Well, that's interesting! A bit pricey for what's left, I reckon. But I'll buy it if it comes out as I can remember watching it at the time. I'm surprised that it hasn't appeared before now - but as extras on another Python-related DVD set! I wonder which company are behind it?

It's Network.(The info.'s underneath the holding '18' classification on the Amazon site).Maybe there'll be a booklet to make it a nicer set.The price could quite well come down before March, and Amazon pass that on to anyone who pre-orders. It's a shame that Network themselves don't do pre-orders. Mind you,it's always possible that this-or any of their other projected titles-could be delayed or cancelled.Despite that, thank heaven for Network.
As a p.s.They're releasing the complete 'Lovejoy' with no edits for music, for the first time.

Network? Ah, thanks. I only gave it a cursory glance! That's good anyway. I was fearing it might be a Boulevard job (who did the 1948 Show and DNAYS releases). About the same price as Our House (which is offering about the same amount of material) would be fair for this though, I reckon. At least we can be sure that Network will present the material in the best way possible.

I had the 'Our House' disk, and I think they just had to plonk the two surviving episodes on it. This one will take a bit more work, and as I said,I'd like some background information provided.Anyone know about the filmed scenes i.e. how long they are,if they've got sound?

Almost all of the material has been on the internets for ages (although it's just been deleted from one of the youtube python channels). I'd say there are 6 items to be included, with a total time of 2.5 hours. But it's likely to go wrong, because the masters or sources are in different places (what's at Terry Jones' place I don't know). When the BFI screened them years ago, they gave the impression they were using a download for episode 2 (I asked duck fiddy about it, but he didn't reply). I offered to advise network, but I doubt they'll take me up on that.

I think they'd do worse than to call it "The (in)Complete and Utter History of Britain", to avoid any confusion or disappointment from people expecting the entire series.

I'd say there are 6 items to be included, with a total time of 2.5 hours. Just out of interest, what are the six? I can only think of four (two t/rs of transmitted eps 1 and 2 plus two VT reels of longer early edits with extra material included) as well as the film inserts - presumably all with sound. Do they amount to all the filmed bits produced for the series though or just some?

Rob,I could picture a cartoon cover with a bill-poster sticking "In-" next to "Complete".To keep it Historical, they could have Hitler doing it....
Sorry to say I can see quite a bit of agro over this, with people feeling that they've been short-changed.Not feeling the quality so much as minding the length.

Do I read it correct that you're saying there's another episode existing in addition to the four? I don't think that's generally known about if true.

But there's some other footage that would be a highly relevant extra. The thing is, IF they read my email and decide to listen to my advice, it won't help if I already posted everything I could say on the internet. Another point I'd ask them: I never established if the BFI screened a downloaded copy of episode 2 or if they found the source behind it. The flyer seemed to suggest the former. Does anyone know?

I wasn't at the screening unfortunately to be able to say (I was at the MBW where the early edits were shown though). Where does the non-downloaded (presumably t/r?) version of that episode reside then? Not in an official archive, I guess.

They haven't given a running-time for this DVD,so things might be a bit fluid. I don't suppose anything can be read into the statement that they're going to include "all" the remaining episodes, rather than "both".

There are at least 3 episodes still in existance, or 4 depending on how you count, but 2 of them are on early home video. They'll probably use the BFI's optical transfers for those.
