The book is by a fan called Dave Hoskins and is about the rumours only. It is not an official release from the BBC or Philip Morris for that matter, and has not been officially authorised or approved by them either. In it, you will find lots of details about the omni-rumour, possibly who made up what parts of it and when, and not much more than that. I don't believe Dave's manuscript has made it into the public domain. Certainly, when I had dinner with him earlier in the week, he wasn't freaking out that the manuscript had leaked to the world. That being that, how could you possible know what Dave is writing about? For a good insight into Dave's approach, and Dave himself, have a listen to this podcast interview from about a year ago. www.hipcast.com/podcast/H1wsZ28sIt's not hard to know what Dave is writing about, just google 'Omnirumour Dave Hoskins' and info about the book (related to the podcast, I presume) comes up from this and other pages- www.reddit.com/r/DWMissingEpisodes/comments/3enbm0/interview_with_author_writing_book_about_doctor/

If it's a book about the rumours itself then fair enough, that's a good enough subject for an interesting and amusing read. So, in other words no real announcement any time soon accompanied by a book by Phil Morris, then? If it was a book written by him then I would heave a huge sigh of relief because I'd know for certain that the truth in terms of the proper facts was incoming!

Many remember where they were when they first heard the Omni-rumour...

In answer to the original question, I can't imagine that there will be any announcement of a mass find in connection with this book. If it outlines the efforts made by Phil Morris then it is probably to draw a line under the searches he has made. That is not to say that nothing new will ever be found again but rather that Phil's searches have not turned up anything other than the NINE.
What I can imagine is the announcement that he did actually find a can with say Toymaker 1 in it (insert any episode), but it was so badly degraded that it could not be retrieved and that he didn't announce that because he didn't want to disappoint. After all, he did delay the announcement of WOF 3 in order not to jeopardise the potential recovery.

A line is not drawn under the search until such time that such a line is drawn ... if and when it is. There has been nothing stated officially one way or the other. What we do know is that a search was indeed made. For that, we can all be grateful. The search led at least to the find of ten missing episodes and the successful recovery of nine of those ten. More may have been located and recovered, but further information has not yet been disclosed. The search has already been a success, but it's just a question of whether the search has been more successful than we yet know. We have been told repeatedly though that the results will eventually be disclosed, and despite a lengthy passage of time, I have no reason to doubt that we will be told.

In it, you will find lots of details about the omni-rumour, possibly who made up what parts of it and when, and not much more than that. There do seem to be a lot of people who will confidently tell you exactly what my book contains. Here's a tip though: if they can't even get my name right, there's a strong possibility they don't know what they're talking about. Chasing Shadows is *not* about the rumours only; quite the reverse, in fact. It *will* contain material and interviews that you won't have read anywhere else. Not sure where this notion of "authorisation" comes from - as far as I know there are loads of good books about Doctor Who that aren't authorised by the BBC, with Wiped! being the first that comes to mind, so the notion that "authorisation" is some kind of prerequisite for quality is a little bizarre. That said, Chasing Shadows' area of interest is larger than Doctor Who in any case - it's about missing television in general (with an obvious bias towards Doctor Who), but if you read the blurb here: obversebooks.co.uk/product/chasing-shadows/ you can get an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. Lastly, I've stated this elsewhere, but it's only fair to mention it here as it would appear this is the first time my book's come up for discussion... as the book's still being written, I don't want to get into a running commentary on what's in, what's out, who I've talked to and so on. I understand why people are keen to find out, but I hope they'll also understand that until the book is finished, it simply wouldn't be fair for me to say "Joe Bloggs is in the book and he's talking about the recovery of Fury From the Deep". There may be all kinds of reasons why I might cut Joe Bloggs out after I make a statement like that, and the mention of Fury would simply cause unnecessary sensation that I don't want to encourage. Far better, in my opinion, to complete the manuscript, make sure the interviewees are happy with the way they're presented (they may have thought better of certain statements, for example, or felt that I've inadvertently misconstrued what they said at some stage in the transcription/editing process - happens all the time, and negotiations then take place to ensure a compromise can be reached), and *then* start announcing what the book definitively contains. For any further reliable news, keep an eye on the Obverse website or their dedicated thread on Gallifrey Base. I promise you won't miss the ballyhoo when there's something of note to announce.

Double drat, so it's not a Phil book but I shall still look forward to learning something (anything!) more about "the" search and it is reassuring that the author, Dave, is doing it in a proper methodical and balanced way. Don't suppose we could suggest a title...something like "Phil 'em in". No? Understandable!

As I said at the time, even if the Omnirumour was true, the restoration process is incredibly long.
If the Restoration Team worked flat out with no breaks and decent quality films, they would have finished probably just a few months ago. Being in any way realistic, it would be 2018 or 2019 before we heard anything.
Temper expectations with reality, pretty much the only thing we can do.

Being in any way realistic, it would be 2018 or 2019 before we heard anything. In reality, that isn't how it would work though. The existing DW material that was released on DVD wasn't all prepared in advance and then released. It was done gradually a few months in advance of when it was required for an upcoming title. Even if all the missing episodes had been located, there would be no reason to expect them to have all gone through complete restoration prior to any announcement being made. If that many episodes were recovered, they'd be released gradually, and restored in that manner as well. Not that any episodes have been worked on since Enemy and Web three years ago.

Only Phil and his team alone would know if any episodes had been worked on since Enemy and Web. No, they really wouldn't. At the Pandorica Convention last year, during the conversation with Dan Collins, Phil informed us that all restoration work will now be done in house ( "the restoration team do the most stunning work im sure you all agree and they are good friends of mine . However due to the scale of the business T.i.e.a do restoration work inhouse with restored materials to exacting standards.") This change of who undertakes the restoration work would appear to have happened since Web of Fear Episode 3 went missing. Phil said the discovery of the 10 Dr. Who episodes found in Jos was shared with a handful of people he trusted, one of whom alerted somebody else who apparently got in touch with the manager of the TV station at Jos, which led to the Web ep.3 film can going walkies. Phil also said that the next announcement would not involve any Dr.Who material but other missing programmes - something which he never gets asked about! I can't see from this how anyone outside of T.i.e.a would know what is going on inside the company in terms of exactly what is being worked on (these non-Who programmes, for example). It's just a shame it wasn't solely T.i.e.a from the beginning to the end. If it had then we would probably never have heard of this 'omni-rumour', since someone who wasn't to be trusted wouldn't know what to start mouthing off about, and Web of Fear 3 wouldn't have gone missing either.

Completely off the wall but... if the radio commentary of the 1966 World Cup Final can turn up after 50 years then why not Power ? Perhaps the 50th anniversary of 1966 can be The Year of Nostalgia. Where there's life, there's hope! Now off to work which brings me back to Earth with a bump and loud wheezing sound...
