OK, I did sound a bit flippant there, but the fact is I said if they had "missing TV" not "missing Who". As it happens I would like to get 70s TOTP back more than anything else, then Who, then Dad's Army.

Ade, if I knew anyone who had missing TV and was about to pop their clogs then as soon as they did so I'd get the material from their collections and return it. If you think that's betraying your mates then so what, they aren't alive to know it. I think that's a very child-like and simplistic view though. Not much of a friend to them if you'd do that either. Some things transcend fan obsessions with grabbing missing prints too, such as honouring confidences and treating people with respect. The hunt for missing TV IS important, yes (we wouldn't be wasting our time on sites like this now if it wasn't) but there are things in life MORE important.

Maybe so but it's a very selfish attitude for these people to take, despite what Ade says above. I kind of see where he is coming from, but I still can't comprehend how anyone would rather their collection got binned than saved. I still reckon it is the wrong attitude to take and if it were in my power to rectify the matter after their death then I wouldn't think twice about doing the right thing and returning *all* the missing stuff. While there are many people who would just want the Who stuff I'm sure most if not all members here would return anything, not just what they are interested in. The "Crossroads" find earlier this year was about as interesting to me as last nights "Eastenders", but if it were me that found it then I'd still have returned it.

but with most missing tv hunters ONLY interested in dr who and NOTHING ELSE. That's a very large and very sweeping generalisation, Ade. It's also very untrue. Richard Indeed. And Ade - perhaps you could dial down the needlessly aggressive tone in your posts? Name calling and telling people to get a life is not even slightly helpful. Cheers Stuart

So, anyway. Would anyone in the know like to offer their 'reckoning' on wether the BBC would rather release something on DVD as an 'all profits to charity release' or never have it returned to the archives.
Anyone?

off the top of my head, the bbc would rather have the money and the sort of people that hoard don't care about the poor, but perhaps I'm being too synical

Well let's hear from the BBC? Or perhaps they simply don't need to reply.
Who in their right mind would give anything to the BBC just to feed more money to the multi-millionaires.
I just don't get this thread.

beesa, havent seen you about before, howdy. The point of the thread was orignally this. If there were a way for some collectors to give back missing material for the world to enjoy and it would be a given that all proceeds would go to charity, rather than swelling the BBCs coffers, would the BBC go for it?
Its just something I was thinking about. I personally think they would entertain the idea of some kind of a deal. Just a thought.

Hi.
I can't see the BBC making any sort of deal and they are certainly not a charity.
Perhaps if the research and renovation team of the BBC could be separated from the £mega business and foul mouthed multi-millionaires somehow then I think we would have more chance of finding lost material.
The BBC used to have high standards and provided us with the top drama, top technicians, presenters, producers, directors etc. These days however, it has fallen right into the gutter. Dumbed down to the extreme and providing the impetus for the rest to follow likewise. The BBC has a lot to answer for. Most of us are old enough to remember when the BBC set standards throughout the world for the rest to lead. That ain't rue anymore.
Any method for finding lost material has to be sans BBC. Sorry, but that is how I see it.

Ah, I reckon it must be those guys who come in and rearrange your living room and make you strangle someone over your bathroom then The marco polo DVD sounds like a winning formula though

Ahh, the ol Dr Who Home Makeover Edition, complete with the Marco Polo add on, very nice. Also complete with Tardis tool shed, K-9 post box, Tardis Console Coffee Table with all the trimmings and lights, yeah those guys do a smashing job that is for sure. ;D
Sounds like they are talking about the Doctor Who Restoration Team, sounds like that anyway.
Cheers, Lance.
