Pre-ordered my copy last night. Even though it is an animation, I never thought I would ever see myself order The Power of the Daleks on DVD!
I wonder if the cover art will be made to match in with the other 150+ releases? Or have a reversable cover like Enemy and Web?
But anyway, this is my favourite Doctor Who story, so I'm overjoyed that soon it will be on my DVD shelf!

Many do seem very positive about WOF3 though. I was never in the camp who assumed that it definitely exists somewhere, believing there was a reasonable possibility that the Jos manager destroyed it to cover his crime, and felt it would never be returned in my lifetime. Listening to Phil at Starburst, my gut feel now is that he likely already has it in his possession. Here’s hoping! Phil appears very optimistic and I think that optimism tends to get hopes up. Regrettably I don't think he has it

Remember, this is the same man who thinks TP4 'is out there',a statement that has been ridiculed when ordinary fans have made the exact same statement!

I'm not being negative, just trying to read people and yet be cautious how I word things out of respect for phil. My opinion is that phil likes to make people happy and his comments that come out of that and his optimism I would not twist to think that he has found Web 3. I hope he has, but regardless I'm happy he is optimistic and still looking

I hope he has, but regardless I'm happy he is optimistic and still looking Yes, it could easily be that Phil is simply remaining positive & resolute. However, his comments imply that he at least has a pretty good idea where it is, which is obviously positive not least as it also suggests that it does indeed still exist. I'd guess that if negotiations for its return were at a delicate stage then he would have kept schtum ... so his comments lead me to wonder whether he actually has it in his possession already.

I know, it's fantastic isn't it! Remember when Enemy and Web were the first and second most popular TV downloads on iTunes? It's nice to know that missing episodes of Doctor Who (and even animations) are still very popular!

Hip hip hooray! After 50 years I can see a version of Power. Recently on another thread on this forum I shared my memories of watching Power episode. 1 in 1966 - the shock. The confusion. The sadness - I cried (I was 12). The reaction when I watch the animation is bound to be much, much less. It's a funny old world. I am now 62 and through out my life I've wished for many things to come true. A lot of failures. But a surprising number of successes. A recent example. I used to collect and still have TV Comic with it's Dr Who comic strip. I missed only a few issues especially issue 1 of Troughton's Invasion of the Quarks. A month ago I found it on the Internet. On another thread on this forum a few days ago I was wishing the Animation rumour was true. I say no more. Wishes do sometimes comes true. Now what shall I wish for next... ....

Hopefully this is financially successful enough that BBC Worldwide will see fit to animate Web of Fear 3 and Underwater Menace 1 + 4. Heck they could be extras on an animation of The Abominable Snowman or The Evil of the Daleks if they are ever animated

I'm expecting this to be invasion quality animation.

All of the animations of have been pretty good in my opinion. It did take me one or two viewings of "The French Revolution" and "The Tenth Planet" to get my brain to accept them as animated though

Even if/when the original episodes are discovered,we have something here which is additional-a new programme using the voice-talents of Pat Troughton,et al.I doubt if many fans would ditch the animated DVD because the Real Thing had come along...though I don't know how much demand there'd be for animating surviving shows! What next,I wonder-The Ghosts of N-Space?

Presumably the animated Power will have a further remastering of the audio (by Mark Ayres? ) & will sound even clearer, crisper & more resonant than before!

Just curious: Why did they pick The Power of the Daleks? Yes, it has so much historical significance, but was there any more to it?
I am asking because there have been rumours of its recovery, albeit in bad shape, back from the time that rumours began about The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear. (I had heard that all 3 were found.) From my vantage point, this is a pretty big coincidence. Because of this coincidence, there is a part of me that wonders if it is a variation of a theory I posited in another thread:
Let us assume that they found all 6 canisters of The Power of the Daleks, but the film was in very bad shape. What would you do with it if you were the BBC? Obviously, salvage as much as possible and try to make a release. Now, it is possible that you could have got large bits of the original that were OK and other bits that were beyond repair. So you could have 6 episodes, say, of a blend of a reconstruction or animation paired with actual live pieces.
But if virtually all of it were in bad shape, what would you do? I personally would scour the film for every usable frame and then pay the best animators I can find to use the frames and anything workable from the original to remake them. Do we have any information one way or the other that this is what happened here?

Just curious: Why did they pick The Power of the Daleks? Yes, it has so much historical significance, but was there any more to it? The reason for picking it is obvious. 1. It is one of most in demand stories. 2. Its a great story written by David Whittaker and likely to keep attention of the young than the krotons or space pirates 3. It is one of the least likely stories to be recovered 4. It has daleks or cyber men in it
