How do we access these montages, Neil? When I go to "files" all I get is "you are not authorized to view this page!

Laurence, I'm surprised you can't view the files as I notice you have joined the group, but I believe other members have had trouble with them too. Keep trying - it'll work eventually. Anyway, the first montage is the same as the one I sent you last year.

I went to the Yahoo web site and clicked on 'Files'. It first of all said 'Your browser is not accepting our cookies. To view this page, please set your browser preferences to accept cookies (code 0)'. I turned on the cookies and right clicked on "Save Target As".
As I did this, I got this message:
Internet Explorer cannot download montage .rm from f4.grp.yahoofs.com.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.
I've tried this several times, and the other montage2.rm also has the same error message.
Clicking on "Save Target As" is apparently the safest way to download files but even if I click on the link itself I get: "You are unauthorised to view this page". Do you or any others know what's causing the above error messages and what we need to do to access the TOTP clips?
PS: I've left a message for you (and Mark Leech) under the Top of the Pops (TV) forum, as Mark tried to contact me and vice versa but technical faults caused lost correspondence and delays in me replying to Mark.

After a quite a few tries, I have managed to download copies of both montages - so I would say, keep trying - it will work eventually. Laurence - as for the contents of Montage 2, not 100% on some dates and performances, but this is my best effort: - B/W 1960s Title Sequence
- Jimmy Savile speech re: Camera Angles (B/W)
- short clip of Beatles - Your Mother Should Know from Magical Mystery Tour followed by short clip of Alan Freeman, Jimmy Savile & Pete Murray. Alan Freeman invites us to watch the film at 8.35 tonight (25/12/67)
- TOTP 1969/1970 Colour Opening Titles - animated Jimmy Savile "Yes, it's No1, its TOTP!"
- BBC Promo of Simon & Garfunkel "Bridge Over Troubled Water" 1970
- Unidenified Pans People Clip (1969?)
- Lulu (don't know song, but set indicates 1970)
- Clodagh Rodgers "Goodnight Midnight" (probably 25/12/69)
- Boris Gardiner "Elizabethan Reggae" (audience dancing 19/2/70)
- Desmond Dekker "You Can Get It If You Really Want It" (audience dancing 10/8/70)
- Closing 1969 Colour Titles
- Archies - Sugar Sugar (audience dancing)
Anyone like to fill in the gaps?

As you've downloaded the montages already, Mark, can you e-mail them to me as attachments? I'm sure I can fill in some of the gaps in your info. My e-mail address is: laurencevegan2@yahoo.co.uk Cheers!

I think the Lulu song is "Hum A Song" from 18/6/70.

Neil - you may be right about the Lulu song. I had a feeling it may be that one.
Laurence - I've sent you the Montages as 2 separate Emails - I am sure you will enjoy watching them - I certainly did!!
Also, I stated the Beatles clip was 25/12/67. However, Magical Mystery Tour was originally shown on Boxing Day which would indicate that the clip comes from the surviving (at the BBC) 26/12/67 edition.
The "Camera Angles" piece may come from 1968, possibily the surviving 15/2/68 edition as going by the clips on Sounds of the Sixties, Jimmy's jumper is the same as this edition.
Not being familiar (unfortunately) with the whole editions in question, I cannot say for definite!!

Very interesting facts are emerging: I've just been going through those montages of missing TOTP material. Here's a list of what I can identify. Can anyone else fill in the rest?
Montage 1: TOTP '69 titles (25/12/69) Jimmy Saville link (?) Montego Bay - Bobby Bloom (10/9/70) ? - Group? (Possibly The Tremeloes) Saville / Murray link (25/12/69) Sandie Shaw - By Tomorrow (5/2/70 - which officially exists only in b/w) Kenny Everett link (? - a later edition ; maybe the surviving studio session from 1973?) Weaver's Answer - Family (27/8/70, repeated 10/9/70) How Can I Be Sure - Dusty Springfield (10/9/70) You Can Get It If You Really Want - Desmond Dekker / audience dancing (10/9/70) Saville link (?) Good Morning Freedom - Blue Mink (12/3/70 - repeated 9/4 and 23/4/70) Mama Told Me Not To Come - Three Dog Night: promo film intersperced with Tony Blackburn & audience dancing (20/8/70) ? - is this either Lou Christie or Joe Dolan? Lily The Pink - The Scaffold (25/12/69) Colour titles (?) The Witch - The Rattles (looks like surviving 15/10/70 show)
Montage 2: The b/w footage is all existing material. But apart from that: TOTP '69 - more of title sequence (25/12/69) Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel - promo film (5/3. 12/3, 19/3, 26/3, 2/4, 9/4 ? - TOTP dancers (?) Hum A Song - Lulu (18/6/70) Clodagh Rodgers - Goodnight Midnight (25/12/69) You Can Get It If You Really Want - Desmond Dekker /(more of audience dancing - 2 clips (10/9/70) TOTP '69 end titles (25/12/69)
All this is clearly missing stuff! Question is, is it from whole editions or has someone kept further compilation reels?
The material seems to be grouped around several specific periods, clearly indicating partial or complete editions existing in colour from these dates:
25/12/69 5/2/70 9/4/70 (alternatively 12/3/70 or 23/4/70), 18/6/70 20/8/70 10/9/70
A few of the clips were repeated on other shows and alternatively so could come from these but the above dates are the most likely (as more material is concentrated in these).
Seemingly to support the existence of the above editions, the "Digging The Dancing Queens" documentary screened a few years ago also featured broadcast quality colour clips of Pan's People dance routines that seemed to also be culled from some of the above dated editions (along with others).
Please step forward whoever you are and let the BBC take a copy of this valuable stuff? We all want to see it again in full. It would make a lot of people happy!

Kenny Everett link (? - a later edition ; maybe the surviving studio session from 1973?)
Depends - if Ken is wearing a country bumpkin's smock and hat and has blacked-out teeth, then yes it's the 1973 session. Is this the only surviving Everett edition? Hope not, he's excellent.
Interestingly at the end of the 1973 tape, Kenny is interviewed by a couple of kids on the TOTP set for another programme - the VT clock says 'Search: Pop' 'Kenny Everitt (sic) Inserts' - does anyone know what this programme was, and whether it survives?
Must try and get those montages to work....

Laurence, I have already posted the complete tracklist for montage 1 on the 'Still Number One' Yahoo group.
By the way, I thought the Blue Mink song was "Our World", but I may be wrong.
