I wouldnt mind seeing a few more shows from 77-81. Also the 60s clips could be made into a special 2 hour Top of the Pops

Very happy with this news. Might at last get to replace my faded old UK Gold VHS recordings. But would never get up my hopes they would show them on a nightly basis like UK Gold. Even one a week would do.
Anything from the 70's and early 80's works for me. Will also be nice to see them without those shabbily edited ad breaks.
Looking forward to this. Lets hope BBC4 does a good job. Then maybe follow this with some old OGWT repeats.

Wonder if they will include the recently resurfaced Lulu sourced show(from 68/69) or any of the recent discoveries - and would love to see the 26th Feb 70 edition with the Dave Clark "Everybody"
A question though I have a copy of an edition from early 1970 featuring Arrival performing "Friends" in black and white - I have seen a colour clip of the same performanceom You Tube, is that from another source or has it been re-coloured from the croma dot process

No, some clips from the 29/1/70 edition exist in broadcast quality colour (courtesy of Bob Pratt). About half the episode, in fact. If ever there was a candidate for colour recovery then it's this programme, being as there is much less work to do to complete a colour version.
On the subject of Bob Pratt, I hope that when these TOTP are finally shown, they won't forget that there's a weath of largely unseen (and in a few cases generally unknown about) clips saved by him. Strung together they would make a nice compilation of eras where there is little or no representation at all. Many are in colour too.

The Bad Company clip shown by Jools Holland was a good example, Laurence. I'd like to ask Andrew Martin if he has a list of what was part of the Bob Pratt collection, so we could add it to the databases of what we know exists.

It wouldn't surprise me, if BBC 4 don't show the same batch of totp that have already been shown on German TV!

That may be the case. However, some of us can't get German TV!

Great news. I imagine it's too much to ask though that certain shows are broadcast in unspliced form (ie without the "Sun Readers Edit")

I was advised that this might be happening in January next year - although I would add this isn't definate - it's just what someone I know has heard rumours of.......

Great news. I imagine it's too much to ask though that certain shows are broadcast in unspliced form (ie without the "Sun Readers Edit") Without the Gary Glitter edits, you mean? Yes, i'd rather they pick editions that don't feature him at all rather than chop them. Mind you, they'll be "doctored" in one way anyway - as regards being defaced by an ident on screen, which so many people accept as "ok" these days (but was a contributing factor in my decision to not have TV in my house a while back). So I suppose it's one kind of tampering or another, whatever. That's why I prefer to watch DVDs, as you don't get anything like that to irritate, distract or shatter the illusion. It would be nice if they could show 15/10/70, which, although it has mute links, is a strong show that hasn't been seen elsewhere. A simple comment at the start would field any questions.

I'm lucky enough to possess top-notch copies of 28/12/72 & 15/11/73, but would long for untampered copy of 25/1/73. Obviously supposedly starting the 1972 with a video of the dreadful Puppy Love, or chopping out the number one in 15/11/73 is clearly a nonsense, it's obviously the buggering of the previously unrepeated 25/1/73 that gets my goat (despite the edit on the Festival repeats being fairly well-done) - and it's nobodies fault but the BBC's that there is so little choice from that era.

What's your opinion of show's like Radio 2's "Million Sellers' Top 100 recently broadcast on August Bank Holiday Monday, whereby Gary Glitter's song was (I believe) the only record to be quickly mentioned on the chart but not played?
Ok, no one in their right mind would ever, ever, ever condone or think of him in a positive light with regards to the crimes he was convicted of, but to kind of try and "erase" him out of pop history, to me, seems really stupid.
He was a successful act during that certain era in the seventies - no matter what he went on to do - and therefore, I feel, should be represented in history (especially shows like the Radio 2 recent countdown) for his music and contribution at the time - not for what became of him in recent years....
Am I alone in thinking this? Am I wrong?
To me, it's almost along the lines of certain words removed from early OFAH episodes. Ok, "bad" words racially now - and perhaps then - I am again not condoning the words AT ALL, but - nevertheless, part of history and kind of "ok" in their context within the time of the show - if anything history should be shown "as it was" to really make us see just how far we have come - for the better!
Sorry - rant over !
