Are people enjoying the S20 set? Was glad to get mine delivered on Monday and have enjoyed going through the first disk. Since they started these sets, I have not rewatched episodes from seasons yet to be released so it feels nice and fresh watching on BluRay! Great set packed with lots of goodies. This era was mine as a kid - earliest memory was S18’s Keeper of Traken, so this lead up to the 20th anniversary would have seen me in “full fan mode”! Its fab looking back on it. Bring on the next announcement hey! Ha ha! I’ve got mine and enjoyed the 40th anniversary version of the Five Doctors 👍 We’re two months away from the 60th, plenty of time for more announcements 👍 At some time there should be details of what Auntie’s doing. Surely there’ll be a documentary?

I was surprised and perhaps slightly disappointed to read from Season 20’s accompanying booklet that the new CGI effects for Enlightenment were only in standard definition.
I don't recall any previous story from the ‘Collection range afforded the same CGI treatment specifying this so were they all in HD? If so then presumably budgetary constraints meant some corners had to be cut for the final part of the Black Guardian trilogy…

I hope I’m wrong but I fear you’re being a little too optimistic John with the window for announcing some surprise 60th anniversary gem for release this year now arguably passed. Indeed we’re (almost) a paltry three months away from Christmas and with money tight for everyone at the moment most wouldn’t have the spare cash to fork out for some unexpected, belatedly announced anniversary treat. A fact not lost on the Beeb I’m sure. Again, hope I’m wrong but I suspect nothing else is coming now, bar that dubious Underwater Menace animation of course. Give me strength.

What's dubious about it? Can't be worse than the last underwater menace release. I've been away with work all week so not had a chance to indulge in season 20. I'm going to save the 4oth anniversary for the 60th in November as I've no interest in what ever new who does for it. Shame there isn't another 5ish doctors but oh well. I can see something else getting announced around the 20th but with a late Dec early January release I reckon this and underwater menace will be all we get in our hands in 2023. I would love to be wrong but as much as it is the 60th, there's the season 1-4 new who blu ray HD upscale release season 20 and underwater menace.....thats a lot Saturation and a lot of deep pocket asking for fans at a certain point they will harm one if these releases sales with too many sets too quickly. Would love to be wrong but that's my take on it.

Either the BBC and RTD have between them, been keeping very tight-lipped about celebrations for the 60th or there really isnt very much. The 50th benefitted enormously from the found episodes which helped whip up the excitement. We knew we had the Adventure In Time and Space drama coming, also that a lot of normal TV shows were doing little Who related episodes. There was so much excitement. Im not feeling any of this , this time around. Im very underwhelmed by the Underwater Menace release...aside from Timelash or the Gunfighters, all similarly non favourite episodes, the BBC couldnt have found anything less exciting if they tried. Im sure the finished product will be fine but it could have been released at any time. They have had ten years to think of something amazing. The new season 1-4 celebrates new WHO, and has had endless releases. Im hoping they really do have something up their sleeves or its going to be a very lack lustre event.

Story-wise The Wheel in Space is by far the better candidate for animation. Yes, it would’ve obviously cost more given it’s a six parter but this would’ve been partly mitigated by the fact that’s it’s a Cybermen story making it a more commercially viable prospect overall. It’s a shame then the necessary funds couldn’t be secured/allocated because that leaves us with, in this milestone year, a second ‘stab’ at a release that was botched the first time round! Too exciting… In fact, even the much maligned ‘ Space Pirates might’ve been the superior option all things considered. No Cybermen or Daleks of course but it would’ve at least technically completed Season Six making it a suitable release in ‘the Collection series. Would be good to have the second Doctor finally represented…

So lucky as fans to have all this new stuff being made available to us! Yes, can’t wait to get to the new version of the Five Doctors! Also looking forward to Peter, Janet and Sarah’s trip to Amsterdam! Heard fun things about that one!

So just eaten my way through the season 20 box set. What a feast. I also discovered I have never seen he original non special edition of the 5 doctors!!! Being born in 1990 and bot having qccess to UK gold for repeats I as at the mercy of the few tapes I got a year for birthday and Christmas and whatever the local blockbuster stocked. To me it was a missing episode. My original vhs tape was the one that came with kings demons and the postcard book, and the dvd only had the special edition. Just watching the 40th which is also fantastic and definitely what I'm going to screen with my other nerdy friends to celebrate the 60th.
Quick question between the praise. Is there a way to watch the original special edition? Just one day I might get nostalgic and want to relive being 5 years old again. Is it a setting you can adjust on one of the 5 doctors disks maybe?

You've answered it. I thought disk 9 was just special extras. Thanks

Just saw a review on YouTube if someone that went into see TUWM at the bfi. They are generally very positive about it and said that at the Q and A afterwards they confirmed they had a list of other animations to do. And someone also asked I'd the animations would be on the collections when they are available and they said they would. I always assumed they would but its nice to hear it from someone attached to the projects say so. Of course its 3rd part information but it's nothing overly sensational so I've got no personal reason to disbelieve it. If anyone here was at the building event any confirmation would be nice. youtu.be/0wWqyqfGyKI?si=C79y79zbxeYpGi5w is the link if anyone's interested, the presenters are a bit cringe but clearly enthusiastic, they talk about the Q and A about 14.30

I think the most exciting and anticipated release must be The Daleks Masterplan animation, preferably as a stand-alone boxset. The sheer number of episodes and extras would make a remarkable addition to the animations-as long as it's done properly of course!
