Ironically the 48 show was found after 47 years Someone really should have said "At last,'At Last the 1948 Show'". And thanks to David Boothroyd for this: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2014/oct/23/lost-episodes-of-at-last-the-1948-show-rediscovered where it's said that they are (a)"almost complete, and (b) the "the first ever shown" and the last episode of the second and last series. From Lost Shows,it seems that the former from 15/2/1967 was the only episode from which nothing was known to survive?

Absolutely terrific news! I'm looking forward to seeing some more news on David Frost's archive, hopefully some other items thought lost may show up.

Excellent. Love this period of entertainment, and there is a great cast in this show.

Presumably David Frost himself didn't know what he had in his own archive ! Does anyone know if it's all been catalogued yet ?

It's reported on the MC that clips were shown on BBC Breakfast this morning. Were these be clips from the recovered shows?
There are a LOT of David Frost's own shows missing,of course...

That explains why I saw dick fiddy at the BFI last Monday. If only I had gone up and talked to him then!
This is quite unexpected as so many had already come back. And first and last episodes were really the most incomplete ones of all, with almost nothing of 1.1 and just 8 minutes of 2.7 from the compilations. Also there was no audio of the start of 2.7. I wonder if this was the source of the 1.1 clips used in a 1976 profile of Cleese.
I believe that 25 years ago there was almost nothing. (Who'd have thought, 30 years ago, we'd be sitting here watching the nearly complete run of At Last The 1948 Show? In them days we were glad to have just an extract on a scratched piece of film...)

A major find and the best possible news to log on and stumble upon in the morning! This effectively means that the bulk of this series now exists (against the odds for a Rediffusion show) so if this latest find doesn't spur the BFI into action in releasing a definitive DVD set of all the existing material (a la Out Of The Unknown), then NOTHING will!!!! Very pleased indeed about this! I wonder what else is in Frostie's archive..?

FWIW, a gentleman contributing to the comments section of the Guardian story on this has just mentioned that his father, who was a cinema projectionist in the 1920s, kept a number of silent films, including 'Cleopatra', which Wikipedia tells me is missing. He says his uncle still has them! Worth giving him a shout, mods?...

I'm pleased to see that the bloke who mentioned the films has been posting there for two years,so there's every reason to believe him.Fingers crossed!
