This looks interesting. Lost Totp Footage! can it be true or a publicity stunt to get people to watch? anyway, here's when and where.... Marc Bolan: The Final Word, showing September 14th on BBC 4 at 9:00pmThis solid documentary on Marc Bolan has been timed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the teen idol's tragic death in a car crash. The documentary, narrated by fellow glam-rock star Suzi Quatro, examines Bolan's childhood ambitions of fame and where it led him, using previously lost TV and radio interviews, rediscovered Top of the Pops recordings, unseen concert footage and unique home movies. Includes contributions from his companion Gloria Jones, brother Harry Feld, producer Tony Visconti, Queen's Roger Taylor, Steve Harley, Zandra Rhodes and more, with Visconti also deconstructing the hit single Ride a White Swan. Sounds promising, but it's probably just the 'Disco' clips that we've seen many times before!

Wow i was only just thinking about an hour ago if any TOTP performances existsed for T REX. If they are new footage then maybe there is more new TOTP footage in the vaults that we dont know about

It is known that Marc Bolan owned an early video recorder on which he inevitably would tape his own TV appearances. In recent years, the Bolan estate have unearthed many tapes that Bolan owned - multitracks and the like, so its possible they may have found some of the video recordings he had. If such videotapes still exist, they may contain other lost TV appearances such as "Lift Off" which I think he did only the once.
Having said that, I'm not holding my breath and wouldn't be at all surprised if the "rediscovered" TOTP footage is simply the material from those German "Disco" shows none of which were ever used on TOTP2. I hope I will be proved wrong since any new TOTP finds would be very welcome. The one I'd personally love to see is "Ride A White Swan". I do look forward to seeing Tony Visconti presumably showing us how it was recorded from the multi tracks.
Fingers crossed anyway!

This is good news indeed. Loved the "Disco" lost Top Of The Pops clips. I was thinking the same thing as Peterelliott that these may only be those Disco clips to be broadcast. However, this was stated in the article:
Aside from forgotten home videos and stills shot by the star's brother, Harry Feld, the producers also came across episodes of Top of the Pops, previously thought to have been lost, in which Bolan and T. Rex appeared live.
It specifically states above that episodes, not performances or clips were found. Maybe these private home video recordings of Bolan's were indeed procured by the producers. Can't really speculate any further, as we know nothing definite on which clips, which missing editions, etc. Will definitely keep an eye on this thread as it develops.

That tacky tabloid tribute show 'Marc Bolan:20th Century Boy' shown saturday just gone also unearthed some 'new' footage, although not lost TOTP footage (see screenshots below). A colour performance of Tyrannosaurus Rex was shown briefly, and totally different to all previously found footage. This lost TOTP footage sounds like a dream come true though! If only we could all get to see the complete shows... Wish I was Rolan Bolan...just for a day!

Does anyone own The T.Rex on TV? is it good or bad? is it complete performances or just 1 song from each TV Set?

It would be great if some new footage has been found. As regards T.Rex on TV, a fantastic DVD. Now available for just £4.99! I think it's r.r.p was about £17 when released, I was overjoyed to get it for £9.99, but at £4.99 it's essential for anyone's collection. You'll love it. It features one-off performances from TOTP and Disco plus Supersonic and some short clips including an appearance on YTV's Pop Quest kids show. www.find-dvd.co.uk/DEMONDVD007.htm

This comes from Beat Club, as I have stated before the producer of beat club got the bands to do a warm up song before recording the actual performance for tx. Of course the producer had the brains to record the warm up song as well and this is where this performance comes from.

It's not from Beat Club I'm afraid - it was filmed in the US in Sept 1969 for a local TV show where they also performed "The Seal of the Seasons". The slate on the performances confirms this. A longer version of this song can be seen on the BBC4 Marc Bolan doc this Friday at 21:00 on BBC4.
The BBC4 doc on Friday DOES have some clips from TOTPs the BBC haven't got - some are the ones that are also seen on the "T Rex on TV" DVD but there is also a performance of "Twentieth Century Boy" which isn't on that DVD which originally comes from the TOTP of 1/3/73, though there are only a few short shots from that. The PR machine seems to have gone into overdrive somewhat because of the lost TOTP - also loads of lost radio interviews with Marc.
Also, for the first time anywhere, there's footage of Marc performing with John's Children - also some other good bits as well as a few short fragments of home movies of Marc's.
There's also going to be a DVD release of a 20 minute longer cut of the DVD with an hour of extras including some T Rex promos which haven't been seen since they were first made, and may never have been seen at all in the UK, as well as Tony Visconti with the original recordings of "Ride a White Swan" and "Jeepster" taking us through the recordings track by track.
And if anyone wants to know how I know all this, it's 'cause I produced the BBC4 prog.
Marc did have a video recorder and also people sent him stuff when he was a tax exile - but the tapes were disposed of when his parents died. ad

Disposed of as in destroyed or just thrown / given away? Seems a mad thing to do if they'd been kept till then.
