Great news - I have that compilation DVD that was released.
So where does that leave the archive for 'At Last the 1948 Show'?
I'd like to see a list of what whole episodes now exist (either as a whole or as pieced-together whole)
I had a quick look online but couldn't find something that told me exactly what we had.
Can anyone help as I'd be quite interested!
Cheers MJ

The situation was: Series 1: #4, 5 & 6 complete; extracts from #2 & 3 Series 1: #2, 3, 5 & 6 complete; extracts from #1, 4 & 7 Most if not all of the extracts came from the five compilation episodes previously recovered from Sweden. Only S1#1 was fully missing, although there was an audio recording, now superseded by the "new" find, and S2#7 now exists complete.

Missing Episodes - What is Missing? ALT1SThe DVD contains less then half of the material extant. In fact now only 2nd and 3rd episodes from series 1 are really incomplete. Two episodes from series 2 are each missing some 5 or 6 minutes. Previously we had 73%. Now, with the new recoveries, less than 2 episodes' worth of sketches is missing.

To be precise, there were a few clips from S1E1 and on the other hand, S2E5 was missing the end credits, and S2E6 was in very bad shape and was missing one of Aimi's sketches, coming as it was from 3 different sources. End credits for S2E3 uncertain. S2E1 and S2E4 were largely completish, though. You could pass those last 2 off as abridged episodes.

FWIW, a gentleman contributing to the comments section of the Guardian story on this has just mentioned that his father, who was a cinema projectionist in the 1920s, kept a number of silent films, including 'Cleopatra', which Wikipedia tells me is missing. He says his uncle still has them! Worth giving him a shout, mods?... If Cleopatra is found its a major find also. Hopefully someone will follow up.

Cleopatra is one of the key missing silent era films; it would be a major find indeed. I strongly suspect it will be being looked into to see if there is anything to the story Also - amazing news about two whole episodes being recovered! Well done to all involved

Someone on the IMDB claimed to have another one of her films as well. But it could also be the 1912 or 1908 Cleopatra which still exist in some or other version. There is no private message system there, unfortunately.

The BFI's web page on the find says that these were "filmed directly from a television screen", as do several other news pieces which I assume were sourced from the BFI. Is this literally true, or are they telerecordings produced on the proper equipment?
Picture quality from filming a normal TV screen with a normal 16mm camera would, I think, not be great, so I hope this is just a marketing person getting the wrong end of the stick. Can anyone clear this up?

Can anyone clear this up? To me this looks like they finally understood that missing episodes do not come on tape, but on film. During the last Doctor Who craze, almost everyone still spoke about tapes being wiped and returned.

Can anyone clear this up? It's how all telerecordings(aka kinescope) were made (although using a high quality tv/monitor rather than a bog standard one) so shouldn't look any worse than other recordings of the era.

OK-is there anyone here who DIDN'T get episodes of ALT1948S back in the sixties? Hands up,now... Apparently 2 showed up in the late Marty Feldman's attic. Now 2 with Frost. May I suggest murdering John Cleese to see if that brings back S1E2&3? I'm sure he'd agree for easthetical reasons. And it would also solve his divorce problems.
