I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not. I haven't seen a thread for it, but even after Ian Lavine's attempt to animate the incomplete Shada failed, he is now trying his hand with The Daleks' Master Plan. www.starburstmagazine.com/tv-news/3786-tv-news-doctor-who-daleks-master-planI don't know a lot about 2Entertain's decision to decline Lavine's animations, but one theory I have is that while Shada has no completed episode, to my knowledge, there is still some that they HAVE done, and so 2Entertain perhaps found it would be a little confusing to non Doctor Who fans when the episode shifts from live action to animation. With this, the chances of them considering this animation attempt seem more acceptable; there are 3 complete episodes in the BBC archive, for a serial with episodes very unlikely to have further recoveries, unless there's another Francis Watson or another BBC crate inside a church basement, but here, they're animating full episodes, and so the contrast will be the same as Reign of Terror and Invasion. I don't know where this will go, but I'm interested, and I hope something comes out of it rather than before. What do you guys think?

I absolutely hate that style of animation. I can see why the BBC passed on the offer.
Thing is if Levine was pissed that he's lost 25,000 on a project they were never going to take in the first place then it's his fault. If he used what he's done up until now to try and get a commission to produce an animation for a future project on the other hand then it would go down much better.
As one of the comments said, why bother asking for more money and animating more episodes if there's no guarantee it'll be used by proper channels? Get the deal in first otherwise they'll just be throwing more time and money away for nothing.
They may as well just release it on a channel on YouTube.

I think you'll find that the attempt to animate Shada succeeded. The attempt to get it released failed.
Let's not turn this into a Levine bashing thread, please.

I'm aware the animation succeeded, and I'm extremely happy for him and his team (?), don't get me wrong. I just find the apparent shock-and-disgust vibe/reaction I'm getting from that article to be a little bit over the top; if there was no contract drawn up at the start then there should be no amazement that they got rejected at the DVD stage.
And I never bash Ian Levine as a person; what the guy has done for missing episodes leaves every other fan in the dust.

To be honest, I don't think 2/e will buy his animations and release them. I'd like to have a chance to buy and see them for myself, but if its not available, it's not available.

I have a great idea that will complete the project and possibly give it greater animation, if Ian Levine puts it on Kickstarter sets his goal, then maybe, JUST maybe, we'll see the daleks' master plan on DVD! I'd definitely back it if he did it. Also, mr. levine should make an account on this forum. Good day.

Jack, if Ian tried to release the dvd himself, the bbc would likely sue him for any kickstarter funds and a whole lot more! The scripts/audio/characters remain bbc copyright.

@ jackw28 - Ian was a member of this forum once before and was banned after a discussion became particularly heated. It's not inconceivable that Ian could return to this forum, should he choose to take the steps necessary to allow this to happen.
All before my time, so I don't want to go into too much detail.

And I never bash Ian Levine as a person; what the guy has done for missing episodes leaves every other fan in the dust. Absolutely. Although, doing a good deed in one area doesn't automatically grant you immunity from criticism in others. But I have seen threads on other forums get really quite revolting, and I don't want that to happen here.

Thing is if Levine was pissed that he's lost 25,000 on a project they were never going to take in the first place then it's his fault. It should be remembered that this wasn't £25,000 out of Ian's own pocket. He secured money from quite a number of people to get the work on Shada done. I'd definitely back it if he did it. You'll need deep pockets then. I understand that £500 is the minimum investment that Ian will accept for this project. if Ian Levine puts it on Kickstarter sets his goal, then maybe, JUST maybe, we'll see the daleks' master plan on DVD! You're not the first person to suggest the use of Kickstarter as a way of finding the idea, but even if he does get it completed, I seriously doubt that you'll ever see if officially released on DVD.

I think every time an Ian Levine project/interview/opinion winds someone up, they should slowly count - not to ten - but should count each Dr. Who episode that would no longer exist had he not had the gumption and tenacity to fight through layers of red tape in order to stumble across the episodes that he did back in '78.
I'm far from the man's biggest fan, but without him - for starters - we would not have the first full Dalek story.

I'm not going to get involved in this Levine argument and sit on the fence for now.
I vaguely recall him saying he was going to animate 'Mission to the Unknown' - is this still the case?
