Decades of local New York and New Jersey television home taped. Dumped by Mother. Im curious who this person is. I have a collection of tv shows on video going back to 1979. Many are only existing copies. Many with original commercial I wanted to share them with anyone who would get them digitized them and shared. No one cared enough. They are probably deteriorating but still something should be done

My guess is an incomplete Marco Polo is referred to rather than any Troughton.

My guess is an incomplete Marco Polo is referred to rather than any Troughton. I’ve always been curious as to why Marco Polo was mentioned in the same breath as Web & Enemy in the rumours that were probably based on the leaks that caused all the grief before the big announcement. There’s always been the thing about Web 3 going missing “with something else” which has, to my knowledge never been revealed. Total speculation but could an orphan episode of Marco been the something else that went walkies? That would be a real shame if other episodes of the serial have been found since & could also explain the reluctance to name further recoveries potential or otherwise.

Marco Polo is a perennial favourite for the rumour mill as it was very widely sold. Orphans tend to come back from collectors, complete stories came back from TV stations.

Yeah, if a collector somehow had all 7 episodes of Marco Polo then they've sourced them from a TV station themselves. The chances of gaining all episodes of a 7-parter from sourcing through multiple collectors would be unfathomably low.

A rare examples where the rumours give a toss about actual likeliness and probability, then! I suppose it's possible someone bribed their way into Marco Polo 1 and 2 or something like that.

Not in all cases, there have been examples of individual episodes coming back from TV stations such as, IIRC the orphan Celestial Toymaker episode from Australia, but I get what you are saying John. Of course it would be nice is we knew what the something else was that went missing along with Web 3, but not much chance of that anytime soon I suspect.

That’s the exception that proves the rule 😇 Where was it said that something else went missing with WoF3? I don’t recall PM stating that he found anything more than Enemy and Web in Jos.

Phil's original version of events (white lie) was that WOF3 was never present. However, a year or so (I think) after Web & Enemy had been released, he did a couple of Q&A sessions (I still have these saved) in which he revealed the true story behind why WOF3 was not returned. He did say that the Jos station manager snaffled another tape alone with WOF3 that he'd earmarked for safekeeping, the identity of which he wasn't willing to reveal at that time. Would be nice if Phil were to now confirm what this tape was, and whether he believes that it ended up with the same collector. Certainly if I were at a Q&A session with Phil, this would be a question high on my list to ask.

Complete stories have come back from Nigeria and the other two possibilities were Wheel and Snowmen.

Seems that it was likely something of significance but not necessary Who, especially with it being a single tape.

I heard that Part 4 of the Celestial Toymaker survived because it was accidentally filed as a cricket game because of it's title "The Final Test", though it could be an urban myth.
