Marc was kind enough to let me have .wav recordings from his original tapes, to replace the mp3 files he had posted online.

The .wav's are intended to be used by the Dad's Army Appreciation Society archive section, who are carrying out a restoration of this series.

Unfortunately the .wav files run to hundreds of MB each, so are too big to post on line. But the DAAS hope to present a restored set of episodes to the BBC once the restoration work is finished.

However, I don't know how long the restoration work is likely to take.

As Marc has already posted mp3 versions of the files, I'm not proposing to repeat that, as a fresh encode to mp3 will be identical to his mp3's, coming from the same source tapes.

But .wav files are of a technically better quality for restoration purposes, as they retain all the analogue sound frequencies - unlike mp3!

The series starts with the pilot "The royal train" on BBC4extra, on Nov1st
8am, 12am & 7 pm - hopefully, all 21 episodes will be transmitted - they have them.

They ran a trailer for this on Radio 4 Extra yesterday. The announcement went:

The full first series of Parsley Sidings begins next week on Thursday morning at 8 o'clock, with more chances to hear it at midday and in the evening at seven.

So only the first 11 episodes appear to be scheduled at the moment.

The pilot episode and the ten episodes of series 1 were broadcast. on Radio 4 Extra, beween 1 November 2012 and 17 January 2013 inclusive.

Series 2 was not included, presumably because two episodes from that series are lost.

I don't think there are any episodes missing now, its more likely that some of the recordings are too poor quality to broadcast

There are two editions from series 2 which were formerly lost, but for which recordings have recently been discovered. The technical quality of these two recovered recordings is not perfect.

Those two episodes actually ARE the recordings which aired on Radio 4 Extra: they are recorded from the 2014 repeats, but an examination of my recordings from the 2016 repeats establishes that the station has not obtained better recordings in the interim.

The quality of both episodes is very much improved on the recordings available prior to 2010.

I have not made any alterations of my own: the recordings I upload are always stream-copied (using: ffmpeg -acodec copy), with no re-encoding. 'The Film Makers' could use a bit of work, as it's very hissy. But what you hear is exactly as broadcast, i.e. exactly what it sounded like on 4 Extra.
