And while these episodes were "lost" in transit there was ample opportunity for illegal copying. If you were in charge of extracting a clip for a show, it's the easiest thing in the world to run off a U-matic or Shebaden copy of the whole show, whether or not they thought to do that is another matter.

I finally found the tread I had been looking for. Someone else posted on an old thread about a missing Boyd QC episode and there it was. Nothing ever came of it and it might be all bull but this is from a regualar poster.
There are dozens of good tv prints of missing material currently in private hands of these 'evil forces'. Some people who have posted to this message forum have prints they don't own up to. If everyone were more open there would be a lot more material available generally. This includes the much coveted BBC missing science fiction. One collector told me last year that he 'will keep handing over prints bit by bit to keep the interest up'.
I just always thought it odd that nothing was ever said or discussed about this.

Um, Ron -
Insulting people is not going to make them more likely to return stuff that they may have in their posession.
Furthermore, in my opinion you are just plain wrong -- there may be a few shows here and there that people are holding onto and not talking about, but the idea that there's some community of hoarders out there is ludicrous.
Most of the major collectors of material have made any and all missing footage available to the rights holders. Some rights holders are easy to deal with -- like the BBC -- and that stuff gets back relatively easily. Other stuff is nearly impossible to return because there is no clear place to send it.

I just always thought it odd that nothing was ever said or discussed about this. That was the thread that I resurrected, wasn't it? It had been irritating me for awhile. Though I should point out that I did a Google search after I resurrected and I THINK that the Boyd QC episode was purchased by a collector and had since been returned to the relavent archives, but I don't know how true this is, which is why I didn't mention it in the thread. As for the person who is apparently slowly handing missing material back, I'm not sure that I believe this, but I could understand why someone would do this. Would you rather have ten Doctor Who episodes handed back in one go and that's your lot or one episode over every, say, two months or even three or four? It would be a great way to boost morale in regards to missing episodes and keep interest alive. If all ten hypothetical episodes were handed back at once, the interest wouldn't last nearly as long (though I wonder if should a find would prompt another BBC Treasure Hunt?). Would it be possible for us to know a few examples of what this collector has returned in the past and any clues as to what they still have and/or when the next material might be returned? Thanks.

Um, first off StevenS I'm not insulting anyone. What I had meant to do was copy the middle portion from someone elses post. Look on the missing episodes forum under Boyd QC episode on ebay and you'll see it's from a well known poster and collector on this forum. It's just always made me wonder why not much attention was paid to that post is all. About being just plain wrong, who knows. I'm not saying there are tons of episode hoarders with missing episodes but there is one episode out there of A for Andromeda that is being hoarded. So you never know.

It's been discussed on here some time ago and if you go to this web site www.british-tv-history.co.uk/ and go to a link squared-eye tv there is a section on A for Andromeda that list everything known to exist.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. It's good to know that things exist even if they don't officially.
I'll have a look around the forums for a thread about the episode rather than ask the obvious "How do we know it's not a hoax?" and "Why won't the collector allow the BBC to make a copy?" questions.

There is a guy called DArren living in Blackpool who apparently is known as ahoaxer. However I met him recently and can confirm that he DIES have short clips of at lest four missing episodes on a VHS tape that he claims he was sent by the holder of these entire episodes. The quality was perfect on a Highlanders cclip and poor on the Space Pirates clip. He claims nofurther interest in Dr Who and wasnt gloating about them at all. Ny interest in Who is slight , being a STAR TREK fan but I knew there were episodes mising from BBC, hence coming on here. He hates WHO fans with a passion and it will be difficult to get these clips off him ,but he has a weakness for the TOMORROW PEOPLE if anyone has any rareities??? Anyway, hus number is 07891545377. Good luck

Darren Gregory is the biggest liar going and he has spent *years* winding people up, placing false adverts in the press and so on. Anything he tells you can be dismissed as total and utter rubbish - this is the man who at various times, has claimed to had virtually every missing episode. He is *seriously* deranged. Richard

Yes, Those are the clips I was thinking of.
Paul I,m afraid that, given your self admitted lack of DW knowledge, Darren G has fooled you with his BS.
