In Moffat’s favour though is that he’s bringing rather a lot more to the table than the last multi-Doctor casting, long-running producer. And he’s doing things in a more varied way, and rather better with it for the most part, each year he’s staying on. That mitigates a bit against his risk from being there “too long”, I’d say. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one then, Paul. He's had more than his time and should now move on. As per Matt, Laurence! Thanks for leading by example here too, this is a nice place to shoot the breeze!

Well, it's certainly less vitriolic than a number of dedicated Doctor who forums of my experience (two of which I've parted company with fairly recently because I just found all the OTT new series hatred rather alarming and quite depressing).

Yep, we've got a sort of Casual Nexus going on here! So here's the preview for this year's Christmas ep - what do we all think? www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsxEenCBRG0Thanks BBC for the speedy up for those of us in other times and places, hankering for more of the Capaldi era! Don't forget to remember what it's for, donate to Children In Need if you possibly can, even if it's only small change!

Moffat once again is exploring those popular myths and everyday cultural givens but adding a little shake and twist, just like he did with the Series 8 finale (nice pop shots at both conventional fears of dying and more modern impulses like cryonics, I thought) and Listen (with unseen terrors). Can't imagine it's really Santa, of course. But it'd be a heck of a kick if it turns out the Doctor is wrong, and that fat bloke with the sleigh and elves is actually Santa, having somehow leaked out of the Land Of Fiction to cause havoc!

That would be a better storyline that what we will get i think.... i like nthan Mcmullen too but i thought the opposite, the dialogue was a bit "tryhard-y".. HOWEVER, i will wait to see what the plot is and the show before making my mind up.

If this is any indication, looks like a pretty nice welcome for Peter Capaldi's 1st series and yes, Moffat's 4th as show runner: www.doctorwhonews.net/2014/11/series-8-overview.htmlI'd have thought it might have dropped a little but nope, seems to be holding to the same sort of figures we've seen for a few years now. That's encouraging! Now, let's see if we can build on them...

A couple of nice little tidbits re Series 8 and the Christmas special: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K43EfeIExTA&feature=youtu.bewww.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/The-Doctor-and-Clara-face-their-Last-ChristmasGiven Moffat's comments in the first link, I'm leaning toward the "Land Of Fiction" or equivalent to explain Santa. Come to think of it, Robot Of Sherwood might be proof of more leakage from the same place... Is it an accident that the Mistress is dressing like Mary Poppins? I dunno...but if the sort of unreal physics seen in the Toons of Roger Rabbit is analogous, it could make her very easily essentially unkillable as the rules of the real universe no longer apply to her. Gallifrey's in another universe now. If not the Land Of Fiction, perhaps Missy cut through it to get here? Now if my post in the Quiet 51st Anniversary thread re The Goon Show kinda sorta predicting Doctor Who and its date of broadcast five years early as the punchline to The Silent Bugler were to get tied in, perhaps in an upcoming ep the Doctor might be temporarily fictionalised into order to fix things or as a trap laid for him to get him out of the way. If so, this could be a lot of clever meta-textual fun and games and plenty of silly laughs to boot. Maybe increase Goon Show sales, too! Heck, Steven Moffat might say he was born in 1961, but if he thought he could shake out another BAFTA/Hugo/Emmy by co-opting Messrs Milligan, Secombe and Sellers into a transtemporal series arc, he might not be above endangering the universe with a causality loop in the furtherance of narrative! Somewhere in the 49th century or thereabouts, one of their time capsules might be missing...
