I was just browsing through my video clips on my hard drive and i came across another Sweet clip, this one is 'Ballroom Blitz' listed as from lift-off. Here it is on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tz6XAMPDS0is it Lift-off ? Probably from Andy Scott's collection. If So, that's another one to add to what survives. This is late 1974 & it's taken from German tv programme Tanzparty. They also mimed along to BLOCKBUSTERThanks I was going to query that too. Thought the formats similar to 'LIFT OFF' I noted the quality and similarity to German shows from 73 such as DISCO. I recall the format with the audience in view for earlier Lift off from 71 - 72 but around 73 mainly just the bands in view in seperate shots. More important I noted the bands appearance does not have the make up as for the record at the time. I queried this with a Sweet fan and they said the image was likely to be a performance between 'Teenage Rampage' and 'Action'.

It's definitely not Lift Off as the audience were never seated far off from the acts that way. They were always standing close around them, as with TOTP. The camera on view has an LWT logo on it to narrow things down a little but it isn't the Russell Harty Plus appearance that's usually seen.

Yes, you're right, Paul! What threw me was that I knew that this appearance had a brief cutaway to Wilfred Hyde White looking on from the side (one of the other guests). This colour t/r version doesn't have the shot (during the instrumental break) as it seems to have been edited out and replaced by a repeat of an earlier shot. There is a better quality copy of this appearance on the site though, looking like VT this time, which does have it!

Found details of another one
18 May 1975 16:50 to 17:20 Lift Off with Ayshea! Ayshea introduces another pop and laughter spectacular with her guest this week the Tremeloes, Mike Rose and the Colours and Mary Poppins…who’s on film of course! The backing vocalists are Chris Marlow and Lynn Garner and the choreography for the Feet is by Ken Martyne. The music is arranged by Gerry Allison and directed by Derek Hilton. The series finished in '74 so this must be an error on the date. Where did you find the details, Paul?

Details from TV Times (ATV edition), the date is correct. Could it be a repeat?

Yes, could be, although I haven't heard of any repeats before. Lift Off definitely had ended by then though. Anyone got the answer to this riddle?

One other 'Lift Off' memory has sprung to mind. A former manager Hal Carter was involved in the early days of Alvin Stardust. Hal told me that Peter Shelley (who sang 'My Coo Ca Choo') had already done a tv appearance as 'Alvin Stardust' on Lift Off wearing "hot pants, multi-coloured leggings and roller skates" before they drafted in Shane Fenton to front it.

I've now updated the lift-off episode guide on my website and with the very kind permission of Laurence Piper who provided the tv times listings here, i've added all that data as well. And along with the valuable information provided here and other forums by the very knowledgable people that contribute their memories and facts. Thanks to all. As you can see the episode numbers are a little muddled, there was (according to ITV 144 editions) so i've tried to fill in the gaps. There are still only 2 editions that survive out of the 144 (incredible) homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/LiftOff.htm

2 out of 144! Just spotted this on youtube. Audio only from Bowie on Lift Off June 72. www.youtube.com/watch?v=buUhom3CMywFirst time I've heard it, where its unearthed from I don't know? Nice echoey vocals, pre-recorded backing track same as TOTPs. Fluffed his lines a bit mind but a great find after all this time.

It's been some time since I last entered a comment (2008 in fact!) but at the time I was trying to get a copy of Lift off with Ayshea, Episode 136 (15th October 1974). Well, I now have a copy. Of course, I had to sign an agreement that it would be only for my personal home use but I can supply details of the acts, in order: 1) Jigsaw 2) A song from Ayshea 3) Bay City Rollers (All off me loves all of you) 4)Eli Culbertson (I need your love tonight) 5) A song from Ayshea 6) Barry Blue (Hot Shot) after which Barry presents silver discs to BCR 7) (to closing credits) Bay City Rollers (Shang-a-lang) (outdoor footage)
True nostalgia!
