Muriel Young seems to have made an enormous contribution to the history of ITV, from 1955 to 1986. I think she began as an actress, then A-R announcer, television presenter and producer. Was she ever a Director too? Did she ever appear on the BBC. Enough from me, I would like to hear from as many Forum members and guests, your memory of any series and shows Muriel was involved in, in front of and behind the camera please. Hoping for a few surprises.

Certainly helps Alan, thank you for setting the ball rolling. Your mention of Lucky Dip, Five 'o' Clock Club, Tuesday Rendezvous and Five 'o' Clock Funfair, would these have been transmitted when reel to reel recorders were around, giving the possibility that audio from these shows exist, perhaps some-one has some, not to share, but it would be good to know some sound of these shows exist. Clapperboard is a surprise for me, that Muriel was involved in that!

You can see her in action as a TV presenter in the film "dentist in the chair" or was it "on the job"? anyway one of those films.

many thanks to Peter and Laurence for above, both a surprise for me. Must see those 3 films! quote 1 "Muriel worked as a news presenter and interviewer on Granada's People And Places in the north and Southern Television's Day By Day from Southampton." Would anyone have any idea when this would have been, I'm guessing at 1967, could have been earlier or slightly later? Does anyone know if any footage from either programme exists, either in the archive or outside it? quote 2 COUNTDOWN a Southern Television Production, 25 minutes episodes, directed by Mike Mansfield. Host Muriel Young. Shown also by Anglia, ATV London and Rediffusion. A pilot was shown 2/4/66 and a further 12 episodes were tx October - December 1966. Among the cast for 22/10/66 were Cleo Laine, Herman's Hermits, The Searchers, Peter Murray. 28/10/66 Manfred Mann, Alan Freeman, Cat Stevens. 11/11/66 Sandie Shaw, Chris Farlowe, Jonathan King, The Troggs. 18/11/66 Spencer Davis, David And Jonathan, Paul And Barry Ryan. But what kind of show was Countdown, similar to Whole Scene Going, or different? Lostshows.com says all 13 episodes are currently Missing. Would a clip exist anywhere outside the archive? Perhaps Ian Wegg or Ray or another can tell us more please.

Also known to exist is the Rediffusion Christmas play send up of itself called 'Deep and Crisp and Stolen' from Christmas time 1964. quite a lot here... www.imdb.com/name/nm0949908/reference

If it's the same lady (as seems very likely) she's even mentioned in the linear notes to The Beatles first 1963 LP; 'Please Please Me' by Tony Barrow as introducing The Fab Four in the Radio Luxembourg 'EMI Friday Spectacular' where Tony states;
'Presenter Muriel Young began by reading out their names to the audience....'

Peter you are not usually wide of the mark, so Countdown probably was a quiz show, and it adds yet another string to Muriel's bow in the type of show she appeared in! Great news that Deep And Crisp And Stolen exists, what do we have to do, to get this released, when you look at the fabulous cast involved in it!
