Slightly O/T since it's not ITV or Lift Off,but ain't it typical that the Zoo Quest footage was in the BBC archive, uncatalogued?

I read somewhere that the Adam Lee Tapes were offered to the BFI but they turned them down.

There is not an even a remote possibility this article talking about the episodes being destroyed in the digital age could be correct in any shape or form. I believe they may have been wiped in the 80's. But any later than that? Surely not. As bleslie says, quite rightly, there are things amiss in the article. Bear in mind that The Adventures of Rupert Bear (Polygram wiped the ATV show) and the Adam Lee Wipings of BBC childrens' shows were in the early 90's - and Lift Off was thought of as a childrens' show. It may be worth me asking the very wonderful Keith Badman about his opinion on this - or Chris Perry - as both of them have excellent contact with ITN Source. I will be back online more from next week - I've taken a bit of a ""holiday"" at the moment. I canna see why polygram wiped ATV's adaptation of Rupert bear when they bought the ITC archive in 1994.everytime a major film studio or distributor acquires an archive of a former ITV franchise they don't want every single programme that exists. all they want to keep is their best-known & fondly-remembered shows like 'the saint' 'dangerman' & 'thunderbirds' but not forgotten shows like nutwood's famous bear. what do you say? should a major film company keep the whole archive or wipe most of them & keep other shows from other companies they own?this could be under the studio's current profile by its owners.

“I couldn’t believe it when I found out. Apparently Granada TV was transferring them to digital and instead of getting rid of the three tapes that were repeats, they ditched the 141 originals. It’s heartbreaking. The 141 episodes of Lift Off With Ayshea, the must-see 1970s pop programme, were lost in a digital transfer error, robbing the singer and presenter of a fortune in repeat fees. I’m just hoping that there are some tapes somewhere in the world and Sunday Express readers can help me track them down.Do you have a copy of any Lift Off TV shows, or know anyone who does? Email clair.woodward@express.co.uk Shouldn't somebody put Ayshea in touch with the guy who has all those old Phillips tapes which included loads of Lift off episodes? The one who wanted £1000s to sell them? Maybe he would be more reasonable with her?

Done Hi Clair, I not sure if anyone has told you already about this lead on some reel to reel home video recordings of Lift Off. I'm a member of the Missing Episodes Forum and back in March 2015 a guy called Ronnie showed screen grabs of Lift Off from a collection of reel to reel videos that had come into his possession. At the time he was offering them for sale for quite large sums of money. Unfortunately the screen grabs are no longer there but the topic, discussion etc remains, see the link below. missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/10755/ronnies-39-tape-listingYou can access the forum as a guest or sign up, it may be possible to put Ayesha in touch with him and, who knows he may still have the recordings. Good luck, And best wishes. Richard Sent from my iPad mini

I did hear that some U-matic recordings of Lift Of exist, possibly viewing copies made by Granada.

Is Ronnie now living in the lap of luxury somewhere with the spoils of his deal, or was the whole thing a massive wind-up? Ronnie went silent after someone asked him how much he actually wanted for his tapes.

Not a peep out of the Express Reporter, she couldn't even be bothered to reply to my email. Perhaps she forwarded the email on to Ayesha, who knows? Disappointing really, but I guess that to a reporter perhaps the moment had gone.

I can't find it now but someone here posted a colour shot of The Sweet performing on a TV show. I think they said they'd sourced the photo from an annual of some kind, and I think the show was Lift-Off but I can't be sure (they appeared to be performing outside in a city centre).
One of Ronnie's photos of his TV appeared to be showing exactly that same image. I don't think it was too long after the colour photo had been posted here - I certainly recognised the image. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Does anyone have those two photos? Anyway, I didn't say anything at the time but it did seem a bit of a coincidence.

I wonder if it was the Sweet singing "Alexander Graham Bell" in the Barbican Car Park? which was shown on The Dave Cash Radio Programme
It's been discussed on the forum before

What did happen with those tapes of Ronnie's? After a flurry of activity it all seemed to go very quiet.

Didn't it all start turning a bit nasty in the end so we don't know what the final outcome was.

The thread just stopped, IIRC. Some forum members were getting excised about trading, quite reasonably, while others just wanted to keep discussions going with the likes of Kal because of the rarity of the material. A difficult one to moderate I would have thought because of the conflicting issues. The screen grabs were convincing, the only thing that surprised me at the time was that I would have expected the reel to reel video to have been in 405 and the playback appeared to be in 625 line which gave me cause to think. Does anyone on the forum know if any of the commercially available recorders from the late 60s early 70s were capable of recording UHF signals?

I went to see Ayshea last night at the Cinema Museum in London. She was very entertaining and repeated what's been posted previously about the guy getting his wires crossed and wiping the vast majority of episodes while keeping just 3 that were repeats, instead of the other way around.

Since I'm a Fred Barker fan and there's nothing of him online, I saved the playback images from Ronnie's thread. Here's one of them.
