More Crossroads. At least until the end of the ATV era and including any off-airs that have come to light since the last release. Would also love to see more 60's Corrie with the fabulous Pat Phoenix.

Predictably Doomwatch, Counterstrike and Out of the Unknown. Re stuff currently missing season 1 and 2 of Ace of Wands would do nicely!

Spike Milligan's Q series The Innes book of Records James Burke's Connections (the first series) I *cannot* understand why these are not seeing the light of day. I do have a copy of the latter, which I went to considerable time, trouble and expense to acquire from the US (it includes rights to show it in public!). For some reason the first series (made by the BBC) is unavailable in this country, whereas the next two series (made by discovery channel) can be bought (though again from America). Richard 2 1/2 years on from this post, I would like to add James Burke's The Day the Universe Changed, which I am now watching courtesy of a downloaded bootleg. I want to buy it, but I can't - at least, not without getting it from the US at stupid expense. Does anyone know why these BBC programs are not being released by the BBC? Richard

Richard I'm guessing some rights issue on material featured.

I find it hard to imagine.
I think it's one of those programs that the BBC doesn't think has enough of an audience in the UK to merit a DVD release.
A bit like Monty Python was, for ages.
And yet they released The Ascent of Man, for example.
I just don't get it.

The BBC have always been slow to utilise their archive and it seems to me that they still undervalue what they have. That might be part of the reason. I'd argue though that the BBC should be making their riches accessible as a matter of priority, being the sort of organisation they are supposed to be. The drag with this whole situation is that are "we people of a certain age" ever going to see some of the material again that we desperately want to in our lifetimes?!

I would like to see Rudolph Cartier's 1958 version of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 35mm neg exists at the BFI and it's criminal that this isn't 'out there' (as with practically anything directed by Cartier that remains unreleased!)

Isn't there some sort of plan in the offing to make the archives much more available via some sort of download on demand service?
Richard
(apologies if I'm well behind the times with this one)

Yes, I'd like to see Thirty Minute Theatre: The News Benders released (I didn't manage to catch the BBC-4 repeat some years ago). Collections of single plays are something that have been neglected on DVD compared to other genres. I'm not too optimistic about the BBC downloads thing happening comprehensively in the near future (it's not my preferred method of distribution anyway) and fear that much of what we want to see most will remain inaccessible for the forseeable future.

I would like to see the following released on dvd. Front Page Story was an ATV Production that was shown on Tuesdays from 19/1/65 - 20/7/65. The episodes were 50 minute duration. All 26 episodes exist in the archive. What is remarkable about this Series is the people who appeared in it..the following list of 65 reads like a who's who of British drama of the time, which makes it even more astonishing that it has been overlooked for release. Derek Godfery, Derek Newark, Roddy McMillan, John Bennett, Ivor Dean, Harry Towb, Vernon Dobtcheff, John Welsh, Patricia Lawrence, Carmel McSharry, Suzan Farmer, Noel Johnson, Royston Tickner, Patrick Mower, Gordon Gostelow, Philip Locke, John Wentworth, Keith Barron, Peter Barkworth, John Ringham, Alan Browning, Martin Boddey, Anthony Newlands, Donald Pickering, Robert Dorning, Sydney Tafler, Geoffrey Chater, Diana Coupland, James Kerry, Unit 4 + 2 as Unit Four Plus Two, Rupert Davies, Peter Gilmore, Brain Rawlinson, Ernest Clark, Rudolph Walker, Fred MacNaughton, Warren Stanhope, Annette Andre, Garfield Morgan, John Harvey, Alan Tilvern, Arthur Pentelow, Sheila Raynor, Nora Nicholson, Vlaydek Sheybal, John Justin, Frank Williams, Gerald Flood, Penelope Keith, Ursula Howells, Wilfred Lawson, Michael Rothwell, Bernard Archard, John Carson, James Culliford, Penny Brahms, Judy Parfitt, Philip Latham, Lloyd Lamble, Priscilla Morgan, Donald Eccles, Jane Downs, Duncan Lamont, David Lodge and Jack May.

Yes, I've always wanted to see Front Page Story as well. Network should have brought that one out long ago! Same goes for The Flower Of Gloster (which all still exists in full colour from 1967).

Stephen
re: Unit Four Plus Two, your question were they in it,... they are listed at the end of the cast list, for the episode The Personal Touch, 9.10pm -10.05pm Tuesday 9 March 1965. This also had John Bennett, Ivor Dean, David Lodge and Jack May. This episode was written by Raymond Bowers and directed by Eric Price

Another ATV production I would like to see released on dvd is Fire Crackers. All 13 episodes exist in the archive. It was an amusing Comedy which ran for 2 Series. Series 1 of 6 episodes 29/8 - 3/10/64. Series 2 of 7 episodes 6/1 - 20/2/65. It couldn't help be but funny when you look at the regular cast of Alfred Marks, Cardew Robinson, Joe Baker, Sydney Bromley, Ronnie Brody and Norman Chappell. With episode titles like Wanted - One Fire, easy to see why at least some people liked it.
