not a new clip but a better one youtube.com/watch?v=JWX22rwv9UUand with the orig sound and no scrolling text, the audience sound at the end could mean it's from a complete show or at least a good section of one, the hits of 67 video is of much poorer quality.

Great to see this again, but does anyone know where this clip has come from? Is it part of a full show, or does it exist as a stand alone clip?

Great to see this again, but does anyone know where this clip has come from? Is it part of a full show, or does it exist as a stand alone clip? This comes from a European firm. BNER I think. They also did one with a non timecoded Follow the Bouncing Ball. Presumably Auntie Beeb allowed it as it was mainly going to to be shown in Europe. I reckon the clip survived because the Kinks were really popular in places like Holland. They must have asked the Beeb to send clips which they preserved and the Beeb wiped. The Wonderboy clip has Veronica a Dutch station's logo on it, so there is another clue. I wonder does the Zabadak clip come fromthe same show? There is one instance where they appeared on the same totp.

I have always thought that the "Zabadak" and "Autumn Almanac" clips possibly came from the same show... the 200th edition in late 1967. That would warrant it for possible preservation. As it is, DDDBMT were also big in Europe hence these clips surviving in Euro TV archives.
I do think the Beeb do have "Autumn Almanac". I never saw it on TOTP2 (I never saw them all) but clips did appear in a 1995 BBC documentary on Ray Davies complete with original soundtrack where he is singing a live vocal.

Don't think the BBC have these but (as pointed out) the ident gives a clue to where they may reside if the BBC wanted copies in the archive!!

It is actually a "normal" Pathe pop clip (not from German TV), even though it's from a German screening of it. A nice clip though and good to have two visual versions of this song in existence!
I wonder if the original was in colour? Pathe were shooting pop clips much earlier than this which were not in b/w.

Guys...this clip has been available since the 80's. I have it on a Best Of KINKS official VHS release from about 87 or so, also with that annoying edit but without any German intro.

Yeah..annoying that the Pathe Wonderboy is truncated.. I'm guessing it was always that way? I too have a version (1993 reissue) of the offically-available Kinks video that included this clip.. when the "Wonderboy" TOTP started coming to wider recognition, I remember reading a blog which stated it was the "Only surviving performance" of this song whch got me irritated! Incidentally, the Kinks only performed "Wonderboy" 3 times for film/tv, which means 2 out of 3 of those performances survive. The only missing Wonderboy performance is from "Time For Blackburn" from April 13th '68.

I'm coming to think that the treasure trove of lost clips from 'Time For Blackburn' rivals ANY lost pop tv from that time. :-( Tony is still with us of course. Anyone ever ask him what's in his attic..?

Looks like there's a new Kinks at the BBC box set being released in the summer. 5CD + 1DVD though I can't find the track listing for the DVD as yet.

Sorry guys 'n galls, I meant to post about this two weeks ago! (By the way is there any Galls on here? I hope there is!). Anyway it looks like the rarely seen TOTP's clips of 'Wonderboy', 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Autumn Almanac' and 'Apeman' will be finally seeing the light of day.....hopefully!! 13th of August is the proposed street date of release.
"Documenting their long-lived relationship with the broadcasting titans who have supported them throughout their glittering career, this collection brings together a raft of Kinks' sessions and live recordings -including some previously unreleased - and follows the band's initial steps on the Pye label to their glory days as one of the greatest acts of all time. The DVD features The Kinks sought after appearances on Top of the Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test, as well as other concerts.
The release comes in 5CD/DVD book package in the style of the radio times, annotated session by session and concert by concert by Kinks guru Doug Hinman, as well as a note by Mojos Peter Doggett"

Looks like a good one although I doubt it'll have the TOTP performance of Sunny Afternoon (A Whole Scene Going, maybe). That is, unless someone has turned up the print of it, as opposed to the very very poor VHS copy which is all that currently is known about. I hope i'm wrong though!
