Beautiful is certainly not a term I'd use to describe our Liz... she was more a comfortably built 'girl-next-door' type.
Still, each to their own, but a lovely little actress in her day.

Fantastic Ed. I have just downloaded it and am listening now. Super episode. Interesting to hear two other Dad's Army guest actors (Graham Stark and Elizabeth Morgan) in the cast too.

fantastic news Ed. i love these shows. I hope one day the last remaining missing show turns up. Where did you find this recovered episode? Is it a new recovery or has it been doing the rounds for a while?

As I have said before, The New Level Crossing exists, it's just in a really poor state. We need a better version to surface. My copy is really muffled and poor and there are bits missing. Pity as it has Bill Pertwee in it and he was always good.
Sad to hear that Little Nethering was shut down in the 'latest' episode. ;D

Hi guys, I have just located my copy of The New Level Crossing. It is on CD (though it came from a tape which I have somewhere). The duration is 23.34 mins and the beginning is missing. It is a terrible audio copy, it starts off ok but gets gradually more faint and hissy, and in the middle there seems to have been an edit (not cut out, instead like two copies have been fused together to make the best of a bad thing as a couple of lines repeat and are louder the second time).
The story is however (barely) followable. Parsley Sidings is to get a new Level Crossing - something they have been asking for since 1928. But when the area manager arrives to check out the station for installation he discovers Bradshaw is incompetent and the signals box is rotting. He sacks Bradshaw and condemns he signals box. When Horace finds out he protests and offers an ultimatum that if Bradshaw goes, he goes too. Ryan accepts, so now Horace is also out of a job. The rest of the staff go on strike but to no avail. So Horace and Gloria go to see Euston himself. There is some other mumbled scene which is hard to hear, then there's another edit where something is missing, and suddenly it's more audible and we hear Bradshaw going berserk about his signal box as Euston himself is opening the new level crossing. I won't spoil the end for you all. Bill Pertwee plays Mr Ryan.
Anyway, as I say this recording is utterly dreadful. Towards the end I have to crank the volume up to max to hear the dialogue, over the hiss. But as no other decent copy has turned up at all, I would be happy to share this with others here (I have already passed on a few copies around colectors so why not?).
Can someone please suggest to me how I can easily upload it somewhere so you guys and girls can download it? The file is 22.6MB in size. I only have dial up which makes things difficult but I could perhaps do it from Mum's place as she has broadband.

Thanks Greg, I will try to find some time to get to a highspeed connection and get it up there, if I can work out how to.

Dave, if you manage to get it uploaded can you put a link to it on here as i would love to hear it even if its a bad copy.
Also i wonder if theres anybody on here who could do a bit of restoration on it? Maybe someone could reduce the hiss and adjust the varying sound levels

Sure I'll put a link up, but I don't hold out hope for much restoration.
I have waited for years for a better copy to turn up but none has. I think now if I make the effort to share this round, Sod's Law will mean a good version will arrive on the scene.
I have not tried to hog this by the way, I don't approve of that and have returned a few lost things to the BBC (and tried to return other lost stuff and been ignored by them). I just thought the more generations it gets copied the worse it will get and most people will be disappointed.

has anyone given this link a try yet? I'm keen to know if I did it right, and what people think of the recording too.

Hi Dave. i have tried to download the track but it seems to save as a CDA file instead of MP3. i googled this and found some details on line that says 'Unfortunately, your computer can't store files in CDA format, so you still have to convert CDA files to another format to store on your hard disk.'
im wondering if you can upload it in a different file format?
not a computer expert so maybe someone else on here can advise
