Episode Thirteen of The Doctor Who Missing Episodes podcast, with Steven Schapansky (Radio Free Skaro) and Jon Preddle (Broadwcast.org). The War Machines! This is certainly one for anyone who's interested in film bicycling and how certain stories ended up being sold overseas. Hats off to Jon for all his dedicated research. Enjoy! linktr.ee/missingeps_podNothing improves a wet and grey Monday morning where I'm expected to attend a sodden sports day like finding out there's a brilliant new podcast to listen to

The War Machines is one of my personal favourites from the Hartnell era and superbly produced by Michael Ferguson. It seems to be a precursor of the later Unit era with some excellent location filming, later to be used again in The Mind of Evil.DOC..TOR..WHO..ISSS..RE..QUIRED..! Sorry, couldn't resist and can't wait to hear the podcast!

Made for a fantastic listen, thank you! Some great new insights and detective work revealed (which I won't spoil for those who've not yet heard). Myself I'm still not convinced the Singapore films went back to the UK, and am hoping they weren't destroyed, pending discovery one day.

Made for a fantastic listen, thank you! Some great new insights and detective work revealed (which I won't spoil for those who've not yet heard). Myself I'm still not convinced the Singapore films went back to the UK, and am hoping they weren't destroyed, pending discovery one day. Singapore is a small, densely populated island which makes real estate expensive. I suspect the broadcaster has moved at least once over the last half century. Obvious reasons are the changeover from b&w to colour and, possibly, analogue to digital. I’m sure I’ve previously asked about 16mm collectors in Singapore - but without much success. When you move location things go in the skip - I’ve got the T shirt! We know prints were “acquired” from Auntie’s destruction pile and ended up with collectors - presumably because the magpie(s) knew they were desirable. About the only reason for “rescuing” prints in Singapore would be because, like in the UK, they were desirable - but were they desirable in Singapore?

Keep an eye on the podcast feed as overnight I'll be releasing a fascinating interview with Paul V (of this parish) and two film collectors, John Clancy and John Franklin: on the agenda is film collecting, the prevalence of TV on film, secrecy and some detail about an extremely interesting film collectors event in October. I will publish it here of course, but it takes a while to get it posted everywhere.
I've already recorded an interview about the podcast which will go out on Radio Free Skaro on Sunday.

The Doctor Who Missing Episodes Podcast - Special Edition - A Conversation With Film Collectors linktr.ee/missingeps_podSince private collector Terry Burnett returned two episodes in 2011 and the announcement in 2013 of nine episodes found in Nigeria, to date, no further missing episodes have been returned, even though episodes are known to exist in private hands. So, as they’re the most viable option for further Doctor Who missing episode returns in the future, it’s time to talk film collectors. TV producer and missing episodes expert Paul Vanezis, along with well-connected and established film collectors John Clancy and John Franklin join Tim for a frank and colourful discussion on the hobby of film collecting and the film collecting community. What is film collecting? Why do people collect film? Is there much interest in TV on film and how much of it is about? How did material make its way from copyright holders into collections? What is the size and state of film collecting today as a hobby? What are attitudes like about secrecy? Are film collectors deliberately hoarding missing episodes? The truth is probably more complicated than you think… We learn that many collections are tragically ending up in landfill on a regular basis, so what can be done about that? One solution, being worked on by the panel, is to hold a film collectors’ event and we get to learn all about October’s “Film is Fabulous” and what that might reveal…

A very exciting initiative being spearheaded by Paul and the Johns, to link collectors with archives. Fascinating interviews and a great cast Tim.
