....and I’ll fight any man (over the internet) that declares the unjustly maligned Silver Nemesis to be a turd because it’s actually a corker (relatively speaking) boasting some ingenious concepts, wonderful characters and a sharp script. So there! I like Nemesis , but not the original TV version ,always go for the VHS extended version ,hoping that they either include that VHS version or have a new extended version on the collection blu ray set (the DVD release of that story was a bit shoddy ) Agreed, and that’s got to be the most obvious ‘Nemesis ‘special feature’ on any future Season 25 boxset as the previous DVD release nonsensically omitted the extended version. Instead the extra footage was relegated to a collection of ‘deleted scenes’. Presumably though the excellent Canadian (?) documentary that also featured on the ‘Nemesis VHS tape hasn’t got a chance of being included? Again, it wasn’t on the subsequent DVD, presumably due to rights issues. P.S. To clarify, I only mentioned ‘Nemesis as it’s one of the very few instances of a ‘Who story where I genuinely don’t understand the fan hate. And there are a lot who dunk on it in my experience. How could they, it’s got Courtney Pine in it for goodness sake!

I find Silver Nemesis is OK, not perfect but gets enough things right to work.
I've heard some fans don't like it when the home releases are different to the original screenings, which explains the extra footage being featured as an extra only.
Will their be an option to watch either the standard or extended version?

And I liked the extra material for The Curse of Fenric.

I was very tempted to import the German DVD release of Nemesis just for that VHS version they included on the release ,but as it was a limited edition it sold out too quick for me to order it

Just watching the newly remastered Mind Of Evil on S8 Bluray boxset and it's absolutely stunning. How they managed to restore it to this level is amazing.Axos is also incredible. These exceptional remasters are making me enjoy these stories all over again. Having been enticed to buy the S24 boxset by the superb series of articles in DWM,I'm still cynical.I haven't even removed the cellophane surrounding it and I've had it for a few weeks already!

I'm no fan of season 24.......I think sky got a lot better in his last season and only really paradise towers stands out as being of note in season 24 but I got it as I have the dvds and am replacing all the others with blu Ray's so may as well keep the book case uniform. And I will so the abundance of extras is great. The hours of raw studio footage doesn't interest me and feels like paddling but the various documentaries and features from other contemporary programs are great. Especially since I was born in 1990 so didn't get to see any of these programs at the time. Crack it open and if nothing else watch the extras and behind the sofas

I came to the Sylvester McCoy era fairly recently. The problem with it seems that the production team are trying to give ALL the characters equal screen time so that the Doctor also comes across as an extra and is sidelined in the narrative. I don't know if this has something to do with JNT trying to employ as many actors as possible to give them work but it seems like it.Not that I don't sympathise with his actions, but it does change the accent somewhat and somehow makes the stories muddled and difficult to follow.

I was very tempted to import the German DVD release of Nemesis just for that VHS version they included on the release ,but as it was a limited edition it sold out too quick for me to order it Oh, yeah, got that one standing right here (and I actually didn't order it at all, I ordered the second of three German Colin Baker Volumes, but my local electronic store got the order wrong and instead delivered one of the copies they still had in their warehouse... Over a year after its release 😅.). They even included two separate discs for Silver Nemesis, the normal one in between the rest of S25 and one with the extended version at the end. It was a release by Pandastorm, a German publisher who nowadays publishes 4th and 5th Doctor stories that were never before dubbed into German on DVD and Blueray (and in some beautiful limited media books). That way you can even get single serials from season 18 or 19 for example on Blueray if for some reason you don't want the entire season box from the UK releases...or really enjoy the German language . Though, Hartnell and Troughton have been picked up by another publisher in Germany, got a Tomb Special Edition with a Frazer Hines autograph that way and Enemy is releasing next week, with the WoF animation being announced for this year as Germany 's first missing Doctor Who animation to be released. ^^

Having now masochistically waded through a fair chunk of the 25 hours of raw unedited footage included with Season 24 I can honestly say I‘ve found it never less than fascinating and insightful. Real ‘fly on the wall’ type stuff.
Certainly Delta and the Bannermen has been a bit of a stand out…if only because the prodigious pyrotechnics employed were so chronically unreliable! Indeed, I’ve sat through multiple takes of gunplay ruined due to the gun props’ explosive charges failing to detonate seemingly two thirds of the time. It’s a wonder anyone involved was left with any patience at all after that story eventually wrapped up!
Regardless, I hope that raw unedited material is included with future season releases in such instances where it still exists. I vaguely recall the closing behind the scenes/outtake montage from 1993’s Doctor Who: Thirty Years in the Tardis documentary being a good indicator (to the otherwise uninformed at least) as to what’s preserved in the archive and thus what we can likely expect in the future…

Working my way through the Season 8 set has been a highlight of this year for sure. Superbly restored and great extras. Really enjoyed watching those stories all in order as well rather than in the past having jumped about a bit as and when the VHS versions were released (I'm a DVD skipper, so have been really enjoying these Blu-Ray sets!) I'd recommend having a look at Season 24 - there are some good bits in there. Great extras as others have said (the enhanced regeneration was good to see, and all the usual Behind the Sofa / Doctors table items). 23 was the one that I ranked lower than this. Hope we get some news soon on the next set!

The Mind Of Evil audio sounds much better especially a section in episode 3 when Mahler goes to fetch Dr Summers to speed up his demands with the Governer that small portion and a few other places sound like different sources or just fresh dubs of the audios as the DVDs were practically the same as the VHS sources. I was surprised the Episode 6 off-air from Tom Lundy both picture and the more importantly the audio were considered redundant it would have been a nice surprise even as it's own extra seens it is partial clips. oh well can't win them all.

Watching The Daemons again via the recently released Season 8 Blu Ray I was reminded of a question I had meant to ask before: What’s the reason for omitting the excellent 1993 ‘Return to Devil’s End’ reunion/documentary by Reeltime Pictures from the set?
After all it seems like such an obvious inclusion despite not being owned or produced by the BBC of course. Possibly the cost of securing the rights was considered prohibitive or else it was somehow deemed to be superfluous perhaps?
Regardless, given the wealth of interviews et al produced by Reeltime with ‘Who alumni, many of them long since deceased, it’s a shame this valuable surfeit of archive material can’t be incorporated in these ‘Collection sets…

Reeltime have only fairly recently released Return to Devil's End on DVD and download for the first time. There would be very little reason why they would be interested in selling the rights for a third party to use it and kill their own revenue stream in the process.

I love the Reeltime releases and am slowly buying the volumes that interest me.For people who don't want to buy every single blu-ray collection, they're really worth investing in instead.Return to Devil's End and subsequent documentaries have been released on the superb White Witch of Devil's End boxset starring Damaris Haymen. It really is a fantastic release and well worth buying. And rare interviees such as the late Jackie Lane have also been recorded by Reeltime.
