Bigger is not better though David... rumour wise it just gets everyones hopes and expectations up to be cruelly dashed. I have just had a txt message naming stories through on my mobile... Not from the source I mentioned before but it shows how quickly things are spreading... The worry is we are all going to be left with the "I told you so-ers" sniggering behind their hands. As i previosly said, let's wait and see. If something does hooray, if not, at least I can listen to missing episodes of my show and know that what I can see will be of beautiful quality. There's no longer a way out of it: We're going to be left with "I told you so-ers". Someone will be vindicated and someone will be humiliated. :/

There may be negotiations under way - which may or may not pay dividends. There may be whereabouts known - or suspected - which, again, may or may not pay dividends. Paul's said he doesn't tell lies.

I remember all this frenzy with the Web of Fear "discovery" a few years back - same conversations being had then as are being had now. And they say people don't learn anything from history... So I think I will just sit back and let the future reveal what it will - as it will.

If that worked we'd have 10 copies of Web back in the archive by now just on the basis of my will-power alone.

The mention of Tenth Planet ep 4 being 'secretly' included on the 'Regenerations' Box set makes me at once suspicious of all this.
The truth is, if Tenth Planet episode 4 was discovered it would be a major event and its discovery would be unveiled at a BFI screening with a panel of guests who participated in the episode.
Anyway, I guess once the 'Regenerations' box set is out we'll get to the bottom of this either way!

I'm honestly kinda doubtful that 60-70 year old former BBC engineers spend their days on the internet lurking in Doctor Who online forums. I just do. They're busy looking at pictures of their grandkids on Facebook or something. Stereotype. I know of plenty of 60 and 70 year olds who use the internet on a regular basis and know what a forum or message board is. Though to be fair I know plenty of 60 to 70 year old who don't even know how to hold a mouse. Maybe that was a slight exaggeration about how senior citizens use the internet. But the fact of the matter is that if more of these theoretical BBC engineers knew that were aware of people were searching for what they may or may not have, more things might turn up.

io9 is an amalgamation of dozens of amaturish and professional writers (which I hope one day to be a part of honestly). They've posted articles that have been proven incorrect before. io9 is just reporting on the rumor because Bleeding Cool has and it's become a voracious subject of debate in our community. But as you mention, they have a HUGE following. io9 is more of a Geek News website that has many followers. This has reached a new level of awareness that's going to quickly get out of hand. Which should show posters here on how much of a deal Rich Johnson and Bleeding Cool as the source of the story is. I think that if Rich didn't have some kind of source involved on the Beeb's side of things, he probably wouldn't have posted anything about it. That's how he works.

Come November when nothing turns up Rich Johnston won't be reminding people and if some one calls him on it he'll just say his "source" got some bad intel. We'll be onto the next rumor by then.

I think more often then not he goes for a big hit baiting headline and uses whatever "info" he can to justify it. Lot of them turn out to be true (and he has good sources in the comic community) but Bleeding Cool's track record in tv and film is spotty at best. They tend to piggy back on scoops from other websites and a fair amount of conjecture on their part (which sometimes end up true and sometimes not).

On the other hand, I'm sure he used at least source for the story that he mentioned from someone close to the situation on the Beeb's side of things . Speculation of missing Doctor Who episodes is not his standard fare. And he seems to leave the entertainment stuff to Brendon Connelly or others on the site for the most part. That includes covering Doctor Who.
