Wow! This is a very impressive piece of research... I can't wait for forthcoming updates to see how the story ends! They lived happily ever after...? Nah... I'm hoping for something like... "...so we managed to contact Mr X, and not only did he have all four episodes of The Macra Terror, but also episodes 1 & 4 of The Underwater Menace and all of Power of the Daleks, which he has kindly allowed the BBC to make copies of." Something along those lines! ;D

Amazing stuff of course, but I wonder how many readers take an audible intake of breath at the idea of Neil Lambess thinking "Oh God! Not the Macra Terror...I've already seen this one. Ho hum".
I wonder how many other people have ever seen an episode or two of it twice. Other than the schoolkids who didn't seem to pay much attention to what they were watching, and may not have seen it on first viewing...

The only ones that I can imagine getting to see it twice are the very few who move from one country to the other in time. I can't remember who it is, but someone on this board moved from UK to Singapore and got to see repeats of a lot of stuff.

I seem to recall someone having seen "The Power Of The Daleks" four times due to moving to and around Australia.

Something along those lines! ;D Funny, I was thinking about what exactly might be left in NZ to be found. I've come to the conclusion that - excluding the possibility of a salvage from a skip - we have little information on season five stories: Marco Polo (1 2) – NO – Sent to IranMarco Polo (3 4 5 6 7) – UNLIKELY – Likely junked when Harriett St film store closedThe Reign of Terror – NO – Junked by the NZBCThe Crusade – UNLIKELY – Likely junked when Harriett St film store closedGalaxy 4 – NO – Sent to Singapore Mission to the Unknown – NO – Never Purchased The Myth Makers – NO – Sent to Singapore The Daleks Master Plan – NO – Never Purchased The Massacre – NO – Sent to Singapore The Celestial Toymaker – NO – Sent to Singapore The Savages – NO – Sent to Singapore The Smugglers – NO – Sent to Singapore The Tenth Planet – NO – Sent to Singapore The Power of the Daleks – NO – Sent to Singapore The Highlanders – NO – Junked by the NZBCThe Underwater Menace – UNLIKELY – Likely junked when Harriett St film store closed The Moonbase – UNLIKELY – Likely junked when Harriett St film store closedThe Macra Terror – NO – Junked by the NZBC The Faceless Ones – NO – Returned to BBC London The Evil of the Daleks – NO – Junked by the NZBCThe Abominable Snowmen – POSSIBLE The Ice Warriors – POSSIBLE The Enemy of the World – POSSIBLE The Web of Fear – POSSIBLE Fury from the Deep – POSSIBLE The Wheel in Space – POSSIBLEThe Invasion – NO – Never Purchased The Space Pirates – NO – Never PurchasedOf course, that's only on the assumption due to lack of information. It's more likely they were junked or stored at Harriett street.

Records for the fourth season seem random to me.
The Smugglers to Power of the Daleks were sent to Singapore who aired them AFTER the era of the Second Doctor and three Pertwee stories.
Underwater Menace and Moonbase end up at Harriet Street
Highlanders and Evil of the Daleks are "destroyed" but with no date.
Faceless Ones is sent home.
and Macra Terror is "destroyed" but with the specific date of 27 June 1974.
These blocks certainly were broken up significantly.

Records for the fourth season seem random to me. These blocks certainly were broken up significantly. *All* films ended up in Harriett Street, so that in itself is not the final fate. In the case of TUM and Moonbase, we don't know that happened to them after that. Faceless Ones went "home" only because of its rejection. If it had been screened, it would probably be in the same fate unknown list as TUM and Moonbase. What we have is a block of stories of which the first and last are marked destroyed with no date, and one serial in the middle destroyed with a specified date, a matter of months ahead of a mass junking in late 1974 (from which The Lion was found) . Assuming Highlanders and Evil were destroyed around the same time as Macra, and had Faceless Ones aired, the season 4 Troughton list would probably look like this: The Highlanders – NO – DESTROYED 1974 The Underwater Menace – NO - DESTROYED 1974 The Moonbase – NO - DESTROYED 1974 The Macra Terror – NO – DESTROYED 1974 The Faceless Ones – NO – DESTROYED 1974 The Evil of the Daleks – NO – DESTROYED 1974 and any randomness disappears.

On the subject of migration and repeats, I saw "Space Pirates" twice because my family moved to Australia from the UK in late 1969. Ditto "Invasion" and "War Games". The ABC repeated all of its Troughton stories in various regions. I did say it was POSSIBLE for someone who migrated in 1968 to have seen "Evil Of The Daleks" four times, but human nature being what it is, they would probably have changed channels when the third repeat came on.

Faceless Ones went "home" only because of its rejection. If it had been screened, it would probably be in the same fate unknown list as TUM and Moonbase. Strange that The Crusade did not. Could we *assume* then that The Ice Warriors and Fury from the Deep may have similarly been sent home? Apart from the late sale by Gibraltar we were the last in the chain to screen season five stories. If the BBC thought Troughton wouldn't sell very well then the 'untouched' prints might as well be returned...?

This is a dumb question, but whats the probability that it wasn't 16mm and that they were actually watching the macra on the telly after school?
