Dear All
Here are 2 more titles in an in-depth view...
09 Fasten Your Seatbelts! BBC Television 15/9/61 Johnny Ray, Janie Marden (missing)
Here is the Radio Times entry for that Friday night
20.30 - 21.00 pm A journey into entertainment with Johnny Ray, Janie Marden, Leslie Crowther, Rosita, Martin Roberts, The Denny Bettis Dancers, BBC Northern Dance Orchestra Directed by Bernard Herrmann. From the North
Information is scant about this show, can anyone add anything about it please, perhaps songs?
11 Just Trad With A Twist Granada Television 17/1/62 Chubby Checker, Chris Barber and many more
ITV have confirmed they currently do not hold anything for this Show.
This was an episode of Personal Appearance, Wednesday 17 January 1962 8-9 pm. The full line-up was: Chris Barber's Jazz Band, Ronnie Scott, Ottillie Patterson, Betty Smith, The Viscounts, Tommy Whittle, Linda Scott, Chubby Checker - Huckleberry, Let's Twist, The Fly, Terry Lightfoot and his New Orleans Jazzmen, The Galliards, Kathy Stobart, The Back O' Town Syncopaters, The Original Downtown Syncopaters, Peter Knight and his Orchestra. Introduced by Gary Marshal(l), and directed by Philip Casson.
Need some advice on the songs above listed as sang by Chubby Checker! Did Chubby ever do a number called Huckleberry? He did The Hucklebuck released in October 1960 Let's Twist, is that Let's Twist Again, or did he do another number called Let's Twist? The Fly seems to be okay, as that was released in November 1961.
The day this show went out, Wednesday 17 January 1962, Chubby Checker on that day was at Melbourne Festival Hall with Bobby Rydell, Del Shannon and Sabrina on a Twist tour of Australia, so was Just Trad With A Twist, pre-recorded for later transmission, or were the 3 numbers performed by Chubby Checker, taken from US Television shows, Chubby was a regular on American Bandstand and he also had the film out Don't Knock The Twist, in which he performed The Fly. Linda Scott is also named in the line-up above for Just Trad With A Twist. Linda was a young American pop singer. Was Linda on tour here? Linda was also in Don't Knock The Twist, singing her hit "Yessirree". Or was this film much later in 1962, beyond Just Trad With A Twist?
Let's take a look at some of the other names in the line-up above. The Galliards were an English folk quartet formed in 1960 by Jimmie MacGregor (vocals, guitar) and Robin Hall (vocals) with MacGregor's wife Shirley Bland joining in on vocals and Leon Rosselson adding his guitar and voice, as well as his arranging skills to the combo. Betty Smith was one of Britain's best tenor-saxophone players. The Viscounts were a British pop group from London. They also did some trad jazz. In 1961, their single Who Put The Bomp reached number 21 in the UK chart, spending ten weeks in the listings. The group toured with Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran, as well as sharing a stage with The Beatles in 1963 opening for Chris Montez. Tommy Whittle was a British jazz tenor saxophonist. Kathy Stobart was an English jazz saxophonist. The Back O' Town Syncopaters wre a Scottish trad jazz band. They recorded a single of the Steptoe & Son theme and appeared on Disc-A-Go-Go with Joe Brown, Duffy Power and Sheila Southern. The Downtown Syncopaters. Check these out with the search term... Downtown Syncopaters AKA Original Downtown Syncopaters (1962) up will come footage 3.58 minutes, worth watching for the footage of that time.
To perhaps help trace some of Just Trad With A Twist, here are some of the numbers featured in the Show "Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight"; "My Old Kentucky Home"; "The Dark Town Strutters Ball"; "Muskrat Ramble"; "A Tavern In The Town". Can anyone say which of the Line-up above would have performed these in this Show please?

Chubby Checker was in the UK for eight days in December, 1961 for interviews and TV appearances (no live shows) - recorded "Trad With a Twist" in Manchester on 15th December; "Thank Your Lucky Stars" on 17th (screened 30th December); and "Here and Now" on 19th (screened 29th December) - I would imagine the songs he performed would have been 'The Hucklebuck' and 'Let's Twist Again'. Linda Scott's big hit was 'I've Told Every Little Star' during the summer of that year - she also appeared on "It's Paul Anka" (Granada) 3rd January, 1962 which appears to have been taped several months previously on 24th August, 1961. The film "Don't Knock the Twist" was a 1962 release, the sequel to 1961's "Twist Around the Clock"

Jimmie MacGregor and Robin Hall are proud Scots. They enjoyed considerable success as a duo in the 1960s with their appearances on the BBC Tonight early evening news magazine programme.Robin is no longer with us but Jimmie is still around aged 89.

I remember watching Alan Stivell at Uni around 1975. He is much more than a standard folk singer. He blends Breton and Celtic themes into wondrous soundscapes and was responsible for helping to revive interest in Celtic music at that time. He's not bad at folk rock as well and is still going strong.

Dear All
The Thread Title has changed to Another 35 Pop Shows Missing?
as
No 42 Twist! BBC Television 7/7/62 - 11/8/62
TV Brain says the first 5 episodes are completely missing, but for the last episode, 11 August 1962, one or more sequences exist, but the complete programme is lost.
Yet while we are here, let's take an in-depth look at Twist!, as it may help to locate further footage.
This pop show series was produced by Johnnie Spence and hosted by David Jacobs. It was launched as a summer filler show for late night Saturdays, attracting an unusually adult audience considering the dance's teenage origins. Each week two teams of twisters from popular BBC TV shows would compete for a trophy, judged by a different pair of celebrities each week. In addition, two or three singers would appear each week. Tony Osborne and his Orchestra and another band led by Don Lang were the resident bands. Also seen as Twist! Music With A Beat. An extract from the final show is thought to be all that exists from the series. (Unless you know or can find out differently?).
Here are the Radio Times edition Television Listings

No 21 Ray Charles BBC TWO 7/2/69 50 minutes 20.25 - 21.15 pm
The following link discusses this concert in some detail
Ray Charles Video Museum
Ray Charles Video Museum The Ray Charles Video Museum is a research project, documenting live performances by The Genius.
Just in cast the link doesn't work, here is the opening, without the photographs of the show and the bbc cameras... The Ray Charles BBC-2 Spectacular (1968) After landing in London on 20th September, the group went straight to the BBC Centre to record a "BBC-2 spectacular in colour". One of the articles in Melody Maker, mysteriously called it " a double show" [perhaps to be broadcast in two parts]. Looking at the photos (cf below) the BBC program was a static-in-studio concert, without audience. The setlist may have been similar to anything between the Ed Sullivan Show's ( on 4 August, 1968 and the La Pleyel concert's (on October 8, 1968)

Thread now changed to 32 Pop Shows Missing? as per this kind reply from Tony Rees ...
Dear all,
Sorry to take so long in getting back to you regarding this one. Thanks for spotting it! Scottish TV's 'The Record Breakers' has not been listed in any newspaper I've seen, so I must have seen it in one of the music papers. So I've been through everything from that era and I also came up with nothing. So I must have seen it mentioned in The Stage which I no longer have access to. I did have pdfs of all the relevant pages from 1955 - 1979, but I lost them! I 'recovered' them, but they're useless.
However, I noticed that there was a show called 'The Record Makers' broadcast by Scottish in June 1978, so maybe The Record Breakers was a pilot version? The BBC kids show The Record Breakers began broadcasting in 1972, so I can't understand why Scottish would use the same name.
I'll remove the two entries for The Record Breakers - Lena Zavaroni 11th April 1978 and Linda Lewis 14th April 1978 from the 1978 diary, so there's one less for you to find!
news.google.com/newspapers is a good research tool - I found the Glasgow Herald and the Glasgow Evening Times there. I'm sure there are others to be found on line too.
Thanks once again!
