Posted this on another forum, and now here too -
With the Crusades, seeing episode 1 was a revelation. It took a story that I never thought much about, and put it very high toward those stories I'd love to see recovered in full, or at least see an animation of.
Before the Crusades was always "Ohh...umm...yeah, that's right, episode 3 of that exists, but it's not terribly good if I recall. Maybe the other episodes are better?"
To "OH MY! I didn't expect that! Let me watch a recon of this...DAMN! Why doesn't episode 4 exist too??! That would rock!"
With Day of Armageddon, it was also the trigger for me to watch the fan recon. Before the Daleks Masterplan had been this murky, mysterious, mega epic thing which I imagined would probably be boring and hard to get into. I'd seen lots of other recons, and been fairly happy with them -- but when Celation walked into the room in episode 2, it was a massive shift for me. The actor makes one of the grandest and most surreal entrances in the history of Doctor Who. You could reconstruct and reimagine that episode all you like -- but you would never ever know or get across that performance without having the existing episode. In a weird way it took up until that moment for it to dawn on me exactly how much is lost. The telesnaps, the audio, the recons, made me feel pretty comfortable about the stories, and that I knew them well. But an actor walking into a set, totally blew apart my cozy complacency. Even more from that moment on, I've tried to imagine what the actors were doing. How they might have tried to bring some life into their characters or the scene. It's impossible to know sadly, but I'm more accutely aware of it's absence.

I picked up my copy today, and I must say, I was impressed with the recon very much! Episode 3 was very good too. Having heard the audio first, like possibly everyone here, I have to say that it really was a lot of fun seeing everything come together. For those interested, I've once again toyed with taking tele-snaps of un-snapped episodes, and I've just released these for people to get an idea of Galaxy 4's atmosphere: vgretro.deviantart.com/art/Galaxy-4-Part-3-Tele-Snaps-359498002?ga_submit_new=10%253A1363297228These are mainly for people who cannot afford the DVD, and those where it's currently unavailable, to see what they will get when they eventually manage to get the DVDs. I'd only watched this once before taking them, so it seemed much easier to do than the other ones I've done.

Great work Mike! Looks fantastic as always.
Someone mentioned the DMP recon on here, does anyone else think you could make a brilliant Marco/Galaxy4 style recon of this story? Rather than an hour maybe make it a six parter - using the three remaining episodes with some linking material between the episodes we have and recreating large parts of episode 1/12. I think it'd work we'll, it's just a case of working out what to cut!

Fabulous recon. About the best. And I think the story is excellent Sci-Fi.
The animated Chumblies really give this story an extra boost and makes the whole piece quite easy and enjoyable to watch. I like this animation much better than the animation used for "The Invasion" and "Reign of Terror." Because it is done in such a way as to capture the look and feel of the original but it doesn't look stiff. Even little animated scenes like when the Doctor uses his walking stick to tap a Chumbly fit right in. The superimposed images over the animated backdrops are also perfect. Highly recommended for any Dr Who collector.

Got my copy today, all I can say about this is wow!! Loved it!!! I've said it before, but I never fail to be impressed by the work that the "restoration team" does!! Might even get round to re-visiting The Aztecs... Eventually lol Though I suspect that won't be until the entire range is (finally) released, and I watch (what's left of it anyway) the entire run in order.....
So... Any news on when/how The Underwater Menace gets released yet? Hope it's not gonna be another 18 months waiting lol... Which in comparison to 40 odd years isn't much really, but as we can virtually taste it, it makes the waiting almost intolerable!

Fabulous recon. About the best. And I think the story is excellent Sci-Fi. I think it's a fabulous piece of pulp SF for sure! The Reign of Terror animation was so jumpy and badly edited, I literally got a headache trying to watch it. Pulled me completely out of the story.

I'll need to go back and watch it very carefully. I totally forgot the last few seconds were missing. The reconstruction was entirely convincing.

The Reign of Terror animation was so jumpy and badly edited, I literally got a headache trying to watch it. Pulled me completely out of the story. That definitely was tough on the eyes trying to keep track of all the different shots and camera angles. I just watched the animated episodes and I needed headache pills when episode 5 was over. I hope episode 4 of The Tenth Planet isn't like that.

Perhaps I'm getting old and sentimental, but --
One thing though -- did they just leave that Chumblie to die???
I mean, maybe the Chumblies aren't sentient or whatever. But it seems a bit horrid that they get an protected escort back to the TARDIS and don't even take the Chumblie with them. They just leave it to get blown up.

The Chumbley with you will escort you back to your ship. He will protect you and obey your commands. Once you have gone he will destroy himself."

That recon on the DVD had me imagining that Chumblie just sitting there like a hapless sod waiting for the planet to blow up. The Chumblies are sort of a proto- R2D2. Anyway, as long as they didn't just say "thanks for getting us to the TARDIS, now knackers to you buddy boy." I'm fine with it. (I was going to dig up my Target Novelization over this! So thanks!) Cheers!

Feel even better after reading the script!!!
CHUMBLEY: Very well. In a moment we shall leave here and enter the ship. From that time we will not be able to talk with you. The Chumbley with you will escort you back to your ship. He will protect you and obey your commands. Once you have gone he will destroy himself.
VICKI: No!
CHUMBLEY: It will be painless. Merely putting itself out of action.
THE DOCTOR: Yes, I think I understand, and thank you very much.
Well at least Vicki echo'd my sentiments!

Yep, I think there's even more in the script about Vicki getting upset that was completely cut. The recon really is superb though. I think it works so well because we have the footage from episode one and an entire episode. I'm praying episode 12 of DMP is out there and can be returned, you could make a strong DMP recon in this style if we had that..
