But are you sure williammcgregor because in you post you state next to the programme listing "( no holding ) which to me indicates that it is acknowledged in their listings but they do not hold a copy." Hi Nigel, It is the Series On The Road that exists at the BFI, with 3 episodes held and 2 not currently shown as being held, which is why the thread title total has been reduced. It is the same as Thirsty Boots, This And That and others, where only one has been located, yet other episodes of that Series remain missing. If an episode or clip is located for a series, which we are not sure exists, then something of the Series has been found and now known to exist. This thread is designed to locate something of a pop show, be it a one-off special or a series. Cheers

No 30 Star Rider Thames Television 30 June 1977 Steve Hillage Hyde Park 1976
Star Rider was a 13 - part concert series directed by Lindsey Clennell.
Lindsey lives in New York and has been contacted to ask if he could say if Star Rider was a Thames Television Production or an independent made series. Lindsey has been very kind and informative and has agreed to let his replies be posted on the forum...
It was independently produced for the record company, Virgin I think, who possibly gave the shows away, as record companies did with music videos, to promote record sales. Steve Hillage was in Hyde Park, Be Bop Delux in a theater I think. Most likely the mobile video facilities company was Trillion. They would have handled the edit as well. So most likely they would have held the master edit - copies would be sent for transmission by Thames and possibly others. I hope this is of some help, Very best regards, Lindsey Lindsey Clennell
I have no problem with you and others using my information regarding past productions. I hope all goes well with your project Very best regards, Lindsey Lindsey Clennell

I’ve found out a bit more about ‘Star Rider’. I've looked at listings and it seems there were only 7 episodes. Apparently, the edition featuring Be Bop Deluxe (14th April 1977) exists on VHS. The band’s guitarist, Bill Nelson, has a poor-quality copy of this. I saw this mentioned in a thread on the forum of www.billnelsonmusic.comI also found out that Eddie and the Hot Rods appeared on an episode of ‘Star Rider’. This was recorded at the Rainbow Theatre, London, in early 1977 and it was broadcast on 12 July 1977. A few years ago, Cherry Red Records released a CD/DVD pack by Eddie and the Hot Rods called “Live at The Rainbow 1977”. The film on the DVD was shot in March 1977 and it is mentioned on Lindsey Clennell’s website. I think it’s very likely that the DVD contains an extended cut of the ‘Star Rider’ episode. A couple of segments are on Youtube. The episode featuring Kevin Coyne (21 April 1977) is on YouTube under the title 'An Evening with Kevin Coyne (and Andy Summers)'. The audio for the Streetwalkers episode (26 July 1977) can be heard at http://www.familybandstand.com

Kidd seems to have appeared on Disc Break on July 8th 1959. He was apparently accompanied by two of the Pirates, Alan Caddy and Tony Doherty. I can find no evidence he appeared in September 1959 - this date seems to stem from an error in NME Lifelines column which a year or so later gave his TV debut as Sept 59. As his Please Don't Touch follow up didn't come out till late Nov / early December 1959 I do not believe he appeared on the show in September - he had no record to promote. It would certainly seem highly unlikely and I can find no contemporary report that he did appear in September 1959 other than the later NME Lifelines which I have to assume is a mistake that gained credence through repetition.
The July 8th date I gave comes from NME a week or two before the broadcast. Some written material states that he appeared on Record Round-Up on that July 8th date but a look through TV listings shows otherwise. I have some more artist appearance dates for the show but not handy I'm afraid. It would seem likely that the A-side of the current / newest release would be played. I think (but can't say 100%) that performances were mimed rather than live. The story told about Kidd and The Pirates is that the whole 7 piece group couldn't be accommodated in the studio so only Kidd, Caddy and Doherty got to appear.

Disc Break 1959 (all taken from from NME) songs given in brackets where known. I believe the artists all mimed to records.
NOTE - No mention of a show on 19th September on ATV London. There was a party political broadcast at 10pm followed by a film at 10.20pm. No mention of Disc Break in that day's Daily Mirror. This contradicts William's info above but appears solid. What was your source for that one William ?
24 June - Marty Wilde, David Whitfield, Bert Weedon, Glen Mason, Frank Chacksfield, Jo Sheldon, The Jazz Couriers
1 July - NME first reported as - Dickie Valentine, lita Roza, Tony Osbourne, Norrie Paramor, Eddie Calvert. Tony Brent, Alan Clare Trio (Brent and Calvert initially announced but shifted to 8th July), Ruby Murray. Cast subsequently changed to - Ruby Murray, Don Lang, Joanne Scoon, Dickie Valentine, Norrie Paramor, Alan Clare Trio
8 July - Lonnie Donegan, Petula Clark (orig. booked for 15th), Valerie Masters, Frank Cordell, Eddie Calvert, Acker Bilk, Tony Brent, Johnny Kidd (Please Don't Touch). (Donegan or whole show pre-recorded 5th). Kidd appeared with only two of his Pirates apparently - Alan Caddy and Tony Doherty who were lead and rhythm guitar respectively.
15 July (rec.12th) - Jackie Dennis, Tony Osborne. (Petula Clark originally announced for this week but moved to 8th July). Perhaps Dennis moved to 22nd as per the following FROM WILLIAM"S NOTE ABOVE confirmed via Daily Mirror - Anne Shelton Ronnie Hilton Sheila Buxton Tony Osborne, Diz Dizley's String Quintet
22 July - Ronnie Carroll, The Lana Sisters, Jackie Dennis, Duffy Power, Ray Ellington and Mick Mulligan
29 July - Cliff Richard (Living Doll). Lita Roza, Valerie Masters. Johnny Lee, The Raindrops, The Jazzmakers and George Melachrino - also Ronnie Ross (he may have been a member of The Jazzmakers?)
5 August - Don Lang, Al Saxon, Johnny Gentle, Rose Brennan, Pat Dodd, The Bert Courtley Jazz Quartet
12 August - Russ Hamilton, Joe Henderson, Betty Miller,
19 August - Ronnie Carroll, Lorie Mann, Bobbie Britton, The Polka Dots, Malcolm Lockyer

29 September - Dickie Valentine, Tony Raymond, Ken Morris, Carmen Dragon
6 October - Cliff Richard (Travelling Light), Miki and Griff, Malcolm Vaughan, Dennis Lotis, Humphrey Lyttelton, Roy Sone. Ray Ellington was originally scheduled but couldn’t take part in the end. He re-booked for 20th. Show apparently recorded Monday so Cliff could take part unless that was just his segment ? William also has Eddie Hickey listed above.
13 October - Desmond Lane, Dorothy Squires (mentioned as booked for 11th which presumably was recording date but may not have appeared in the show in the end), Eddie Calvert, Lorne Lesley, David Macbeth, Al Saxon, Roy Castle

Disc Break
Jack Parnell, brother of ATV's Val Parnell, introduced a host of acts out to plug their new releases.
According to the Daily Mirror each week Jack will introduce an old song which has been re-recorded, a record prediction, and a leading cartoonist will draw an interpretation of a hit record.
Although no complete shows are thought to have survived, a trailer featuring Jack Parnell does exist.
Where or who would hold that trailer now?

No 33 Sugar Beat BBC Television 16/9/60 Kenny Lynch, The Brook Brothers, Sheila Southern (missing)
Here is the Radio Times entry Friday 16 September 1960 BBC Television 19.30 - 20.00 pm
The sweetest of old and new popular music presented in the modern manner. Introducing Sheila Southern, Paul Handford, Ray Noon, Kenny Lynch, Sandra Gale, The Brook Brothers and Danny Martin with your host Paul Carpenter and The Sounds of Sugar Beat directed by Johnnie Spence. Production: Russell Turner.
This series was originally due to succeed Tempo '60, beginning 5th August at 7.30 pm, but the late-night Music for Moderns appeared instead. Talking to Disc magazine, the show's producer Russell Turner said "Sugar Beat" is to be a fast moving show, I am not seeking another 'new sound'. "I intend to produce a distinctive one, with the appeal on quality, both in the numbers selected and the musicians". " I will use the world's greatest standards and the best of the current pops. The orchestration will consist of eighteen pieces, fronted by Johnnie Spence, and I will include two vocalists, Paul Handford, who has recently signed to Parlophone, and Sheila Southern". "At present, I do not intend to regularly use any guest artists, but top stars may be invited from time to time. My basic aim is to try and create my own stars from the series". Talking to Disc magazine about the show's delay he later admitted "because the new, original sound which we wanted has not yet been found". Hosted by Paul Carpenter, it seemed to rely on unknowns, but it did feature Kenny Lynch. It was intended to be a series, but got no further than a one-off, possibly a broadcast pilot. How was this broadcast pilot received? does anyone have access to any reviews made in the press please?

I recall there's a rather long hold at the end where Jack just sits there looking increasingly awkward.
