Does anyone know the date this show was recorded and originally transmitted?
I watched it yesterday and couldn't figure it out.
It's interesting to see The Shadows performing on the show as I was of the opinion that they had split up (albeit only temporarily) by the end of 68/ early 69 and I can't figure out who the drummer is. it certainly isn't Brian Bennett.

I think it was broadcast in the very last fortnight of the 60s, hence title.

The programme was shown by the satellite channel UK Arena in the mid 90's I managed to tape the show for my Father at the time and watched it myself yesterday.
I understand that the UK Arena edition was slightly edited and omitted some Beatles stuff as per a previous posting on this site.

Pete
I noticed that a number of The Beatles clips from Pop Goes The 60's are the Shea Stadium clips.
This has reminded me that The Beatles at Shea Stadium hasn't been shown on TV for donkeys years (I remember BBC2 used to show The Beatles films at Xmas) and to the best of my knowledge not available commercially.
I wonder why??

No, Shea Stadium was last seen on TV in 1979. The BBC showed a season of Beatles films (the usual ones plus Shea and Magical Mystery Tour being the only "rarities"). Off-air videos are floating around.
Apple really aren't on the ball with the Beatles archive; they botched the Anthology release in a lot of ways too. If they cared to, they have a vast wealth of footage that would make a series of great DVDs. The amount of visual stuff available of such a famous act is digraceful. Why no Ed Sullivan Shows release (you can get them on a low-key U.S. DVD only!), Shea Stadium, a video greatest hits (with complete versions of songs that were annoyingly truncated in the Anthology), good live concerts such as Melbourne, Sweden, France, the NME pollwinners concerts etc etc? I could go on...

I could go on... To be fair there is a lot (four tracks, I believe) from Shea Stadium on Anthology, considerably more than was on the cut-down TV version. Still no substitute for a full release, though. Also, the complete set of Beatles on Ed Sullivan shows is released properly on October 28th on Region 1 (previously it was some kind of website-only release.) I must say that despite it's flaws the Anthology set is an impressive achievement, and the quality of what's in there more than makes up for the missed opportunities.

Re: Beatles Greatest hits. I have soemtimes wished for a full release of every Beatles promo film. a lot of these are on the Anthologys, but often edited or only in extracts. Here are all the promo videos they made I can think of:
Paperback writer Rain Strawberry fields Penny Lane A Day in the Life Hello Goodbye (several versions) Lady Madonna Hey Bulldog ( similar footage to lady Madonna) Revolution Hey Jude Something
I believe there were some earlier films made for "Dat Tripper" "I feel fine" etc before these. But how many of these films has been granted a full release?

Apparently very poor quality footage of Paperback Writer & Rain from TOTP was available to the producers of the 'Anthology' series, but it was more or less unbroadcastable. The 'dartless' clip of 'Help!' does exist, and was used as a promo film to promote the '1' album in 1999- absolutely pristine print, too!.

....."What was the Cliff Richard film called that the featured song that exists and does anyone have it on video ?" I didnt think anything survived of this first show from new years day 1964? Cliff and Shads contribution was "Dont Talk To Him" i believe, as well as a location film shoot from the Canary Islands where Cliff was shooting his latest flick "Wonderful Life" I too would be intrigued to know if this TOTP insert has survived as you say. It is interesting that in the BFI archives they have a performance of this song (dated 64) which they have listed as from "Russian State Television "(!). But its on a different film format which cannot be viewed and remains unseen now by anybody for 40 years. The BFI say it would be costly to transfer the material. Certainly beyond the financial resources of an individual seeking the transfer. One early historic piece of Cliff Richard footage i DID manage to persuade a television production company to transfer (at great cost) was his only surviving contribution to the "Oh Boy" show in 1959 singing his new single called "Mean Streak." It was included in a 1966 ABC docu entitled "The ABC of ABC" and includes the full performance from an Oh Boy show which is now LOST. (ditched in early 70's) The clip was shown earlier in the year in a Channel 4 docu called "The Real Cliff Richard"... the first time it had ever been seen on tv since 1959! It was good to see a long campaign on my part finally pay dividends. I urge readers with knowledge of other miscellanious unknown archive film to inform tv producers as often as they can. Often these researchers are totally uninitiated in the subjects they are working on... and are only too pleased to speak to fans who can lead them to such untapped treasure troves. All too often they revert to the same old archives for their searches.....BBC etc zzzzzz nb.... i produce a website dedicated to the Oh Boy!" tv series which can be seen at....... www.ohboytvshow.com
