Simon, re:1984 - you can get it on DVD, albeit on Region 1. Does anyone know why this and (for example) "Beyond The Fringe" are only available on Region 1?

For years I have been hoping to see Vote For Froglet. The special episode of the Clangers which aired during a 1973 election special (the October one I believe)
What I've heard is that the rights are held by the BBC and not by SmallFilms. And as such Vote for Froglet sits on some dusty shelf somewhere. I once even looked up the address and code for the shelf!
It would be lovely to see Vote for Froglet out in the world at large again.
But really, the entire Clangers library needs some care and attention.
At the moment you can get The Clangers on DVD, series 1 and 2, but repeatedly on various episodes you can clearly see tape distortion. It's obvious that they took an old tape master and just transferred that to DVD.
The original films for the Clangers exist. So ideally I'd like a Blu Ray release, remastered from the original films.
But first and foremost, just would be lovely to see the entire catalog released.

Charles,I thought for a moment that 'Vote for Froglet' might be a belated April Fools joke. Apologies.(In fact the site seems to have avoided that entirely). Yep,it's a shame that most kids' series get no respect with regard to DVD releases.

Good thing I didn't post this 24 hours earlier. yeah, Vote for Froglet is a real thing. I've even seen 15 seconds of it. It is a real shame that SmallFilms of all things is so neglected. I'm sure the quality which could be achieved with the original footage would be impressive. And Oliver Postgate is such an important person in television history.

Postgate and Firmin's shows had old-fashioned British whimsy in buckets, and I love them. Unfortunately they didn't make much impact in Australia, so they're not available here.
I'd like to see a good collection of "It's A Square World" cleaned up and released on DVD.

I think I'm right in saying that quite a few Squard Worlds exist / were transmitted on 35mm t/rs (for ease of editing the visual effects) so they should look pretty good quality anyway. Bearing in mind that the show is a rare example of an early '60s innovative BBC comedy series that survives in bulk, I can't understand why it's been so overlooked / under-appreciated up to now.
I also agree with the comments regarding the Postgate archive (an important piece of TV history). Cleaned up and cared for, they'd look really impressive.

I'd love to see The Enchanted Castle, Aliens in the Family, Out of the Unknown (all surviving), Doomwatch (all surviving), Till Death us do part (all surviving).
Are there rights issues with The Enchanted Castle/Aliens in the Family? They would seem fairly well known and obvious candidates for DVD release but there doesn't even seem to be a single off-air clip on youtube.

Can't see a listing for ir on the BBC Motion Gallery, but they have 'Time Shift: Oliver Postgate: a Small Life in Films' 22/12/09,which has a section on his politics and the Froglet special.(Which they have as being broadcast on election night 10/10/1974). yeah, Vote for Froglet is a real thing. Youtube has a silent version of 'Vote For Froglet',as well as 'Children's TV on Trial: the 1970s" with a clip, and O.P. talking about his politics.(Which I suppose was reused for the 'Time Shift'). www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhZNFEplKLA

I'll watch the Children's TV on Trial programme asap! Probably tonight sometime after work. Will also hunt down the silent version of Vote For Froglet! Extremely curious about it. But yes, obviously will be difficult to make out without the Postgate narration. I'm really looking forward to this though! You've made my day!

A Basil Brush that's better than the crummy 50-minute job that's out now.
A more comprehensive Not Only... But Also... set(I realise that certain musical spots and John Lennon will be tricky, but still).

More ABC editions of Armchair Theatre would be nice, as well as further volumes of Tempo!

But Also... set(I realise that certain musical spots and John Lennon will be tricky, but still). A CD boxset containing all of the off-air soundtracks of Not Only... But Also (including the missing ones) was lined up for release last year. We did quite a lot of work on it. However, the whole thing got blocked by the agents representing the estate of Dudley Moore. Oddly enough, they never gave us an explanation as to why they were blocking it. You don't always get given a reason. Sometimes, a proposed release just gets turned down by an estate, who don't like the idea of putting the material out for one reason or another and that's all there is to it. With the end of AudioGO, it's all a little bit academic now, of course.

What a shame. A comprehensive NOBA set has always been one of the prime candidates for DVD release. It's a core element of archive TV which should be "out there" and readily available.
