Hi Frank, It's a quarter of an inch. It's just that I'd never seen audio tape of that colour. I have an old reel to reel machine and I'll play it when I recover it from storage. I have the box in front of me and its title is London for Pleasure. The box has a couple of numbers 24-419 on the spine and 213577 on the label if that's any help. Of course, it probably will turn out to be a family recording or something. I'll let you know when I've played it.

it's a pity we can't post photos on here. Is there any more info on the labels? You say it's a BBC label, what sort? Any clues?

There's nothing more really. The box is a white one with a generic looking white label on it with just the words British Broadcasting Corporation which also acts a a seal for the box. The title has been written in what looks like my mum-in-laws handwriting. Apart from the numbers on the spine and label, it has no other identifying marks. The spool itself is a 7" one [400" approx I guess] ant it also has a generic white label [approx 1/2" x 1"] with no writing whatsoever. The earliest I can get my reel to reel player will be next weekend to see what's there. But while I am here. I do have a box of reel to reel tapes [mostly junk] but I do have a couple of recording my dad made in the 60's or maybe early 70's. There is 'The Frank Sinatra Story' & 'The Al Jolson Story'. I have no idea who narrates them. As soon as I have more details, I will post more about them when I have heard them.

you can post pictures I think on the control pannel just above the angry emoticon. unless you mean it's against the forum rules which it may be.
