If, as expected, the lifting of the final Covid-19 restrictions in England is going to be delayed that will still give us something to look forward to in June.

Amazon now confirmed as well. Oh well, only a week later. ....I still feel I’m practically the only one that’s actually looking forward to acquiring Season 24 and the promised 25 hours of behind the scenes footage! I optimistically attribute my enthusiasm to nostalgic affection rather than inherent bad taste... You are not alone. I love S23-26 despite their flaws and I'm ridiculously excited about the extras on this set. Thank goodness for that. With the relentless negativity surrounding this release I was beginning to think otherwise! Season 24 is perhaps ultimately a season of two halves - the latter two stories being arguably superior to the former with the only outright stinker being Paradise Towers. “Ice hot” it is certainly not. Presumably though the new extras will once again afford Andrew Cartmel the futile opportunity to convince us all that ‘Towers is somehow an under-appreciated gem! The rest though, in spite of McCoy’s meandering, disjointed performance, are fairly enjoyable for what they are with the final story, Dragonfire, being pretty good really. I also harbour an unashamed affection (infused with strong nostalgic memories) for Delta’, though concede that the reasons cited by many fans as for why it’s a dud are fully justified! The impending Season 24 blu ray seems to be first ‘Collection release in a while that hasn’t sold out in pre-order (at least at the time of typing and going by Amazon) though that’s hardly a surprise given it’s dubious reputation I suppose...

Same here - I'm looking forward to this set and seeing all the stories again. And what an amazing amount of extras! Can't knock it!

No I can't leave that comment there how can you say paradise Towers is the outright stinker in a season that contains Time and the Rani? That story has not one single redeemable feature in my view and along with the greatest show in the galaxy the only who I think I wont bother giving another viewing on the blu ray. Where as paradise towers may not be a tomb or and evil or even a cave of androzani theres loads to love in it. The actual idea is brilliant (highly recommend high rise its chilling). The kangs slang is a bit grating and derivative of lord of the flies but I get what they were going for even if they miss the mark. I think the cleaners ad pool robots designs are great and has an ace but contemporary sound track. Come to think of it paradise towers is my stand out favourite of the season. I find early ace's dialogue far more irritating and badly written than the kangs not to mention that awful episode 1 literal cliff hanger. Either way I'm looking forward to giving the extras a watch but if you haven't seen paradise towers in a while give it a fresh veiw

Maybe the standard edition release series might be a reason ,can't see many scalpers wanting to buy up the stock for fleecing fans in the future if a re-release is on the cards

Kate O’Mara doing her best (or indeed worst) Bonnie Langford impersonation remains moderately more tolerable by comparison. Just. Either way, let’s sagaciously adhere to fan tradition and simply blame JNT for all of the above (justly so in this instance ironically).

That said, the hundreds previously demanded on the secondary market for certain, long sold out seasons should be now be at an end. No, it’s definitely Season 24’s poor reputation, as evidenced by attitudes on this very thread, that’s predominantly holding it back from being an automatic purchase for many fans.

From my point of view I doubt I’ll buy anything after Season 21 as I just can’t see myself wanting to watch it.

Am I the only one here who likes most of Sylvester McCoy's run?

Am I the only one here who likes most of Sylvester McCoy's run? No but character-wise he really is all over the shop in his first season, consistently failing to truly define his Doctor’s persona until arguably Dragonfire. This can of course largely be attributed to the behind the scenes chaos that permeated Season 24 and thankfully McCoy puts in far more convincing performances in his remaining seasons. It’s obviously no coincidence that the writing vastly improves thereafter as well. It really is a pity that McCoy’s tenure ended with Season 26 as Doctor Who, after years of stagnation and creative ossification, was getting genuinely good again (and that’s in spite of JNT’s continued ‘creative’ input ). Unfortunately by 1989 nobody outside of fandom noticed or, in the BBC’s case, cared. ....and I’ll fight any man (over the internet) that declares the unjustly maligned Silver Nemesis to be a turd because it’s actually a corker (relatively speaking) boasting some ingenious concepts, wonderful characters and a sharp script. So there!

You get no argument from me, Matt, on Nemesis. Not perfect, but a corker indeed!

So there! I have to admit it was a high point, (but of course all these things are relative).

So there! I like Nemesis , but not the original TV version ,always go for the VHS extended version ,hoping that they either include that VHS version or have a new extended version on the collection blu ray set (the DVD release of that story was a bit shoddy )
