Is "Aztecs" out yet in Australia? Sorry, off topic, I mean is "Galaxy 4" out yet? Yes, I got mine on Tuesday.. Was due for release yesterday (20th march) I get mine through my local ABC shop at Dymocks booksellers, so I tend to get mine a day or so before they go on the shelf... That's if I remember to pre-order them, that is lol...

Now that Airlock has been released as part of the recon of Galaxy 4,the overall story isn't considered to be anything outstanding by DWM.How things change once missing episodes are recovered! I remember 15 years ago when Jan Vincent-Rudski's donated clip from Whose Dr Who was being written about and included in the Ice Warriors Collection,DWM gushed that it 'ran for a length of 6 minutes-that's almost a quarter of the first episode!'. Talking of Whose Dr Who,I remember very clearly the original transmission, the day (it was a Sunday) and even what the weather was like outside ( it was cloudy at about 8 o'clock and my brother-in-laws were round)! My fascination for B & W Dr Who and it's missing episodes originated from there, especially the clips of The Web Planet and The Space Museum which were included.Later on when DW Monthly wrote about the archives,I remembered this programme and those wonderful clips. Also,Dr Who was a POPULAR programme in the 70s-even though now my brother-in-laws ridicule me about my obsession with Dr Who,although they are a few years older than me,I remember them being really excited when Whose Dr Who was aired and they were totally rivetted by it!

I thought Airlock was a pretty good episode. The Chumblies aren't obviously actors in costumes, they actually do look and sound like robots. By the standards of the time, that's excellent!

Set design on Airlock is very unusual-minimal yet interesting. The scene of Marga shooting the dying Dravin is also quite shocking. All in all,a good episode which I'm sure would have been enhanced by the surrounding episodes if they still existed.

I think we've been lucky with this one. If there had been a deliberate decision to save only one episode of "Galaxy 4", it would have to be between "Airlock" or "Exploding Planet". Both have the Rills, "Airlock" has the dramatic developments and the high viewing numbers, and "Exploding" has the action.

Also it provides a nice juxtaposition to the 6 minutes we have of episode 1, we see the Drahvins and hear their side of the story. Then in episode 3 we see the Rills and hear their side of the story which challanges that of the Drahvins. By now Maaga has betrayed herself as the baddie so we believe the Rills story. Also lots of chumbly action!

I love all of the 60's who but really couldn't get into this at all,i found myself doing things while it was playing, anything to reading junk mail to trawling through ebay on the mobile. I am greatful we got at least one full ep back from it,but wish it had been another story instead

I think because it's an orphan episode it detracts from the overall story.I'm sure if it was complete it would be a whole lot better. But you're right,it is one of the lesser stories visually.

Wouldn't you say this would be the case with all of the orphaned episodes. I'm thinking of you ( The) Space Pirates!

I must be a minority but I love Air Lock and Galaxy 4. Hartnell makes an otherwise dull story come to life.

Sadly we judge a story today by the visuals and we forget the message of this classic story. Dont judge by appearances.. look at the hearts. I wonder if in todays world people relate more to the heartless beautiful dravins or the kind hearted rills?
I agree that having an incomplete story does hurt. I had hoped the recon would have helped. Im wondering if it helped those of us who were more familiar with the story but the condensed version made it harder for first time viewers to appreciate it.
While Im very appreciate the recon was included, I wish they had worked with derek to offer a full recon. Im sure he would have worked with them.

The recon could have been more detailed, but it did leave me with the impression that I'd seen the story. As for the message "don't judge by appearances", it came across well; Maaga is worse than heartless, she hates the Rills simply because they are different from her, and wants them dead even though they offered to save her and her crew. It's quite chilling when you realise this. In the similar Lost In Space "Golden Man" episode, the moral of the story is bungled by the ugly froggish good guy turning into a handsome young man in the final scene. It's just a fairy tale.
