I've found a collector who has this episode. Checking the missing episodes list on the main site, this episode is listed as missing. So, is this episode actually missing or has the episode been recovered and the guide not been updated?

By the way, I think the episode is on videotape. They also have other episodes from series with missing episodes, such as The Avengers, Boyd QC, Z Cars, Public Eye, Adam Adamant Lives!, but none of those are missing.

It's definitely missing. So worth chasing up, i'd say. If it's on VT, it's even more of a rarity as very little Rediffusion VT survives! Speak to Dick Fiddy at the BFI about possible recovery; someone here may have his e-mail address...

Any chance of finding out which episodes of "Z Cars" and "Adam Adamant" they have? There's always a chance there might be some reason why their copy is better than the BBC's... might be worth pursuing (and, I'm just curious!)

Thanks for the replies.
No offence intended, but is there anyone other than Dick Fiddy who I can e-mail? The reason I ask is because on a previous occasion, I e-mailed him about a missing episode and didn't receive a reply. A simple acknowledgement along the lines of "I'll look into it" so that I know that the e-mail been received and the matter investigated is all I need. For all I know, my e-mail might have been deleted as spam and I'm left wondering. (Maybe it was?)
Anyway, I'm surprised that the episode [/i]is[/i] missing as the owner clearly knows about missing episodes ("… so many were wiped"). His episodes - on videotape unless otherwise stated - from incomplete series are:
Adam Adamant Lives!:
The League of Uncharitable Ladies
The Avengers:
2.02 - Propellant 23 2.13 - Death Dispatch 2.16 - Immortal Clay 3.02 - The Undertakers 3.05 - Death of a Batman 3.06 - November 5 3.07 - Gilded Cage 3.12 - Don't Look Behind You 3.16 - Little Wonders 3.17 - The Wringer 3.18 - Mandrake 3.25 Esprit de Corps 2.06 - Removal Man ("on video" - commercial release?) 2.17 - Box of Tricks ("on video" - commercial release?) 2.22 - Man in the Mirror ("on video" - commercial release?) 2.24 - Chorus of Frogs ("on video" - commercial release?) 4.03 - The Cybernauts ("on film") 4.04 - Death at Bargain Prices ("on film") 4.08 - A Surfeit of H20 ("on film") 4.14 - Silent Dust ("on film") 4.20 - The Danger Makers ("on film") 4.22 What the Butler Saw ("on film") 4.23 House That Jack Built ("on film") 5.17 - Return of the Cybernauts ("colour series"; videotape?) 5.19 - The 50,000 Breakfast ("colour series"; videotape?) 5.20 - Dead Man's Treasure ("colour series"; videotape?) 6.21 - Stay Tuned ("colour series"; videotape?) 6.33 - Bizarre ("colour series"; videotape?)
Other: Promo (The Strange Case of the Missing Corpse)
Boyd QC:
In Camera
No Hiding Place:
1.17 - Victim of the Dark 3.06 - The Widower (wasn't a 16mm b/w t/r recovered from eBay quite recently?) 3.26 - Dead Ringer 4.06 - Third Party Risk 4.37 - Beware of Weepers 4.40 - Operation Tiptoe 7.14 - Smokey 9.02 - Ask Me if I Killed Her
Public Eye:

Z Cars:
1.01 - Four of a Kind 3.02 - Made for Each Other 3.14 - Tuesday Afternoon
Other series they have episodes from: Ghost Squad, Police Surgeon, Redcap, The Protectors, Riviera Police, Sergeant Cork, Danger Man, The Saint, Gideon's Way, Mystery Theatre, Court Martial, Espionage, The Human Jungle and Edgar Wallace.

Found even more listings, including a possible missing Billy Bunter episode (I'm confused, though):
Billy Bunter:
Backing Up Billy Bunter ("1956") Bunter Won't Go ("1960")
Is Backing Up Billy Bunter different to the missing Backing-up Bunter (20/05/1961) listed on Missing Episodes?
Other series that I've just discovered they have: Muffin the Mule, Mr. Pastry, City Beneath the Sea (ABC), Secret Beneath the Sea (ABC), The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (ABC), Foo Foo, Criss Cross Quiz, Double Your Money, Opportunity Knocks, The Golden Shot, This Is Your Life, Orient Express ("1953"), Tension/Crooked Path, Overseas Press Club, Tales from Dickens, One Step Beyond, African Patrol, White Hunter, Whiplash, Ramar of the Jungle, O.S.S. and Flying Doctor.
The person appears to be a trader and offering everything for trade, so there should be no problems recovering any missing material if it actually exists.
If you want any details on the "other series" mentioned in this post or my previous post, let me know. None of them ring a bell as having lost episodes.

Even more stuff following (none missing to my knowledge). It's confusing, but I'm getting the hang of it now.
Dr. Finlay's Casebook:
Dr. Finlay and the Phantom Piper of Tannochbrae
Hancock (1963):
1 - The Assistant 3 - Shooting Star 5 - The Man on the Corner 8 - The Craftsman 9 - The Night Out 12 - The Writer
The Tony Hancock Show:
No. 4? (June Whitfield, Ronan O'Casey and Clive Dunn)
Are any of those missing?
Other series: The Groove Family, Compact, Coronation Street, Emergancy Ward 10, Crossroads, Weavers Green, Saki, Guy du Maupassant, The Power Game, Out of this World, The Power Game, Armchair Theatre, Face to Face (mention of Tony Hancock), The Dream Machine, Puzzle Picture, Richard the Lionheart, Robin Hood, The Buccaneers, Ivanhoe, William Tell, The Count of Monte Cristo, Long John Silver, Sir Lancelot, Sir Franes Drake, Danzigers, Douglas Fairbanks Presents and various other programmes I deemed unworthy of mention (about trains and such). There's probably more that I missed too. Whoever I e-mail will have fun, I'm sure, getting used to the confused layout!
Also mentioned (of interest): Dad's Army ("incl. some 9 b/w") It Ain't Half Hot Mum Are You Being Served? Please Sir Dick Barton (1-5)

They're missing according to: www.xmission.com/~spectral/pythl/plpmis/mfta1/allgag.htmlThis could turn out to be a brilliant discovery! I'm excited to see how it turns out. From this message board, which person or people should I e-mail the link to? I'm relucant to post it because I worry that the owner will get hassled by dozens of e-mails or warned off or something. The person/people I e-mail will need quite a bit of time to go through the site in detail (it can be quite confusing!) and also an extensive knowledge of missing episodes, especially those not listing on Missing Episodes. For example, personally, I have no idea about the Comedy Playhouse or Oh Boy! episodes - are they missing?! I also have no idea about low quality versions or edited versions and things like that. There does appear to be quite a bit of missing material in the possession of this trader, including No Hiding Place and All Gas and Gaiters and possibly even Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, (Tony Hancock footage), Oh Boy!, Comedy Playhouse, Oh Brother and even some series that I think may be complete (didn't someone post here about missing Crossroads episodes a few weeks ago?).

"The Bishop Rides Again" (Comedy Playhouse) and "The Bishop Sees a Ghost" were returned on Treasure Hunt by the writers; "The Bishop Gets the Sack" came back from Barbados in 1996 as part of a clear-out of material they were doing.

Whatever you do Ben, don't publish the URL online - the flood of Who 'Episode Hunters' refusing to take 'no' for an aswer would drive any trader nuts... Stuart I meant to say - if it's the site I think you're talking about, then this is certainly no hoax - but I admire your resourcefullness in wading through it I've had a look through it a few times but it was so frustrating to navigate and then compare to online missing episode lists, and I never spotted anything I could say for certain was missing.
