Fury for mine...
But have a look at that list. Weeks of ripper entertainment with scarcely a missed beat.

For me it was a very tough choice between The Abominable Snowmen and Fury from the Deep, but I ended up choosing The Abominable Snowmen (based on Episode 2 and recons). I love the exotic setting and Padmasambhava is creepy as hell. The Yeti were a good disguise for the intelligence in Tibet, but in London it makes no logical sense at all. The Web of Fear, even before its recovery, always seemed a bit gimmicky to me, but The Abominable Snowmen is a great piece of television with a great setting, great actors and a great, believable story. I would love to see more of it one day. I don't think Web was any more gimmicky than many other stories (even Evil or Tomb for that matter) but I completely agree that Abominable Snowmen is one of those in the "must recover please" category. I'm not at all sure that I can claim to remember seeing it on telly and my appreciation is based on my Target novel with its wonderful first print cover. What a double bill DVD the yeti stories would be!

Not surprised there are no votes for Ice Warriors as yet. It may be an iconic story in that it is the introduction of the green men from Mars. But I used to love reading the Target novels as & when they were released, and this one still stands out in my mind many years later as one I found somewhat dull. Can't say that eventually watching the actual programme (what's left of it) did much to improve on that perception.

My favourite season, closely followed by autumn.
Love the Yeti and the Great Intelligence and they rightly dominate an excellent line up of stories. How did things go so badly wrong behind the scenes with S6 so soon after the peaks of S5? That's worth a thread in itself.
Tomb and Enemy were both revelations when I finally got to see them, Enemy being far, far better than the dull story I had thought was best avoided, even as a Target novel. The whole Cybermen thing, emerging from their cells in Tomb - still utterly brilliant, take a bow Morris Barry, I forgive Toberman and those strings.
Fury sounds amazing on my CD of the soundtrack, the pulsing heartbeat of the weed and the ratcheting tension on the rigs base are magnificent. Who knows what it would look like? Hopefully a revelation like Tomb and Enemy. I'd happily watch an animation of Fury.
In Wheel, the Cybermen are truly evil and the deaths they mete out are genuinely nasty. Must have kept the censors twitchy, back in the day. I like the science fiction and space elements of the story but it is a bit too slow paced.
Ice Warriors is a great story but I still find the Warriors with their mismatched bodies and heads too comical looking. If that sounds harsh, I can't pick all the stories as my favourite so a bit of nit picking is required.
Web is the natural choice because it is still amazing that most of it is on a DVD on my book case but Abominable was my favourite Target novel and Troughton my favourite Doctor so it's my favourite S5 story. The Tibetan setting, time period, Travers, Monks, Yeti and Tardis crew are all so perfect together.

I remember seeing colourised footage of EP 2 somewhere and it also look fantastic! I was in the "no colourisation" group til i saw TAS footage.

Season 5 is a terrific season, and it occurs to me that if any of these stories were in any other season, they'd almost certainly be front runners for best of that season. It's just an embarrassment of riches, really... And yet Day of the Doctor is the best story ever? - Buries head in hands, pulls open drawer, reaches for bottle of malt and loaded service revolver....... but looks up at bookcase and spies Web DVD, downs glass of malt and watches Web for 117th time.

The Enemy of the World has been a favourite of mine since I heard the audio recording, and was great since the pictures came back too.
If Fury is ever returned I could change my vote, but Troughton is so good in Enemy.

Great season, was always brilliant when we had no episodes to watch. The two scariest dw stories ever were WOF and FFTD according to my sisters who watched them. Recovering IW and TOTC showed great bits but I felt ultimately showed them not to be great stories, whilst WOF was the target book that hooked me to DW. EOTW and WOF are excellent and as audio so are WIS and FFTD. Padmasambhva's voice is truly the best voice in DW history. This season is rich pickings. which one did I go for? FFTD

Padmasambhva's voice is truly the best voice in DW history. I think that Sutehk wins the best voice!

Like all here, Im just in awe of this season.. Many timss when a story is missing people tend to romaticize it as better than it is. Not so with season 5. Once web and enemy were returned, they simply built in prestige. I am still in amazement at how the best season in dr who history has become recovered and is viewed in even better pretege than ever. My vote had to be for web, but tomb/enemy were close seconds. LIke others, i was disappointed with ice warriors. Iconic monsters, yet sadly I never viewed any of their stories as classics. Perhaps it the two episdoes where victoria is beint terrorzed show up, it might help the story. Fury is hard for me to critique because of so little existing, yet based on the recon, it didnt impress me. The new recon of wheel breathed a lot of life into it thanks to the cgi, but if one is looking for the best cyberman story, it still cant beat tomb or moonbase. SEason 5- just simply the stuff dreams are made of

Have to wonder how this poll would have gone before the recovery of EOTW and WOF. I think we might have had a few more votes go to Tomb or IW since they had a more substantial existence prior to the recovery and maybe not as many towards EOTW. Definitely think WOF would have still been top contender though.

I think web would have still been a high favorite. Enemy might not have done as good. Its possible tomb would have had the no 2 spot. Im curious what will happen if fury is found. Can it keep its reputation is the question. But even if it didnt, I would still be overjoyed to have an anazing story back.
