This seems like an interesting collection of material. Well done you all for all your hard work ploughing through these lists and copying items of interest. If you did want to pass on any further info to me my e-mail is dick.fiddy@bfi.org.uk as someone mentioned above. If anyone hasn't received replies from me in the past I can only apologise. I do endeavour to reply to all the messages I'm sent (which run into the hundreds) but I guess some must fall thriough the net somehow. If you don't get an acknowledment of receipt feel free to badger me about it just to make sure the message did get through.

I didn't think you were being rude, but was put off by the lack of reply (though don't know if you actually receveid it). I didn't e-mail you again as I imagine you receive a lot of e-mails, so didn't want to pester. I'll e-mail you the links (main page and links to the material of interest) now. Good luck sifting through all the pages!

Rather than start a new thread and because Armchair Theatre has been discussed here, can anyone point me in the direction of a list of surviving/missing Armchair Theatre episodes? I can't find one anywhere and believe me, I've spent a long time looking. Failing that, could someone tell me the archive status (i.e. exists/missing) of the following episodes, please?
The Lover Lena, Oh Lena
I was going to ask about more, but I've just realised that those are from an American series.

Lena, O My Lena was shown on Channel 4 in the Eighties, so it survives.

You're wasting your time with this. I know this trader very well and have traded with him myself many times. I'm fairly certain he doesn't own anything that could be considered missing. It's just a pretty bog-standard trading list, a fairly good one admittedly but there's nothing here the bfi will be doing cartwheels over.

Yes it seems worth pursuing just for the No Hiding Place episode alone, anything more would be superb.

'The Lover', however, doesn't seem to be on the list of surviving episodes. One of the Kaleidescope team recently recovered a missing Armchair Theatre though - not sure which one. Just struck me, is 'The Lover' the Pinter play with Vivien Merchant and Alan Badel, as that's not Armchair Theatre (or missing, I think)? Stuart

I don't usually like asking "Does this exist?", but I couldn't find the information anywere online. Out of interest, how did you check the archive status of the episodes?

Armchair Theatre is one of the programmes listed in Dick Fiddy's book for 'Missing, Believed Wiped' (not a book I'd recommend particularly, but useful sometimes). Stuart

The Lover does exist safely, in answer to the question. It was a standalone play though and not part of Armchair Theatre. It has been repeated a couple of times in recent years.
Many people may say it's a wasted exercise checking out these lists of TV material - but I don't. It always worth delving. You NEVER know what you may find until you find it. This is how missing items are usually uncovered - by persistence and thorough detective work!

Out of interest, how did you check the archive status of the episodes? The best place to look up archive status of programmes is in the Kaleidoscope Guides (their website will have details). A new version of the drama guide is out soon, I believe. They are very useful and well researched books but pretty pricey.

This is how missing items are usually uncovered - by persistence and thorough detective work! Was Girl on a Trapeze and the first reel of Hot Snow not good enough for them? There's no harm in looking. In the past couple of weeks, I've found possible leads to a missing No Hiding Place episode and, again, possible leads to missing colour episodes of Steptoe and Son. Of course, both leads could come to nothing, but they're worth investigating if they look hopeful. Maybe one day we'll find a collector who recorded every episode of Doctor Who off-air... [dreams]

Most fans seem to pour cold water on any possible leads with a "it'll be a hoax" attitude. More often than not it probably leads to nothing but occasionally the effort is repayed (like with the UCLA Avengers finds, as you say). Much more TV is out there to be found - of that i'm certain. Never say never!
