reminds me of the weak colour from 22-6-72 - with a bit of playing about I'm sure the colour could be boosted (if it was a Doctor Who it would've already been done no doubt!)

I've been told a feature of many U-matic recordings is that they APPEARS to b&w but can be restored to colour........

I am pretty sure Blue Mink did not appear on this edition - despite what all the old databases may say. Regards Mark I have the P as B info here as I researched a lot of TOTP at Caversham for the BBC database. Blue Mink are listed as appearing.

If the BBC have this episode in colour why did they show the Strawbs & Gilbert O'sullivan clips in black & white on TOTP2? The ZDF clip of Clair was taken from 12.10.1972 although it does look similar to the black & white TOTP clip. ;D homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/interest2.htmThe ZDF clip of Clair is identical to the performance on 16.11.72. As ZDF didn't air the clip till 6.1.73 then it's impossible to say what show it came from originally. It could be 16.11.72 or 12.10.72 or 2.11.72 or 9.11.72. I'm guessing that the BBC are showing clips from 16.11.72 in b&w because they can't be bothered to restore it to colour. They even showed clips on totp2 in b&w that are in perfect colour. (The Move's Flowers in the Rain from colour me pop being one).

A bit o/t but I looked at that link (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/interest2.htm) and it had the following intro to the listing:
"The tracks listed below are known or rumoured to exist in either private collections, official video/dvd releases or on bootlegs. Tracks marked in Red are unconfirmed."
In the list is included Peter Noone doing Oh You Pretty Things on TOTP. Is there any foundation to this? I mean anything could be 'rumoured' to exist !

"Peter Noone - Oh You Pretty Things" That does exist and is not rumoured. However there is a typo , it should read pans's people performance aswell. Thanks for spotting it. It was posted on youtube a few years back. As for 'rumours', they have to be very strong rumours and seen by at least one reputable person and i do mark those items in RED until they become common knowledge Most clips that have been recovered over the last few years start out as rumours or distant memories and that's how we find them isn't it.

What I can't understand (I'm a simple soul) is why things can appear on Youtube and then fail to see the light of day again. Surely it is possible to 'grab' them as they stream? There can be no copyright issues involved, as presumably the original poster doesn't own copyright either - in the words of a famous judgement (can't remember the judge) any argument between the grabber and grabbee would be 'like two burglars arguing over the swag'.

Agreed. Things need to change in order for 'lost' items to be preserved. Many things that have been recovered have never seen the light of day since. Which is a terrible shame and very frustratiing for 'us' enthusiasts. With all the great work done here and at KAL, there is still no way for people to view any recoveries apart from attending the odd event that shows them to the general public. But not everyone is within travelling distance and able to attend. There needs to be some sort of iplayer/youtube type way, maybe by subscription or whatever of viewing these recoveries. Copyright can be a right pain in the a**e sometimes. Just imagine if there was a fire or some other disaster at the location of the tapes, they would be lost forever. They need to get 'out' into the public domain in order to ensure they are never lost again. end of rant

Clair is in colour in the ZDF archives which BBC have no access to, thats why BBC play b/w. ZDF say that the perf is really theirs from a Disco show.

Blue mink was not on 16/11/72 but may have recorded a track for a future show.

'Crazy Horses' was shown in colour recently on the Big Hits compilation. Is this from the same show?

No, Crazy Horses was from 28.12.1972. Same performance, both in archive though presently one is b&w and the other colour.

But there is a totally different TOTP performance of 'Crazy Horses' lurking somewhere. There is a brief snippet of it used in the 'We Are Family' documentary and it features The Osmonds in their black Elvis rhinestone outfits and wearing chokers round the necks. It looks far more exciting than the usual one we've seen a hundred times. Does anyone know where this other clip comes from and does the full performance exist in the archive?
Most of the tracks from this show have been on TOTP2 over the years, however I have never seen the Slade or Neil Sedaka performances. Would love to see the complete show, the Jimmy Saville clips look so fantastic.
