I agree with Harry, "Ace Of Wands" was so inventive; if I had the equipment back then i'd have taped it. Must say that this threads a bit heavy; some punches flying around! Come over to the TOTP and Music forum; it's fun and frolics there as Dubs can confirm! You can can't you dubs ? Dubs! ......DUBS!! Where HAS he got to!?

my apologies for upsetting 'ace of wands' fans. It was really just quoted as an example of the fickle world of TV and music in 1973. The point i was trying to make was that people looked to the future in the 1960/70s they were not interested in the past and this is one reason why so many shows were wiped . In the case of Ace of Wands i am sure (myself included)that we would have looked forward to new episodes as it was good series. However the culture of seeing repeats and wanting to tape something and see it again and again just had not developed in 1973. So this is why the original point of this thread ie persons who say they recorded a whole series of timeslip in 1973 has been questioned.

>> I would be happy to see piles\boxes of 7,000 odd tapes and then so many of us could believe that one hell of a video collection does exist. << www.farcicalfilms.co.uk/tapes/index.htmlA few pictures of the collection I’m currently working my way through – unfortunately not an episode of Timewhatsit or The Golden Shot in sight. All I’ve found so far - which may or may not be missing - are some schools programmes, assorted news reports and an edition of Opportunity Knocks.

A Stunning collection of tapes there. The N1700 machine must be taking a bit of a hammering!!!
Any Timeslips or Monkhouse Golden Shots in colour are likely to be only on N1500, as N1700 I think was not introduced until 75 I think. Correct me if I am wrong there......but of course N1500 tapes may have been copied to N1700 as well.

Though given that people had been recording TV shows off-air on audio tape from - at least - the late-1950s ['Hancock' from c1958/9 being an early example], surely it's only a logical extension that they'd have gone straight on to recording TV onto the next medium along when they had the technology to do so?

Your quite right David, but it took time for that to happen.Quite interestingly and frustratingly was that the first programmes that people started collecting in the 1970s were things like 'Thunderbirds' and feature films which of course is not a lot of use to us now.
I think the mood was that some great archive was looking after these programmes that were not home taped ,and therefore there would be opprtunities to record them in the future, whereas stuff like 'thunderbirds' had been shown so many times it might end up in the dustbin. We know now of course the exact opposite happened.

I've had a chat with Carlton, and they confirm that they have been approached about the colour Timeslips, and they're waiting for viewing copies to arrive.
I asked if they'd specifically banned EP/Jason from providing screengrabs, and they said no.

I asked if they'd specifically banned EP/Jason from providing screengrabs, and they said no. My God somebody actually takes me seriously!!!!! Perhaps I am dreaming...... I never said I had been banned from posting screen shots at all, if you recall, I just pointed out I thought it was not to be done without permission. And thank you for confirming that Carlton have been approached as I originally stated in my posts...(I DO NOT invent things) re TS and The Golden Shot 1974 shows about 3 weeks ago. I had an email from them today actually, but they have however only have been advised of 3 TS colour episodes. being a complete episode 9, and half of episode 15 and 16, which are the only ones which have been recovered so far

This is what I like to see. Excellent work. It must be quite exciting going through all this stuff even if nothing major turns up. It was very exciting at the beginning but having spent months going through approximately half of them, the novelty’s worn off a bit. The frustrating thing is that there are lots of tape boxes with tantalising labels, then when you run the tape you discover the original programme has long since been recorded over. The worst was a box listing a missing episode of HTV’s The Inheritors. I played it, only to discover it had been recorded over with an 80s’ BT promo. Still, it’s great when you do find something “good” – in my case that's old continuity, ads, etc.!

I agree about the frustration, tons and tons of tape and very little to show for it, at least thats the case with audio, when you do get something its usualy a frgament. Still its worth it if you find something

A Stunning collection of tapes there. The N1700 machine must be taking a bit of a hammering!!! I’ve access to two 170X machines – a 1700 and a 1702 (the latter was supposedly optimised to use the longer tapes). The machine in the pictures is a N1502 which is a much nicer machine that the original 1500. I’m still staggered at the picture quality from a well recorded and stored N1500.
