Though I'd start afresh on this as it is currently getting lost with the Aztecs. The Galaxy 4 recon is, in my opinion - Stunning, best recon on DVD so far, it closely matches my memories of watching this story. Even the final moments in the Tardis leading into Mission to the Unknown match my memories (see thread on Earliest Memories). Slight quibbles - I recall the ground around the Tardis being lighter, almost white. At the time I was disappointed with this story as it looked cheap and obviously very studio bound. The floor/planet surface was unnaturally flat obviously to allow the Chumblies to move. This reconstruction has actually made me re-evaluate this story in that it looks very much better than I remembered! Other quibble is that in the last episode I can recall seeing the travelers running from the Rill space craft to the Tardis with the camera keep shuddering , white smoke drifting around and when the Rill Spacecraft exploded we saw the sky and a sudden flash. Quibbles. This is a first class recon and that very closely matches the original broadcast. I urge all fans to buy it for this story alone. The bonus features are all excellent as well although, if it existed, the Blue Peter feature on the Chumblies would have been nice as it featured Angelo Muscat (later in the Prisoner). Biggest memory shock was clearly seeing 4 Rills!!! Now that I had forgotten. ) I have yet to watch the Aztecs (always a great story)

I have just watched it and I agree, it is very good. Virtually the whole of episode one is re-created with the existing clips and the CGI work on the Chumblies is also very good. I thought the TARDIS looked a bit odd being rather more squat than ususal, The use of composite images illustrates very well the required scenes. 'Airlock' itself was a joy to see at last. It is so rare for us to get 'new' episodes it is a real treat to see this at last. Yes it is worth buying this DVD set!

I watched it yesterday and have to say it was extremely refreshing watching footage I’ve never seen before.
Also the Aztecs looks great!
Thanks again to Terry for allowing us to enjoy this episode again and great work from the restoration guys.
Can’t wait to see the Underwater Menace episode!!

Got mine from Amazon a little later than promised...but well worth waiting for,,,I havent watched Aztecs yet, Im not a fan of historic episodes anyway, I bought this purely for Galaxy4 and I have to say, I agree with everything everyone else has said. I agree about the stunted Tardis, but who cares, I dont care if half the footage is lost, the telesnaps, the off air clips, the photos etc, were all seamlessly pieced together, so that we have got a collection of everything that exists. Lets hope this happens as an extra with episode 4 of Tenth Planet. The new episode isnt a particularly strong episode and doesnt stand out as Who at its best, but its still great to see it and enjoy after all this time. Im very pleased with this release. We can only dream that maybe the Beeb are sitting on something recently found for a mega announcement nearer November,that would be wonderfull, but if they are, if its as well reconstructed and put together as this, then it will be worth celebrating. Im more of a Troughton fan than a Hartnell and Im seriously anitcipating that episode that seems to be taking forever.

It is fantastic. I guess, rather luckily, not only do we have 5 minutes from episode 1 but we also have episode 3 completely. This gives us 30 minutes of 'real' footage and a 'monster' that is perfectly shaped for CGI recreation - in short, it's the perfect story for a reconstruction. The cut down is superbly done. It keeps the pace, the composites are excellent and the existing footage rolls in effortlessly. I now feel like I have 'watched' Galaxy 4. It's that good. So good in fact, that Disc two of The Aztecs SE now lives somewhere else.. i.imgur.com/h4myREK.jpg[EDIT: Removed image embed as it's huge!}

I watched this earlier today. It was certainly enjoyable and the reconstruction was well done.
Out of interest, where are UK buyers obtaining their copies from? I was very used to getting them a couple of days early through Play but now that they no longer hold stock of their own, I'm getting them late. I know it's only a matter of a few days but I'm actually quite envious of those people who seem to still be getting them early or on the day of release. Is anyone able to suggest the best place to get them from on time?

Used to order from Play.Com but theyve gone downhill dreadfully and discs could take 4-5 days to arrive. Ordered from Amazon, first class mail, and that turned up late too,,,so will try BBC Shop.

Play took ages with my copies of Shada and Reign of Terror so decided to try elsewhere. I avoided amazon as my friend said he waited nearly a week for new releases despite paying for next day delivery. Went onto ASDA direct for Ark in Space and Aztecs, both £12.97 and Ark came two days after orderign and Aztecs arrived on Monday, so I'd recommend them.

Watched it last night. I think it's the second best recon I've ever seen. The BEST being the Daleks Masterplan epic.
I do wish there was a way to see a full re-con of the whole soundtrack. Guess what I will do is track down a fan recon of 1, 2, and 4.
The recon really served this story well.
Sadly, my overall rating of this story hasn't spiked. But the existing episode LOOKS a lot better than I was expecting. Well directed and realised.
