Thanks for that info, Chris, I have sent an e-mail to see if I can get a copy as that is one show I have been after for ages. The show is worth it for the Srawbs alone! What a great track!! ;D

This show does exist at the BBC (in black & white) and segments have been shown before on TOTP2. Gilbert O'sullivan's Claire exists in colour via Germany's Disco (ZDF). ;D

This show does exist at the BBC (in black & white) and segments have been shown before on TOTP2. Gilbert O'sullivan's Claire exists in colour via Germany's Disco (ZDF). ;D AFAIK, "Clair" as shown in "disco" was taken from TOTP 12.10.1972, not 16.11.1972. Unfortunately, the clip in "disco" is not complete as it's missing the start. arte has shown Rod Stewart & The Faces' "Angel" from that edition (in colour!). The Strawbs clip has been shown on TOTP2 (in B&W), I have a copy in my collection. Gladys Knight is on the DVD "Best Of Motown" (though the date in the booklet is given as 25-03-1972, but that is obviously wrong), also in B&W.

Rod Stewart & The Faces "Angel" was shown in colour in the 1972 edition of the Rock And Roll Years - at the end whilst the credits rolled if I remember correctly. I've only ever seen the B/W version on TOTP2.
I'm also pretty sure that a colour version of the cartoon film for the Shrangi-Las track was shown on TOTP2 rather than the B/W version.

If you try turning the colour up on the youtube segment, you'll find that it is colour. It is just 'out of sync'. If that is a BBC copy then they have a colour version not a b&w version

I noticed that on the TOTP2 repeats of footage from 16-11-72 the clips did not appear to be truly black and white but had a weak colour signal - thought it was just my TV at the time!
P.S. I am pretty sure Blue Mink did not appear on this edition - despite what all the old databases may say.

Some crude colour filtering and this is the result. As you can see the colour is there, just out of sync.

If the BBC have this episode in colour why did they show the Strawbs & Gilbert O'sullivan clips in black & white on TOTP2? The ZDF clip of Clair was taken from 12.10.1972 although it does look similar to the black & white TOTP clip. ;D homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/interest2.htm

The BBC brains clearly haven't attempted to play with the show - the bits I have seen show the elements of colour are clearly there....
