Here we have an example of what doing a no-stone-left-unturned search is like. It's not easy and it takes lots of time and effort! Thank you, Dave!

This post is perfectly timed with the 50th anniversary of Macra Terror coming up in two weeks.

Really fascinating story. Good work, regardless of outcome!

Good work Dave. Your research serves as a good illustration of the complex route film prints may take from a broadcaster before being recovered. For example if - for arguments sake - the Macra reels had been discovered in a car boot sale say several years ago they would be the subject of much speculation as to their origin just like Masterplan 5 & 10, the full saga of which will never be known. After all there would be no point in you or anyone undertaking such detailed research if the films had turned up.

Reminds me of a short story by Howard Waldrop called "The Ugly Chickens". If you're motivated then the whole pursuit / investigation thing is interesting in itself even if you don't find anything in the end. I hope it is interesting. Obviously as someone who can only gain from what you're doing I'm going to want to encourage you as much as possible, but at the end of the day it's you that's doing the leg work so I hope you're enjoying it. All the best Richard Sir Richard, Anyone who knows Waldrop and can cite "The Ugly Chickens" in a message is truly a Gentleman and a Scholar! Now, can you figure out a way to slip a reference to "Heirs of the Perisphere" into a message here ? Tom

Which, IMO, it is, BTW :-) Richard

Thought I'd give this old thread a bump since its been a year since last activity and it happens to be one of my favorite rumors/theories out there. Dave hasn't been on the board for a while, so I don't think he could give any sort of update.
Macra Terror is one of my favorite stories from the Troughton era. Seeing a possible/probable film can from Australia certainly gives me hope that at least one episode may surface from some unknown collector some day. I do hope that further research will turn up any story from Seasons 3 or 4. They're such rarities that a recovery of anything would be amazing.
Those new to this story would probably find the read tantalizing and fascinating. I would like to repeat Dave's request though that you do not contact any of the people mentioned, but certainly contact him if you've any ideas that come to mind or information you'd like to share.
