Yours. Perhaps it's "avast!"? Meanwhile, @staff, I do occasionally find a weird new browser window opening while on this forum. Is that supposed to happen?

Hmm. I am running avast, but it isn't reporting anything for that site. I also would not expect it to block an entire site - particularly since I *am* blocking adverts anyway - and the Firefox error being reported is that the connection was reset by the remote server, not me.

I'm getting it blocked here too... 'Threat has been detected.' I use Avast and also block ads. I've had this from a couple of other sites that I visit very often and for years. I assumed that it's because someone has reported the site (or something contained on it) in error, as I've always found they're ok again after a short time.

I'm definitely not seeing anything like that - Firefox reports a 'connection was reset' error; IE just reports that it is unable to load the site, no reason given. Avast's own logs show no evidence that it's done anything at all - in fact, having just checked, I don't have its web-filter enabled anyway.
Very strange...

Virus! Virus!
I see that the BFI definitely refer to the two episodes being "a significant discovery earlier this year".

An interesting detail on the BFI page for the December event: It says they are "complete save for a few minutes in each case". So they are not pristine copies. Well, at some point we will no doubt hear the story of how they came to be in Frost's attic.

Yes, it was initially reported as two complete episodes. I wonder what (and how much) of each is missing?

Perhaps they came back from somewhere, it was exported to Ireland, Hong Kong, and Australia after all. Clever editing + off-air audio can make up for missing bits of course. There are several cases of that in Doctor Who so I hope they will eventually do that to S2E6 too.

As they were in the Frost collection, I'd guess they aren't recoveries from foreign sales but copies which have always resided with him (although how bits went missing is another question - possibly he snipped segments out for some kind of specific purpose a long time ago?). I expect we shall find out eventually!

I expect we shall find out eventually! Oh, I meant that prints that had been used and damaged may have come back to him. In any case, he didn't just take the master copy. If that is the case, then the missing clips might be exactly the ones recovered in Australia and some at the BBC. (I once discovered a case like that with an episode of Animal, vegetable, mineral?.) And that would apply only to S1E1 then. If only they'd listen to me!

That's a good point! You should maybe speak to Dick Fiddy about this. It's always worth the effort if there's a remote chance of something being retrieved in this way.

More news. Despite my earlier guess, it now appears that these copies actually ARE home made films after all. There was some sort of equipment to do this and it isn't even the first case of episodes surfacing that way. So it IS an amateur telerecording. And the last song of S2E7, "Rhubarb tart", is missing.
