 "Elvis influenced Doors"-by Jim (Interview)
Article 7) NME 19/10/68 "You can't divorce sex from pop" says Doors Jim Morrison (interview)
Article 8) NME 2/11/68 ad to say Doors will be on Granada TV show on the 16th November
Can I just recommend a book called The Doors by Danny Sugerman it has a lot of very rare interviews from some quite obscure American publications (well worth the money)
cheers William

Article 3) NME 13/7/68 small bit of info that The Doors would be on BBC 1's "How It Is" on Friday 19th July Must have been on film, not in person. Seeing that the programme was directed by Tony Palmer, I can imagine that he would have been very keen to show "The Unknown Soldier" promo.

Dear William Thank you very much checking your magazines! Being a huge Doors fan, all articles interest me, even the smaller ones. Especially article 3 is very interesting! If I'd have to pick out a selection, this would be it: Article 3) NME 13/7/68 small bit of info that The Doors would be on BBC 1's "How It Is" on Friday 19th July Article 5) NME 14/9/68 Report on their London debut gig along with Jefferson Airplane Article 6) NME 21/9/68 "Elvis influenced Doors"-by Jim (Interview) Article 8) NME 2/11/68 ad to say Doors will be on Granada TV show on the 16th November I think you refer to "The Illustrated History" by Sugerman, right? Yes, this is a fine book with lots of articles and interviews he collected. Thank you so much William, this is great! By the way, I looked at every NME for 1969 and nothing to be seen re the Doors (TV wise) article 3) NME 13th July 1968 P.S. You were right it is The Illustrated History by Danny Sugerman Cheers William

Dear William
A big thank you for thos photos! I'm really puzzled by this "How it is" mention of The Doors. This is new information, I've never heard of this before. As the add is from July 13th and the show was on the 19th, this is very credible. I'll dig deeper into this!
Thank you again! Alfredo

Doors UPDATE number 3Hi Alfredo, According to this Doors website www.doorshistory.com/doors1968.html The Doors were in concert in Honolulu on the 20th July 1968...so it must have been a filmed insert in "How It Is" and it was probably 'The Unknown Soldier' as other forum members have previously mentioned. cheers William

Does the NME give a date for Fleetwood Mac’s performance of “Albatross” on “Dee Time”? The record company were apparently about to give up on it but the appearance on Simon Dee's show kick-started the single’s climb to the top of the charts. I’d guess it was either Saturday 30th November 1968 or 7th December 1968.

Fleetwood Mac 'Albatross'on Dee Time UPDATE number 1Thanks for the question Syd, First of all I tried looking at Lost shows and IMDB Lost Shows had plenty of info regarding guests on Dee Time in 1967 but next to nothing for the 1968 series IMDB had next to no info that I could see So, on to the NME search, I could'nt find anything about Fleetwood Mac on Dee Time in 1968 but I thought I'd let you see the following Dee Time info I did find: picture number 1 is from the NME 2/11/68 regarding Lulus' show possibly replacing Dee Time? picture number 2 is from the NME 9/11/68 (That Saturday's edition of Dee Time was being replaced by The British legion's Festival of Remembrance) picture number 3 is from the NME 23/11/68 about Dee Time switching to a new Monday evening spot finally, I came across an interview with the band from the NME 1/2/69... when they were in LA, the headline was Fleetwood waiting to celebrate their number 1. the interview says the Albatross film clip they made for Top of the pops was not made in Cornwall, but filmed on the roof of the CBS offices in London. The Cornwall trip had to be cancelled because Peter had the flu and a photograph of his face was put onto a film of the other four at CBS, interspersed with genuine sea shots. cheers William
