Dave
as far as I know This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us was not broadcast that time. The only appearance I know is back from Feb 1975 Something for the Girl with everything.
The Sparks special released in 1997 using this old recording from Musikladen. I am quite sure that there are more title in the archiv never shown, but its quite difficult to find out with Radio Bremen.

AFAIK, and I don't know much about this, "Musikladen" also had specials interspersed with the normal editions which would be devoted to one band. If the Sparks recording is the one with Russ dressed like Rupert Bear (checked trousers and scarf) then I've got a 45 min version of that on tape here.

There was a '90s special that used several of those Sparks tracks mixed with (then) up to date performances and interviews too. I haven't seen an original special from the '70s (about 1975) with this material till now (although i'd very much like to see one if it was made). The tracks i've seen include This Town, Something For The Girl With Everything and Never Turn Your Back. All live with Russell wearing his "skiing gear" as I call it. What other tracks were there?

This is the track list from the special released 1997 Sparks damals & heute (1997) This town ain‘t big enough for both of us (16.06.1975) Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil (12/94) Turn your back on mother earth (16.06.1975) Amateur hour (16.06.1975) Where do I get to sing "my way" (12/94) Frankly scarlet don‘t give a damn (12/94) (When I kiss you) I hear Charly Parker playin‘ (12/94) Singin‘ in the shower (with Les Rita Mitsouko) (1988) Tsui Hark (12/94) Let‘s go surfin‘ (12/94)
I am sure that there are more tracks unreleased in the archive of Radio Bremen. Very often we identified those recordings in compilations.
Jörg Sonntag (Radio Bremen) said that they have recordings in the archive to produce weekly shows for years.

The Sparks one was repeated 23/3/96 (probably N3) - this wasn't the "Damals und Heute" programme, but a different one.
"This Town Ain't Big Enough","Amateur Hour","BC","Never Turn Your Back","Something For The Girl". All in one chunk.
Looking thru here, I also have single "Musik-Laden" editions devoted to Ramones, UK Subs, Procol Harum x2, Blondie x2, Steve Harley/CR, Darts, Police, Stevie Wonder, Bryan Ferry/Roxy, David Bowie x2 (same?), Doors, Stone The Crows. I only recorded what sounded interesting, so there were probably others. I recall a Suzi Quatro set too (late 70s) from "ML" but I can't find that..

The 3 Musikladen Box Sets are now available after some delay in the release date – and - like the “Story of Beat Club” box sets - are simply magnificent. Similar disc and box layout to their predecessors with attractive 40 page booklets for each set.
I cannot detect any missing or removed performances at all – all episodes in the run from 1972 to 1984 are included bar the German-only one (No 73). Both parts of the Episode 6 are also included (strangely on separate discs), wheras recent transmission runs have tended to skip the 2nd part with Roxy Music/Neil Sedaka.
I have only had time to skim through my copies, but the presentation and vision is absolutely magnificent – as can be expected from these releases.
The amount of work to obtain music clearances for all this material would have been considerable, something that no other companies outside Germany have yet to engage in. (My apologies to “Reeling InThe Years”). The release puts the rest of the world to shame yet again and only illustrates where there is a will there is a way to get this material out there. To Radio Bremen and ArdVideo – a first class job yet again!! To the rest of the world sitting on archival material (attn BBC & Top Of The Pops) shame on you - yet again!! Why can the Germans do it but we not?
The only site that seems to have the box sets on offer at the moment are Ardvideo.de – I have not sighted them on Amazon yet. For all fans of music from the 1972 to 84 era – these are a must!!

I'm thinking about these, particularly the earlier shows.

Brett I am just checking Box sets. Found out that Beatles song were cut as they did in the Beat Club Box Sets. Further located presently 2 Titles which were not on DVD. Both Titles were aired during repat of shows in German TV. However, once I finshed the check I will place a list of Titles cut from Original. this link does have the complete play lists of Musikladen Boxsets incl. the Titles cut (marked with ***) (those marked with ** are cut in german TV repeat) www.forumromanum.de/member/forum/....formeleins.html

I'm sure the picture quality is very good on the Musikladen DVDs as it is on the Beat Club DVDs however the lip synched performances should surely of been overdubbed into stereo. It's only a 10 minute job per track and makes all the difference.

Hi Laurence The best episode run down (for us English-speaking users) is probably on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MusikladenAs Frank has mentioned, there are a small number of edits on the Boxed Sets episodes - a few Beatles flashback segments (also missing from the Beat Club sets), and a German-only Musikladen special replaced with a Don Williams special - which seems to be the "official" episode 73 rather than the German-only one anyway. Regards Brett

Agreed – probably better if they did that – the only thing is many of the performances from the earlier years have the artist or group performing live to the original backing track. And the great thing about the show is the many truly live performances, particularly in the earlier years. The 80’s seem to be mainly lip-synchs though.

If you can post in this forum the performances that have been cut that would be great – plus those that are different to the TV broadcasts. I cannot seem to locate the listing in the forums – the language barrier holds me up unfortunately!! Also I have not seen the 2nd part of Episode 6 on recent TV broadcasts – only the older N1 versions. Why would the episode be cut in half and put on different DVD’s? Very strange. Great to have the whole thing for the first time though.
