Hi everyone,
Just read the wiped book and it said the bbc technician when recording mind of evil ep1 filltered out the chromas dots which i already knew.
Where their other copies around the world which didnt have the chormas information filtered out or was that same filtered copy sent round the world??
Thanks

Same copy. A negative was made from which any required prints were struck.

There are no chroma dots, therefore no point whatsoever in trying, any more than there would be in processing a Hartnell episode.

Oh I see just wondered I guess it will be colourised frame by frame for dvd?? Unless some colour turns up from somewhere you're probably right. However, I recall that when POD3 was colourised (prior to Colour Recovery being developed) the £-$ exchange rate was somewhat in our favour.

There is no definite information as to how successful, or otherwise, Colour Recovery has been on episodes 2 to 6. I think that a lot of work is probably going on behind the scenes relating to Mind Of Evil and Ambassadors Of Death. Eventually we'll see what they've achieved.

I don't think they would do that I certainly hope that it's not released with Part One in b&w. However, it's probably right at the end of the schedule and a year is a long time for the Doctor !

I am very happy that we get recovery of 2-6 and episode 1 in b/w if thats all they can afford.
Id rather that then all the episodes in b/w.

Legend Films in America were sent a B&W version of 'Planet of the Daleks' 3 to re-colour from scratch and they did a pretty good job. The best results are achieved when their colourisation is combined with the chroma dot recovery, but sadly due to the cost we are unable to do this with all episodes. I wouldn't be surprised if they got Legend Films to re-colourise 'The Mind of Evil' 1, though, as they do a good job on colour recovery from scratch - they'd probably be sent chroma dot recoveries of the other episodes for reference. So, we have the potential to recolourise almost everything (barr 'Mind of Evil' 1) to almost broadcast quality... it's just the cost

I wouldn't be surprised if they got Legend Films to re-colourise 'The Mind of Evil' 1 The problem is that Legend have pretty much priced themselves out of the market now. The cost of colourising an episode now is far, far more expensive than it was when Planet #3 was done. That's why Legend wasn't used to do any work on Invasion of the Dinosaurs #1.

That's interesting as usually the cost of technology comes down.
