Can't people be satisfied with the 9 returned? Much though I love watching Web, it's no substitute for watching Power, Evil, Snowmen, Fury, ..... I want them all back. Richard

Friends, surely this can only mean that the final announcement is on the horizon? - obversebooks.co.uk/product/chasing-shadows/This can't only be a book about a search that culminated in 9 recovered episodes and 1 stolen episode? I mean, I'd read a book about that - it's impressive enough - but we were told last year that the search is winding down, and now this book is coming out??? What else is there left to write about? If this book is going to reveal all, it surely follows that an announcement will come beforehand, to coincide with the books release? With no new series this year and the news about Bill released, there would never be a better time than now for the next batch of discoveries to be given the full spotlight. A now we have this rumour circulating at conventions etc. that the i-tunes releases will begin with the heavy-weight release of "Power of the Daleks", this November! - forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1823267&page=244 If this and the rumour of Peter Cushing's return to Star Wars are both true, then 2016 is going to be a year long remembered by fans of sci-fi! I cannot fathom your reasoning at all. This book being released has absolutely no bearing what so ever on any upcoming announcement. It merely documents the rumours we endured that coincided with the return of EOTW and WoF. We all want the omni-rumour to be true - wouldn't it be wonderful if it was - even partially so!? And I personally hold the belief that Phil Morris has found more, but until he has finished his search he isn't going to reveal anything - a stance he's been forced to take with the sad theft of WoF3. I don't believe this book indicates that Phil is ready to show his hand,

Richard,
While you say that "It merely documents the rumours we endured that coincided with the return of EOTW and WoF", those rumours were at least correct about EOTW and WOF, and I believe the source of this (whoever they may be) will be proven to be correct in their knowledge of a lot more to come, including Marco Polo.

We are in danger of turning into Gollums and perhaps Phil Morris already has but one day the fellowship of the Ring will take possession of our precious prints.... Being a child of the 60s I am a realist whilst looking to the stars (or expecting International Rescue to turn up when the chips are down) so... I find it very unlikely that two complete stories (albeit one episode disappeared) were discovered and absolutely nothing else from any other story...not even one orphaned episode. A book about the search could do with a publicity boost and what better than "something" fresh to reveal to the Dr Who family to encourage us to get more details about our preci... sorry, I mean missing episodes? This book may very well be Phil Morris's sign-off on the search which I'm sure has an end date even for such an adventurer - he would hardly use a book to encourage further searching and endanger any ongoing hunt..? November 2016 is the 50th anniversary of Patrick Troughton appearing as the Doctor .... as well as being the magic month in Dr Who TV history. I wonder....?

Oh please be true but the pessimist in me says if and only if there is to a statement at any time nothing at all is obvious. It could also say, sorry folks there is no more Who. The cupboard is bare and we no cos we have looked in every last one. Even if there are more episodes when would we see them? Is anyone left to put them on DVD? At 62 my life is not getting any longer. Sorry to be a party pooper

Supposedly Mr Morris shipped back 3 (or 4, can't remember, pick a number) tons of film cans. So until Mr Morris comes clean on what he recovered there'll always be rumours. What do we know so far? 11 Dr Who episodes. A Basil Brush episode. An episode of The Sky At Night. A mouldy Morecambe & Wise. What does that lot weigh so far?

Ive given up getting excited about this or caring much after all this time. Logically there has to be a cut off point otherwise we're all going to pushing up the daisies before anything is ever announced. Its a mystery to me why blocks of material couldnt be announced, ( assuming the material exists of course) to keep the interest up.

"This book may very well be Phil Morris's sign-off on the search"
That's a good way of putting it John, which was what inspired me to start this thread.
As I said at the start of this thread, I'm absolutely certain that if this 'omin-rumour' was merely a rumour it would have been something more believable, like an odd episode or a complete story - not 90 episodes. That is just ridiculously unbelievable; especially if a rumour so ridiculous can't be backed up by some concrete evidence that the first 2 incoming stories are EOTW and WOF ;-)

At 62 my life is not getting any longer. Sorry to be a party pooper If it's 90 episodes, an announcement of the lot was not going to happen back in 2013, or next week for that matter, due to the logistics of handling such an amount of material. We did get something amazing for the 50th anniversary anyway. It must have been a hell of a job getting all that ready in time. But with so much work of varying degrees on the outstanding episodes to do, I wouldn't think an announcement would be any time soon. But this book - when it's finally out - gives me a glimmer of hope either way.

There have been claims in the past about hunters going through piles of films looking only for Doctor Who,and ignoring anything else they might encounter, missing or not. If someone came to me and said "I've been to a hundred 'n' 'leven countries, searched through fifteen thousand dusty cans of film...and I've found some Who!" I'd be sorta interested in what else he must, surely have seen as well. Not even upgrades of any non-Who shows? Really? Nothin' 'cept a Basil Brush? Really? It's possible,I suppose...but you'd have to be bloody unlucky.Or lucky, depending on your point of view. Put it another way.You great-uncle has amassed 26,000 TV shows over a lifetime. You ask him if he's got any comedy or drama, any documentaries or pop shows from the 60s,or even-rare hope!-some Doctor Who.Nine years later,he comes back to you."Didn't have ANY of those other things, but I've got some Who".

The book is by a fan called Dave Hoskin and is about the rumours only. It is not an official release from the BBC or Philip Morris for that matter, and has not been officially authorised or approved by them either. In it, you will find lots of details about the omni-rumour, possibly who made up what parts of it and when, and not much more than that I don't think. It's certainly not the book Philip Morris once said he'd be writing at some point!

I agree with John Green. Much as I want all 96 who episodes to be found I personally would also like to see recovered:- Triton, The Big Pull, The Monsters and missing episodes from:- Adam Adamant, Doomwatch, The Long Way Home, and many others. I expect any announcement would mention probably Doctor Who, May be Adam Adamant but unlikely the rest. And as I've said before ANY announcement is in many ways pointless unless it includes some indication of in what format anything recovered might be made available to the public. Underwater Menace... at least we did finally get a DVD.

I don't believe Dave's manuscript has made it into the public domain. Certainly, when I had dinner with him earlier in the week, he wasn't freaking out that the manuscript had leaked to the world. That being that, how could you possible know what Dave is writing about? For a good insight into Dave's approach, and Dave himself, have a listen to this podcast interview from about a year ago. www.hipcast.com/podcast/H1wsZ28s
